The xTool F2 Ultra is available in two configurations: a dual-laser model with a 40 W diode and a 60 W MOPA infrared laser, and a single-laser model with the 60 W MOPA source only. The dual version is aimed at buyers who need both non-metal processing and metal engraving; the single version is the more focused choice for metal work. Those are manufacturer-described capabilities, not independent test results. The key purchase checks are whether you need the diode, whether the stated work area fits your jobs, whether your workflow can run without LightBurn, and whether you can meet the machine’s laser-safety requirements.
What is the xTool F2 Ultra?
The xTool F2 Ultra is an enclosed desktop laser engraver offered in dual-laser and single-laser configurations. xTool lists the dual version as a 40 W blue-light diode plus a 60 W MOPA infrared laser; the F2 Ultra Single has the 60 W MOPA laser only. The manufacturer positions the dual model for a wider range of materials and processes and the single version for users focused on metal. These descriptions come from xTool, not an independent comparison or hands-on review.
For a construction shop, fabrication studio, or small business, the practical distinction is whether the work calls for the diode as well as the MOPA source. Do not buy the Single assuming it can handle every job listed for the dual model: it omits the diode laser.
What can the xTool F2 Ultra engrave?
xTool’s processing guidance assigns different roles to the two sources. The blue-light diode is typically used for materials such as wood, corrugated paper, and leather, and for laser cutting. The MOPA infrared laser is described as suitable for engraving metals including stainless steel, gold, silver, copper, and aluminum. Results depend on the specific material and machine settings, so these material lists are guidance rather than a guarantee for every stock, finish, or job.

xTool also advertises cutting capacities of up to 2 mm for brass and stainless steel and up to 1 mm for aluminum. Those are manufacturer claims dependent on material, settings, and optimized conditions; they are not independently verified performance figures. Confirm that a particular material and cut are supported before basing production plans on those limits.

How large a workpiece can it handle?
The xTool User Guide states an internal work area of 220 × 220 mm. The product page lists an expanded area of 220 × 500 mm when used with the conveyor. The conveyor therefore matters if the job requires a longer processing length than the internal area allows; it does not change the stated 220 mm width.
Check the exact contents of the selected package rather than assuming the conveyor is included. The available documentation cited here does not establish whether it is bundled with every configuration, or whether it is sold separately in every market. The User Guide also lists a maximum processing speed of 15,000 mm/s. That is a manufacturer specification, not a measured production rate, and does not establish the time required for a particular design or material.

Does the F2 Ultra work with LightBurn?
No. xTool states that both the F2 Ultra and F2 Ultra Single are no longer compatible with LightBurn, citing security concerns with the prior open access protocols. Its product-page FAQ says: “No. To ensure the security of user data transmission, F2 Ultra/F2 Ultra(Single) is no longer compatible with Lightburn, as the previous access protocols were all open protocols.”
If LightBurn is central to your existing workflow, treat this as a major compatibility issue before buying. Confirm that the software and workflow supported for the exact F2 Ultra configuration meet your needs; the cited information does not establish every current software feature or integration.

What connectivity does xTool list?
The manufacturer’s product information lists Wi-Fi, USB, and IP connections in the support-guide specifications. Connectivity options do not change the LightBurn limitation: xTool says the F2 Ultra models are not compatible with that software.
What should buyers know about safety?
xTool’s safety documentation classifies the dual-laser F2 Ultra as a Class 4 laser device. An advertised enclosure and fire-safety features do not eliminate laser hazards or replace the manufacturer’s precautions. Consult the current safety instructions for your region and plan the machine’s location and operating procedures accordingly. The cited safety classification is specifically documented for the dual-laser model; check the applicable documentation for the exact version you are considering.
- Review the current regional safety instructions before operation.
- Follow the manufacturer’s precautions for installation and use.
- Do not treat the enclosure or advertised fire-safety features as proof that additional safety procedures are unnecessary.
Is the xTool F2 Ultra worth considering?
The configuration choice is the clearest basis for deciding: the dual model adds the diode source for the non-metal and cutting applications xTool describes, while the Single retains only the MOPA laser for a more metal-focused setup. Match the stated 220 × 220 mm internal area—or the 220 × 500 mm area listed with a conveyor—to your actual parts, and confirm whether the conveyor is in the package you are buying.
Before committing, also confirm the current price, regional availability, warranty, package contents, and supported software with the seller or manufacturer. The available manufacturer information establishes specifications and stated compatibility, but it does not establish independent performance, repeatability, maintenance burden, noise, service experience, or comparative value. A buying decision that depends on those factors needs evidence beyond the product specifications.
