Yes—but not every Sonos speaker can do it. Philips Hue control works through Sonos Voice Control, and your Hue system must use a Philips Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro. Bluetooth-only Hue setups are not supported.
What Sonos can control
Once connected, you can use a compatible Sonos speaker to control Philips Hue lights and smart plugs by voice. You can:

- Turn individual lights or all the lights in a Hue room on or off.
- Dim or brighten lights.
- Change color on compatible color-capable bulbs and fixtures.
- Adjust warmth or coolness where the Hue product supports color temperature control.
- Activate named Hue scenes.
- Switch Hue smart plugs on or off, including plugs connected to lamps.
Example commands include:
| Task | Example |
|---|---|
| Turn on a room | “Hey Sonos, turn on the kitchen lights.” |
| Dim lights | “Hey Sonos, dim the dining room lights.” |
| Turn off a light | “Hey Sonos, turn off the porch light.” |
| Activate a scene | “Hey Sonos, turn on Natural Light.” |
| Change color | “Hey Sonos, make the lights blue.” |
| Control a plug | “Hey Sonos, turn off the lamp plug.” |
Use the exact light, room and scene names shown in the Hue app. Short, distinctive names are less likely to cause confusion.

What you need
The integration requires all of the following:
- A Philips Hue account.
- A Philips Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro.
- At least one Hue light or smart plug.
- A voice-enabled Sonos product with Sonos Voice Control enabled.
- The Sonos and Hue apps installed on the same mobile device.
- Access to both accounts and a working household network.
A Bluetooth-only Hue installation is not enough. You must add a Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro. Likewise, owning a Sonos product does not automatically make it voice-enabled: the speaker must support Sonos Voice Control and have a working microphone.

Set up Sonos Voice Control first
If Sonos Voice Control is not already active:
- Open the Sonos app on iOS or Android.
- Go to Settings.
- Select General Settings.
- Select Voice Assistants.
- Choose Add a Voice Assistant.

Link Hue and Sonos
The current setup begins in the Hue app, not the Sonos app:
- Open the Hue app.
- Tap Settings in the bottom-right corner.
- Select Smart Home.
- Tap the plus (+) icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Sonos Voice Control.
- Allow Hue to open the Sonos app.
- Complete the setup wizard in Sonos.
- When Hue opens again, select the relevant Hue Home.
- Accept Hue’s terms and conditions to link the Sonos system to your Hue account and Home.
- Confirm that the Sonos app reports successful completion.
- Return to Hue and verify the connection under Sonos Voice Control.
During setup, keep the phone connected to the intended household network and make sure the Hue Bridge is online.
What this integration does not do
This is primarily a voice-control integration, not a replacement for the Hue app. Use Hue to configure bulbs, rooms, scenes, schedules, sensors and other lighting behavior.

- BUILT TO LAST: These Hue LED bulbs are designed to last, with an average lifespan of 25,000 hours
- It does not make every Sonos speaker voice-enabled.
- It does not support Bluetooth-only Hue systems for this integration.
- It does not control arbitrary smart bulbs; the supported lighting system is Philips Hue.
- It does not remove the need for a Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro.
- It is not the same as automatically synchronizing lights to music.
- It does not turn the Sonos app into a full manual lighting-control app.
- It should not be treated as guaranteed remote control between separate homes or networks.
Sonos says Sonos Voice Control commands are processed locally and are not recorded or sent to the cloud. However, initial setup still requires account linking through the Sonos and Hue apps, and the systems must communicate with the Hue Bridge. Do not assume every function will work during an internet or local-network outage.

The Sonos option is missing in Hue
- Confirm that a Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro is installed and online.
- Make sure at least one Hue light or plug is configured.
- Update both apps if updates are offered.
- Check that you are signed in to the intended Hue and Sonos accounts.
- Confirm that Sonos Voice Control is available and enabled on a compatible speaker.
- Keep the phone and smart-home equipment on the intended household network during setup.
“Hey Sonos” is not recognized
Check that the speaker has a working, unmuted microphone and that Sonos Voice Control is enabled. Use a supported language and try the exact room, device or scene name shown in Hue.
On/off works, but color does not
Color commands require a color-capable Hue product. A white-only bulb cannot change to blue or another color, although it may still support on/off, dimming or color-temperature adjustments depending on its capabilities.

A scene is not recognized
Use the exact scene name from Hue. Rename ambiguous scenes and avoid using the same name for a room, light and scene. Adding the room name can also make the request clearer.
You want to remove the connection
In the Hue app, go to Settings → Smart Home → Sonos Voice Control → Unlink from Sonos Voice Control. Hue also provides an account-based revocation option through its website. See Sonos’ unlinking instructions for the current process.

Is it worth adding hardware?
The integration is most useful when you already own a Hue Bridge and a compatible Sonos speaker. It gives you quick room-level lighting control without reaching for your phone, and it lets you trigger existing Hue scenes from rooms where Sonos audio is already installed.

It is a weaker reason to buy a Sonos speaker by itself. A Sonos product should first make sense for your audio needs; light control is an added benefit. Similarly, buying a Hue Bridge is worthwhile for someone building a larger Hue system, but may be unnecessary if basic voice control through an existing Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home setup already meets your needs.
Choose white or white-ambiance Hue products for on/off, dimming and warmth control. Choose color-capable products if you specifically want spoken color changes or colorful scenes.
