6 Practical Tricks to Make Your Samsung Frame TV Actually Look Like Art

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung’s The Frame does not automatically look like a painting. If it sits too far from the wall, shows a bright generic image, reflects a window, or has a visible cable, it still reads as a television. The convincing result comes from treating it like wall art: install it carefully, control Art Mode separately from normal TV settings, choose restrained artwork, and make the sensors work with the room.

These six adjustments apply broadly to Frame TVs, but exact menus, sensor behavior, bezel compatibility, and Art Mode features vary by model year, region, and software. Samsung says SmartThings supports Frame models from 2018 onward; confirm your model before following a specific menu path. Samsung’s support guide is the final reference for your television.

1. Mount it like a picture, not a television

The biggest visual improvement usually happens before changing a single setting. The Frame looks most convincing when it sits nearly flush with the wall, is perfectly level, and has no visible cable clutter.

Current U.S. Frame models include Samsung’s Slim Fit Wall Mount. It is designed to minimize the gap between the television and wall, although the final spacing depends on the model, wall surface, and installation. Samsung’s product page lists the mount included with current U.S. models.

  • MAKES ART LOOK LIKE REAL ART WITH A PRINT-LIKE FINISH: See your favorite works like you're seeing them hanging in a gallery or museum. The virtually glare-free screen has subtle, matte texture, making art look like a real print.
  • Plan the cable route before mounting.
  • Hide the One Connect Box and excess cable in a cabinet or approved concealed route.
  • Level the screen carefully; a slight tilt is surprisingly obvious when the TV is pretending to be a framed object.
  • Keep the display at a comfortable viewing height rather than mounting it unusually high as decorative wall art.
  • Check the wall, studs, drywall, masonry, outlet position, and screen size before selecting hardware.

A mantel, uneven plaster, brick wall, recessed outlet, or soundbar can make a truly flush installation difficult. An articulating mount may improve access and adjustment, but it generally creates a larger visible gap. For a large screen, masonry, concealed wiring, or a high-risk location, professional installation is often worth the cost.

Samsung highlights back stoppers for easier cable connection on its 2026 models. That is a model-specific improvement, not a feature to assume on older Frames. Samsung’s 2026 announcement explains the feature.

2. Add a bezel that belongs in the room

A physical bezel creates the transition that a real picture frame provides. It can make a larger difference than another round of image adjustments because it changes how the entire object relates to the wall.

Choose a finish that connects with existing furniture, flooring, architectural trim, or nearby frames. Black, white, brown, teak, and metallic finishes produce different effects; there is no universally best choice. A mismatched bezel can look more artificial than no bezel at all.

Samsung’s bezels are the safest starting point for compatibility, but they are sold separately on many models. Third-party magnetic systems offer additional finishes, though you must verify the exact model year and screen size before buying. Do not assume that a bezel made for one 55-inch Frame fits every 55-inch Frame.

Leave the sensor area unobstructed. Samsung warns that blocking the front sensor can affect sensor performance, and some third-party accessories may require model-specific clearance. Review Samsung’s sensor guidance before installing a decorative frame. Promotional bezel offers also change by purchase date, model, retailer, and redemption window; check the current promotion terms rather than relying on an advertised bundle.

3. Adjust Art Mode brightness—not ordinary TV brightness

This is the setting many owners miss. The brightness used for ordinary television viewing is not necessarily the control that makes an artwork stop looking like a glowing screen. Art Mode has its own brightness and color-related controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On many models, open the artwork in Art Mode, press Up on the Samsung remote, and select the available Art Mode controls. Through SmartThings, the general path is:

  1. Open SmartThings.
  2. Select the Frame TV.
  3. Open Art Mode.
  4. Choose Settings.
  5. Adjust brightness and related options.

Labels and paths vary by model and software, so use the on-screen options if they differ. Samsung says Art Mode brightness and color tone can respond to ambient lighting, while manual controls are also available. See Samsung’s current instructions.

A better way to set brightness

  1. Start during the brightest part of the day.
  2. Lower Art Mode brightness until the artwork no longer dominates the room.
  3. Check it again after sunset.
  4. Raise the setting only enough to retain shadow detail.
  5. Judge the image from normal viewing distance, not with your face close to the panel.

There is no reliable brightness number for every room. Pale artwork and white digital mats can remain visibly luminous even at a low setting, especially in a dark room. The Frame’s matte surface helps with reflections, but independent testing finds that it still has comparatively limited contrast and brightness against premium conventional TVs. RTINGS’ testing is a useful reminder that Art Mode is about a low-distraction presentation, not maximum display performance.

4. Use the digital matte border deliberately

The digital matte option can make an image read more like a mounted print. It is separate from the physical anti-reflection coating on the screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On supported models, the typical remote path is:

  1. Open the artwork in Art Mode.
  2. Press Up.
  3. Select Matte.
  4. Choose a matte style.
  5. Select a matte color.
  6. Save the selection.

