3form’s Arboretum is a nature-inspired architectural glass collection for interior feature walls, partitions, and related applications. Its published launch description combines three organic Varia interlayers, one Varia Digital Print treatment, and three monolithic etched-glass patterns. The practical choice is between an interlayered panel, a digitally printed panel, and an etched monolithic lite, followed by confirmation of the exact pattern, size, gauge, edge treatment, support, and code requirements with 3form.
What the Arboretum collection is
Arboretum applies a biophilic design idea to architectural glass. The collection is described as drawing on the diversity of plant life found in an arboretum, translating natural texture and visual variation into interior surfaces. That makes it relevant where a project needs a focal wall, a screened circulation route, a room divider, or a decorative panel without relying on a conventional solid finish.

The Buildings launch report published April 22, 2026, identifies seven reported visual offerings: three organic interlayers, one digital print, and three monolithic etched-glass patterns. The report does not provide individual pattern names or a written description of each pattern’s appearance, so a design team should request current samples rather than infer the look from the collection name.
Arboretum-specific information should be separated from 3form’s broader glass capabilities. The collection report gives the available material families and format counts. 3form’s general glass information explains monolithic and laminated construction, published gauge ranges, panel limits, and general performance figures. Those general figures are not proof that every Arboretum configuration has the same performance.

Arboretum options at a glance
| Arboretum family | Visual treatment | Reported substrate or appearance | Published format information | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Organic Varia | Organic interlayer | Varia panel with an interlayer; the report says color can be added to Varia | Two sizes and five gauges | Exact dimensions, gauge values, color/interlayer combination, edge and mounting details |
| Varia Digital Print | Digital print within the Varia construction | Printed decorative treatment; the report says color can be added to Varia | Two sizes and seven gauges | Print scale, color control, orientation, exact sizes and gauges, and approved fabrication details |
| Monolithic Etched Glass | Etched pattern on a single lite | Low Iron or Clear Float | Up to 4 by 10 feet and four gauges | Pattern selection, exact gauge, surface orientation, dimensions, edge finish and support |
“Two sizes” and “five gauges” (or “seven gauges”) are counts of choices reported for the collection, not a complete dimension schedule. Treat them as an initial design range and obtain the current manufacturer specification before drawing panel grids or ordering material.
How to choose between the three material families
Organic Varia for layered, tactile color
Organic Varia is the appropriate starting point when the design intent depends on a layered interlayer rather than a surface-only mark. The interlayer sits within the panel construction, allowing the visual effect to read through the glass. Because the launch report specifically notes that color can be added to Varia, the design team can coordinate the panel with a finish schedule instead of treating the collection as limited to a single neutral appearance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAsk for physical samples at the intended viewing distance. Transmitted daylight, adjacent wall color, artificial lighting and the thickness of the panel can all change how an interlayer reads. A sample also lets the architect check seams, repeat direction and the relationship between opaque and transparent areas before a large wall is released for fabrication.
Varia Digital Print for controlled graphic variation
Varia Digital Print is the choice when the project needs a printed image or controlled graphic field rather than only the texture of an organic interlayer. The collection report lists one digital-print offering and seven available gauges across two sizes. It does not state the print-resolution limits, color-management process, opacity, UV specification or whether a particular image can be reproduced at a chosen scale.
Before approving artwork, request the current digital-print file requirements and a production sample. Confirm the viewing side, image orientation, repeat or crop, color target, and how the print aligns at panel joints. A drawing that shows only a wall elevation can miss a reversal or mismatch at a partition return.

Monolithic Etched Glass for a single-lite pattern
Monolithic Etched Glass uses one lite with an etched treatment. The reported Arboretum offering is available in Low Iron or Clear Float, up to 4 by 10 feet, in four gauges. 3form’s general glass description says a monolithic lite may be etched, back-painted or left natural; that is a description of the broader material family, not a promise that every finish is offered in every Arboretum pattern.

