For the 2025 holiday season, ornament styling leaned toward bigger focal pieces, personal collections, expressive color and tactile materials—but there was no single dominant look. These eight directions bring together seasonal guidance, designer observations, a professional trade-fair outlook and examples of products released by Hallmark. They are an editorial guide, not a ranked list: the sources do not establish market-wide sales, popularity or household adoption.
What were the Christmas ornament trends for 2025?
The clearest choice is between different moods and priorities: warm neutrals or jewel tones; a few oversized pieces or a densely layered tree; and personal heirlooms or fan-focused keepsakes. Natural, reusable and upcycled materials, lively craft details, and ornaments with light, sound or movement added other ways to make a tree feel individual.
The American Christmas Tree Association’s seasonal guide describes scale, bows, earthy finishes, material choices and nostalgia. Designers interviewed by ELLE Decor discuss collected, maximalist and asymmetrical arrangements. Messe Frankfurt’s Christmasworld Trends 25+ is a professional design outlook, while Hallmark’s announcements document products its company released—not how they performed across the market.
How do you choose a trend that suits your tree?
Start with the room and the tree rather than trying to combine every direction. As an editorial approach, choose one dominant palette, decide whether scale or personal meaning will be the focal point, then add a contrasting texture or one playful element.

When choosing ornaments, consider how they look, how they will be handled and whether you want pieces to reuse from year to year. The cited sources do not provide comparative durability tests or lifecycle analyses, so a natural or recycled material should not automatically be treated as proven to have a lower overall environmental impact.
Which ornament styles stood out in 2025?
1. Oversized baubles and statement bows
The American Christmas Tree Association describes a season of scale: oversized baubles, giant bows and prominent metallic finishes. Its examples span retro glass, bold-color artisanal baubles, wood, clay and recycled glass, with jewel tones among the suggested colors. Large velvet or satin bows can top the tree, while ribbon woven through the branches carries the look downward. For a less uniform arrangement, ELLE Decor’s designer interviews describe mixing large and small ornaments and letting them cascade asymmetrically to one side.
You can use the idea selectively: one large bow or a small cluster of baubles creates a focal point without filling every branch. An all-over treatment makes more sense when the tree has enough space and branch structure to carry the visual weight.

2. Warm neutrals and earthy finishes
Brown, bronze, soft gold and other earthy tones offered a quieter alternative to saturated color. The association points to muted matte or metallic finishes, wood and woven textures, and neutral garlands or ribbons. This palette can make a tree feel warm and understated; consider how it will sit alongside the room’s existing colors before adding brighter accents.
3. Natural, reusable and upcycled materials
Pinecones, dried oranges, foraged greenery, wood, fabric, recycled glass and repurposed decorations bring natural texture and a handmade quality. Christmasworld’s trade outlook also foregrounded craft, recycled and reusable materials, and zero-waste design as aspirations. Trend expert Annetta Palmisano described its guiding idea as being “responsible and connected in your dealings with nature and optimistic about the future,” linking that outlook with “handcrafted techniques and new material creations.” These are design priorities, not proof of the environmental impact of any particular ornament.
4. Nostalgic vintage and heirloom collections
Traditional reds and greens, warm gold, vintage-style pieces, snow globes and family keepsakes all fit a memory-led tree. Designers quoted by ELLE Decor encouraged combining collected decorations, family mementos, vintage finds and new ornaments rather than relying on one perfectly matched set. Children’s handmade keepsakes can sit alongside older family pieces, giving the display a personal history as well as a consistent palette.

5. Maximalist layering and asymmetry
Collected ornaments, mixed sizes and intentionally uneven placement make a tree feel expressive rather than carefully uniform. ELLE Decor quotes designer Manuella Moreira describing how “a collection of large and small ornaments cascading down one side of the tree creates movement and makes the tree itself a conversation piece.” Jonathan Adler likewise said, “Holidays are not a time to hold back, the more the better,” and called his approach a “luxe, layered look that is, above all, personal.” That does not require filling every branch: a few contrasting pieces can create movement on a simpler tree too.
6. Jewel tones and rich color
Deep purple, crimson and fuchsia provide a saturated alternative to warm neutrals. The association also highlights jewel tones with metallic finishes, and ELLE Decor reports designer Tyler Francis describing requests for those rich colors and abundant arrangements. Neutrals and jewel tones are parallel options, not evidence that one displaced the other. Choose based on the existing room palette and whether you want the tree to blend in or draw attention.
7. Playful craft, lively glass and material mixing
Christmasworld’s “ease” direction treats festive decoration as sparkling, cheerful and playful. Its trend material discusses unconventional patterns and surfaces, collages of varied materials, artistic glass, livelier baubles, embroidery and creative designs. The trade-fair outlook suggests a professional design direction rather than a survey of what consumers bought. For a home tree, the idea can be as simple as mixing one tactile handmade piece with glass or a patterned ornament.

8. Licensed, collectible and interactive keepsakes
Hallmark’s 2025 announcements show how ornaments can serve fans and collectors through character and entertainment tie-ins, hobbies, milestones, series entries and features such as lights, sound or movement. The company described its October Keepsake Ornament Debut collection as having over 150 new ornaments, and its July Dream Book collection as 450-plus Keepsake Ornaments. Those are company collection counts, not industry totals or sales figures. October examples included a musical ornament with synchronized lights, a first-in-series reindeer and licensed entertainment designs; July’s announcement included light-and-motion village and series products.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do you balance scale, color and meaning?
Think in terms of the tree’s visual focal point. Large pieces and bows create emphasis; mixed sizes and asymmetry build movement; a strong color palette unifies ornaments that come from different collections. Heirlooms and licensed keepsakes can coexist if you give them a shared color, material or placement logic—for example, grouping related pieces rather than distributing every type evenly.
Before adding more, step back and check whether the branches still show the intended shape and whether the ornaments compete with one another. A small tree may benefit from a handful of statement ornaments, while a larger tree can support more layers. These are practical styling considerations, not findings about which approach was most popular in 2025.

The sources establish that designers, a seasonal association, a trade-fair forecast and a retailer described these looks or offered relevant products for 2025. They do not establish an official top-eight ranking, independent market share, sales growth or consumer-survey results. Treat the trends as a menu of documented design directions rather than a measure of what most households chose.