A warm matte can suit oil paintings, wood frames, and warm interior lighting. A dark matte can make graphic artwork feel more deliberate and emphasize the edges. A white matte may resemble a traditional print, but it can also make the whole display feel brighter in a dim room.

Use the border to support the artwork rather than compete with it. If the matte is the first thing you notice, it is probably too bright, too wide, or poorly matched to the image.

Do not confuse the two matte features:

  • Physical matte display: the screen hardware that helps reduce reflections on applicable generations.
  • Digital matte effect: an on-screen border and presentation style applied around the selected artwork.

The digital option cannot add real canvas texture or change the physical surface of the panel.

5. Stop using artwork that looks like a screensaver

Resolution matters, but it is not the main test. A technically sharp image can still look artificial if it is too bright, oversaturated, badly cropped, or filled with large areas of pure white.

  • SLIM FIT WALL MOUNT INCLUDED: The Frame looks like art for many reasons. When mounted flush against the wall, the gap between the TV and the wall is minimal, creating the illusion of a genuine piece of art.

Artwork that usually works better on a backlit display has:

  • Moderate overall brightness.
  • Controlled highlights rather than broad white areas.
  • Visible midtone detail and texture.
  • A composition suited to the Frame’s exact aspect ratio.
  • Natural negative space or a border around the subject.
  • Colors that complement the room instead of competing with it.

Subdued paintings, drawings, prints, and photography can work well. Be cautious with neon palettes, extremely dark images, white-background art in a dim room, awkward crops, low-resolution files, and highly saturated or unnatural AI-generated images. A picture that looks attractive on a phone may be overwhelming when enlarged across a wall.

Uploading personal images

Samsung supports personal photos through SmartThings and USB. For phone uploads, Samsung’s current support path is:

  1. Add the TV to SmartThings.
  2. Open Devices.
  3. Select the TV.
  4. Tap Art Mode.
  5. Tap Add Your Photos.
  6. Select the images.
  7. Tap Save on The Frame.
  8. Select an image to display.

Samsung says photos should be edited before upload because the TV itself cannot edit them. You can also apply artistic effects and display multiple photos as a slideshow. The complete instructions are in Samsung’s photo-upload guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use your own photography, properly licensed artwork, or images that are genuinely in the public domain. An image appearing in an image-search result is not automatically legal to download and display, particularly in a business or public setting.

6. Make the motion and brightness sensors work with the room

The sensors are part of The Frame’s illusion. The motion sensor can wake the artwork when someone enters, while the brightness sensor can adapt the presentation to changing room light.

If the TV never turns off, wakes unexpectedly, or looks too bright at night, check the sensor setup before assuming the display is faulty. Samsung lists several factors that can affect performance, including an obstructed sensor, installation height or angle, unusually bright or dark surroundings, flashing LEDs, movement from pets or outside a window, and the color or position of objects below the TV. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance covers these conditions.

Sensor checklist

  • Do not cover the sensor with tape, décor, a soundbar, or an ill-fitting bezel.
  • Test the TV with room lights on and off.
  • Check behavior in direct sunlight and after dark.
  • If it wakes too often, reduce motion sensitivity or adjust sleep settings where available.
  • If it does not wake, remove obstructions and test from directly in front of the screen.
  • Check nearby LEDs, windows, pets, and reflective objects below the television.

Automatic brightness is convenient in an ordinary room. Manual brightness may be more predictable in spaces with unusual lighting, frequent movement, or strong changes between day and night. The trade-off is that disabling or obstructing the sensors can make the TV less convincing as an ambient artwork display.

Is the Samsung Art Store worth paying for?

In the United States, Samsung currently lists the Art Store at $4.99 per month and advertises access to more than 4,000 works. Samsung also offers Art Store Streams, a rotating selection of free artwork. Catalog size, availability, pricing, and regional plans can change, so confirm the current offer on Samsung’s U.S. Frame page and Art Store page.

Pay for it if you change artwork frequently, want curated museum and artist collections, or value convenience more than maintaining your own library.

Skip it if you display a few personal photos, already have licensed or public-domain art, or do not want another recurring subscription.

Promotional trials and credits may require a payment method and may renew after the covered period. Samsung’s offers have eligibility, expiration, and redemption conditions, so read the terms before activating one.

Final Frame TV art-mode checklist

  • Mount the TV as flush and level as the wall allows.
  • Hide the One Connect Box and cable path.
  • Choose a compatible bezel that suits the room.
  • Adjust Art Mode brightness, not just ordinary TV picture settings.
  • Select a restrained digital matte style and color.
  • Use artwork with controlled highlights, good cropping, and suitable color.
  • Keep the motion and brightness sensors clear.
  • Test the result in daylight, artificial light, and darkness.

The central rule is simple: do not optimize for the most vivid image. The Frame looks most like art when the display stops calling attention to itself. Installation, framing, room lighting, sensor behavior, brightness, and artwork selection all matter more than any single “perfect” setting.