Low Iron is described by 3form as crystal clear without the typical natural-glass hue. Clear Float has the slightly greenish cast associated with ordinary natural glass. The difference is most noticeable beside white paint, pale stone, bright graphics and daylight. Specify the substrate explicitly in the schedule so a substitution does not change the intended color balance.
What the published sizes and gauges mean for design
The launch report gives different choice counts for each family:
- Organic Varia: two sizes and five gauges.
- Varia Digital Print: two sizes and seven gauges.
- Monolithic Etched Glass: Low Iron or Clear Float, up to 4 by 10 feet, in four gauges.
Those figures support early planning, but they do not replace a project-specific cut sheet. Confirm whether a listed size is a stock panel, a maximum, or a fabrication option; whether the gauge count applies to every pattern; and whether oversize panels require a particular route, lift plan or joint strategy.
For context, 3form’s general glass page publishes gauges from 3/16 inch (4.7 mm) through 13/16 inch (20.64 mm). It also lists general maximum panel sizes of 48 by 120 inches for laminated glass and 60 by 120 inches for monolithic glass. The Arboretum report’s 4-by-10-foot monolithic limit equals 48 by 120 inches, but the collection-specific limit should govern the design until 3form confirms otherwise. Do not use the larger general monolithic maximum to assume an Arboretum panel can be made at 60 by 120 inches.

Using Arboretum in feature walls and partitions
Feature walls
A feature wall benefits from a deliberate module strategy. Establish the finished wall width and height, then set panel joints where they align with doors, columns, lighting or architectural reveals. Keep the selected interlayer, print or etch direction consistent from panel to panel. If the wall is backlit, evaluate a full-size lighting mock-up: a treatment that looks subtle in reflected light may become much stronger when illuminated from behind.
Coordinate the glass with the backing wall, shadow gaps, base and head conditions. The Arboretum material is the decorative face; the surrounding construction still determines movement, moisture management, access and replacement. Record the visible glass size separately from the nominal opening so tolerances do not consume the intended pattern.
Partitions and screens
For a partition, decide whether the glass is a fixed screen, a framed panel, a door insert or part of a demountable system. A decorative panel does not automatically provide a code-compliant guard, fall barrier, door lite or impact-resistant assembly. Those uses require a reviewed assembly, appropriate safety glazing and hardware selected for the actual thickness and weight.
Set privacy expectations from the sample. The available information does not establish an Arboretum-specific privacy rating, visibility percentage or acoustic result. An etched or interlayered visual may soften sightlines without blocking silhouettes, so show the client a sample from both sides and at the real corridor distance.

3form’s general glass page lists a sound transmission class (STC) range of 31–38 for 3form Glass. That is general glass information, not an Arboretum-specific acoustic rating. STC belongs to an assembly as well as to a glass product; framing, joints, doors, flanking paths and installation can change the result. Do not place an STC value in an Arboretum partition schedule unless a current, applicable test or specification confirms the complete assembly.

The same page describes the material as having a non-combustible surface. That statement is not a substitute for an assembly-level fire classification, smoke-control requirement or listing required by the project’s code official. A partition near an exit, property line or rated corridor needs documentation for the entire tested construction, including framing, seals and penetrations.
Likewise, the general explanation that laminated glass consists of two lites joined together, while monolithic glass is one lite, helps explain construction but does not establish impact, strength, safety-glazing, thermal or moisture performance for a particular Arboretum panel.

