The right keyboard stand is the one that fits your instrument’s feet, supports its weight, and lets you play at a comfortable height without blocking your legs or pedals. The available specifications support a useful shortlist of 15 models and configurations, but not a tested ranking: treat the capacities and features below as manufacturer or catalog claims, not proof that one stand is safer or more stable than another.
How to choose a keyboard stand that fits
Match the stand to your instrument
Check the keyboard’s weight and the stand’s published limit, then confirm that the instrument’s feet or base sit securely on the stand’s support arms or platform. A maximum load alone does not tell you whether the support width and depth suit your keyboard. Measure the instrument and compare those dimensions with the stand’s usable support area where the manufacturer publishes them.
Choose a shape for your posture and room
X stands fold compactly, but their braces can reduce knee clearance when you play seated. Z and table-style designs may provide a more open area beneath the keyboard; compare the actual frame and pedal space rather than assuming every stand in a category fits the same way. Check height range against your preferred seated or standing position.
Consider stability, transport, and expansion
- Stability features: Look for secure locks, padded or slip-resistant contact surfaces, and adjustable feet if your floor is uneven. Listed features are not independent tests of wobble or stability.
- Moving the rig: Compare stand weight, folding or disassembly, and folded dimensions if published. The specifications available here do not test all models under the same portability conditions.
- Adding a second keyboard: Check that the tier is explicitly compatible with your stand and note its own load limit. Add-on tiers are not universally interchangeable.

Adjustable X stands
- Yamaha YKA7500: A double-braced X stand with manufacturer-listed height adjustment of 25.2–38.6 inches, base spread of 13–32.7 inches, arm depth of 13.6 inches, weight of 18.1 lb, and maximum capacity of 315 lb. Treat this as a published-spec example, not a tested winner. Yamaha YKA7500 specifications.
- König & Meyer 18990 Rick: This double-braced X stand has a published height range of 594–946 mm, support width of 327–789 mm, depth of 350 mm, and capacity of 50 kg. Its adjustable end caps are intended to help on uneven floors, and the maker lists a quick clamping lever. König & Meyer says, “The ergonomic clamping lever makes it easy to setup and collapse the keyboard stand.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment. - Casio ARST: A single-braced folding X stand with six height positions, described by Casio for its portable keyboard line and other portable keyboards. Casio’s accessible product information emphasizes height positions and transport; it does not establish a load capacity, so check fit and weight suitability with the maker before relying on it for a particular instrument. - On-Stage KS8291XX Ergo-Lok: A double-X stand listed in On-Stage’s 2026 catalog with a 320 lb capacity. That catalog figure is a manufacturer specification, not a comparative stability result. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
Z-frame stands
- Roland KS-11Z: A steel Z stand intended for 88-note stage pianos and portable keyboards. Roland lists adjustable width of 566–940 mm, height of 645–917 mm, fold-down padded arms, adjustable feet, and a capacity of 100 kg. - On-Stage KS7350 Folding-Z: The 2026 catalog lists a 375 lb capacity. Its folding Z format is worth considering if you want a Z-frame design that can be folded for storage or transport; the catalog capacity does not independently establish stability. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
- On-Stage KS1355 single-tier Z stand: Listed at 400 lb capacity in the 2026 catalog. Confirm support dimensions and playing height for your keyboard; the cited catalog information does not make those details a universal fit guarantee. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
- On-Stage KS7365EJ Folding-Z with second tier: The 2026 catalog lists 400 lb total capacity and 60 lb for the upper tier. Those are separate limits: do not treat the upper tier as rated for the full stand capacity. Verify the layout and clearance against both keyboards. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
Multi-tier and A-frame options
- K&M 18990 Rick with 18941 stacker: K&M names the 18941 as the second-keyboard stacker for its 18990 Rick stand. This is a model-specific pairing; check the stacker’s current fit and load specifications before assembling a two-keyboard rig. K&M 18990 product page.
- On-Stage KS7903 three-tier A-frame: The 2026 catalog lists 40 lb per tier and 120 lb total. Respect both limits: the total rating does not mean any one tier can carry 120 lb. Check each keyboard’s placement and clearance. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
- On-Stage KSA7500 universal second tier: The 2026 catalog lists a 60 lb capacity and describes compatibility with suitable tubing. “Universal” does not mean it fits every stand: verify the host stand’s tubing and the attachment’s fit before purchase. On-Stage 2026 catalog.
Additional catalog configurations to check
The On-Stage 2026 catalog also lists purpose-built multi-tier stands and model-specific add-ons, but the cited specifications do not provide enough detail here to identify five more individual models responsibly. Rather than inventing model names or capacities to fill out a ranking, use the catalog to confirm the exact product, tier limits, and compatible stand before choosing an additional configuration. The figures vary in both units and product design: Yamaha lists 315 lb for the YKA7500, K&M lists 50 kg for the 18990, and Roland lists 100 kg for the KS-11Z. These are model-specific manufacturer specifications, not results from a shared test. A larger published number does not establish that a stand is more stable, better built, or more appropriate for your instrument. Use the stated limit as one fit check, alongside contact dimensions, frame geometry, floor conditions, and playing posture.

Before you set up
- Confirm the exact stand and accessory model numbers; similarly named tiers may not fit the same tubing or frame.
- Place the keyboard so its feet or base are fully supported, then secure the stand’s locks according to its instructions.
- Check leg, knee, and pedal clearance in your normal seated or standing position.
- On an uneven floor, use only the stand’s intended leveling or adjustable-foot feature; do not improvise a support under a loaded stand.
- For a two- or three-keyboard arrangement, observe both per-tier and total capacity limits where supplied.
