That makes the purchase decision less about whether one machine “does metal” and more about matching the welder power, cutting method, material and thickness to the work. The CNC platform is relevant if you need automated cutting within its work area; it is not required for the welder’s listed handheld functions.
Can MetalFab weld and cut metal?
Yes. xTool lists welding and handheld cutting for both welder models, while automated CNC cutting requires the optional cutter. What is the difference between the 800W and 1200W MetalFab?
The clearest published difference is capacity: the 1200W listing gives higher maximum thicknesses for the stated welding, handheld cutting and CNC cutting workflows. Choose by the material and thickness you actually expect to process, rather than assuming the higher-wattage model is necessary for every job.

Does the MetalFab CNC cutter work without the welder?
xTool’s user guide describes the cutter and welder as having distinct roles during CNC laser processing, with the welder supplying the laser source. The documentation does not present the CNC cutter as an independent laser cutter that can operate without a MetalFab welder. The guide specifies the cutter’s own input as 100–240 V, but that does not replace the welder’s separate circuit requirement.

The guide lists a 610 mm × 610 mm internal processing area and a maximum processing speed of 400 mm/s. These are xTool specifications in its CNC Cutter user guide, updated February 11, 2026; maximum speed should not be read as a guaranteed speed for every material or job.
What power does the xTool MetalFab need?
xTool lists 200–240 V for the welder, with a circuit rated at least 15 A for the 800W model and at least 21 A for the 1200W model. Its support materials advise against using an ordinary household circuit. Before buying, confirm the regional electrical requirements with xTool and have a qualified electrician assess the intended installation; do not assume an existing outlet or breaker is suitable.

What safety controls and workspace should buyers consider?
xTool says the welder has a safety circuit loop, USB key lock, emergency stop and grip-sensing button. These are machine controls, not a substitute for a laser-safe work area, proper operating procedures or appropriate personal protective equipment. Review the official manuals before setup and operation, and plan for fumes and other hazards under the actual materials and conditions being processed.

That is a manufacturer-reported figure; the sound level at a particular installation can depend on operating conditions. How should MetalFab compare with TIG or MIG?
xTool positions MetalFab for thin-metal work and contrasts it with traditional welding methods for thick, heavy welding. That is a use-case distinction, not evidence that laser welding is universally better than TIG or MIG. Compare the process against your joint, material, thickness, finish, site conditions and operator requirements.