- Define the application. Identify whether the panel is a wall finish, fixed partition, screen, door lite, guard, wet-area element or another use. Flag any location with impact, fall, fire, acoustic or accessibility requirements.
- Select the visual family. Choose organic Varia, Varia Digital Print or Monolithic Etched Glass. Record the intended pattern only after reviewing current samples; the launch report does not name the three etched patterns.
- Choose the substrate appearance. For monolithic etched glass, state Low Iron or Clear Float. Use Low Iron when a neutral, crystal-clear appearance is important; use Clear Float when the natural greenish cast is acceptable or desired.
- Request the current size and gauge schedule. Match the panel grid to the available options rather than assuming the count of sizes represents any desired dimension. Confirm tolerances, maximums and whether the selected pattern is available at the chosen gauge.
- Coordinate interfaces. Detail edges, joints, backing, frames, channels, glass-to-glass connections, doors, access panels and replacement clearances. The reviewed information does not establish an Arboretum-specific installation assembly.
- Check code and performance documents. Obtain the applicable safety-glazing, structural, fire, acoustic and accessibility documentation for the complete assembly. Do not copy general STC, fire or panel-limit data into the project specification without confirming applicability.
- Approve a control sample or mock-up. Review color, print scale, etch density, transparency, edge appearance and lighting under project conditions. Keep the approved sample identified in the submittal record.
- Confirm fabrication and delivery. Ask about lead time, packaging, lifting, storage, inspection at delivery and replacement policy. These commercial and logistics details were not published in the available collection information and must be quoted for the project.
Installation and technical documents
3form’s technical-resource index lists a Glass Spec Sheet, glass direct-glue installation instructions, and hardware and installation resources. Use the current documents for the selected construction and follow the manufacturer’s stated substrate preparation, adhesive, cure, joint and handling requirements. A generic glass detail may be incompatible with an interlayered or digitally printed panel.
Because no Arboretum-specific assembly or complete hardware-compatibility answer is established, submit the proposed panel, support system and fixing method to 3form before release. Include panel dimensions, gauge, weight, edge conditions, orientation, adjacent materials and whether the glass is fixed, hinged or demountable. The consultant can then identify the applicable technical document or an approved detail.
Common specification mistakes and fixes
- Assuming the collection name identifies a pattern. Fix: request and label samples; the available launch text does not name or depict the individual patterns.
- Treating “two sizes” as unlimited custom sizing. Fix: obtain the current dimension schedule and design joints around confirmed sizes.
- Using the general 60-by-120-inch monolithic maximum. Fix: use the reported Arboretum limit of up to 4 by 10 feet until the manufacturer confirms a different collection-specific option.
- Calling a partition acoustic because glass has an STC range. Fix: specify only a tested, complete assembly; the 31–38 range is general 3form Glass data.
- Using “non-combustible surface” as a fire-rating claim. Fix: obtain assembly-level code documentation for the wall or partition.
- Ignoring the green cast of Clear Float. Fix: compare Clear Float and Low Iron beside the project’s light colors and graphics.
- Releasing artwork without a print mock-up. Fix: confirm scale, orientation, color and panel-to-panel alignment with a production sample.
- Ordering before confirming installation. Fix: review the current Glass Spec Sheet, direct-glue instructions and hardware details with the local consultant.
Samples, quotes and project support
3form directs users to local consultants for current samples, quote requests and general project consultation. That is the appropriate route for confirming the exact Arboretum pattern, available gauge, dimensions, colors, fabrication, installation approach, pricing and lead time.
No current price, recurring price schedule, lead time or direct consumer purchase route is established for Arboretum. Treat any allowance in an early estimate as provisional until a project quote identifies the selected family, substrate, size, gauge, finish, quantity, shipping and installation responsibilities.
Decision guide
| If the project priority is… | Start with… | First confirmation to obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Layered natural texture with coordinated color | Organic Varia | Interlayer sample, color options, two available sizes and five-gauge schedule |
| A controlled graphic or image field | Varia Digital Print | Artwork requirements, print scale, color sample, two sizes and seven-gauge schedule |
| A single-lite etched surface and a choice of glass clarity | Monolithic Etched Glass | Pattern sample, Low Iron versus Clear Float, four-gauge schedule and size limit up to 4 by 10 feet |
| A performance-critical partition or rated location | The family that meets the reviewed assembly design | Applicable safety, structural, acoustic and fire documents for the complete construction |
For a live specification, the decisive information is not the collection name alone. It is the approved sample plus a current manufacturer confirmation of panel construction, dimensions, gauge, support and code documentation for the exact interior assembly.
