Short answer: Xiaomi’s Mijia Automatic Soap Dispenser LINE FRIENDS Limited Edition was a real China-market product launched in November 2024, not a new August 2026 release. Its Sally-themed design, touch-free dispensing and reported 220 mL capacity are documented, but the often-repeated “180-day battery” figure belongs to Xiaomi’s related Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S unless the limited edition’s own product sheet confirms otherwise. The “99.9% antibacterial” claim describes testing of a soap formulation against specified organisms—not proof that the dispenser sterilizes hands or prevents infection.
What Xiaomi actually launched
The product was the Mijia Automatic Soap Dispenser LINE FRIENDS Limited Edition, a yellow Sally-themed foaming soap dispenser created around the LINE FRIENDS collaboration. Contemporary coverage reported a Chinese crowdfunding price of 119 yuan, roughly $17 at the time, with the official launch scheduled for November 6, 2024. GizmoChina’s launch report described a 220 mL refillable bottle, Type-C charging, touch-free operation and approximately 300 uses.
That history matters because listings or social posts may present this as a current global Xiaomi launch. It was reported for China, and no current official U.S. product page for the exact LINE FRIENDS edition has been verified. Xiaomi and Mijia products can also be sold through different regional channels, so “Xiaomi launches” does not automatically mean the product is stocked or supported by Xiaomi’s international stores.
The 180-day battery claim comes from a related model
Xiaomi’s official page for the standard Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S claims up to 180 days per charge. Xiaomi bases that estimate on approximately eight dispensing events per day while the unit otherwise remains in standby. The safe interpretation is: Xiaomi rates the related dispenser at up to 180 days under a stated usage pattern. It is not a universal runtime guarantee, and the dossier does not establish that the exact LINE FRIENDS edition received the same 180-day rating.
Actual runtime can be shorter with a large family, frequent handwashing, repeated accidental triggers, battery aging, extreme temperatures, a clogged nozzle or other mechanical problems. A commercial bathroom or busy household should treat six months as a standardized best-case estimate rather than a promise.
What “99.9% antibacterial” really means
The antibacterial figure applies to the supplied or compatible soap formulation, not to the dispenser’s electronics. Xiaomi material identifies testing involving Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. A Russian Xiaomi product page attributes the test report to Guangzhou CAS Testing Technology Service Co., Ltd., report number JKW180227-04. Xiaomi’s antibacterial product material is the relevant source.
That information does not, by itself, establish the precise test protocol, contact time, whether the result means inhibition or killing, whether it applies to every refill, or whether it represents a U.S.-approved antimicrobial claim. It also does not mean that 99.9% of germs are removed from hands during ordinary household use.
Touch-free dispensing may reduce contact with a pump surface, but the product still requires normal handwashing: apply soap, rub all hand surfaces thoroughly, and rinse. Dispensing soap is not the same as disinfecting hands.
How the dispenser works
An infrared sensor detects a hand beneath the spout and activates the pump without requiring contact. Xiaomi says foam appears in approximately 0.25 seconds on the applicable automatic dispenser models. The standard 1S uses a claimed 12:1 air-to-liquid ratio to produce dense foam.
- Place your hand beneath the sensor.
- Keep it still while the dispenser releases foam.
- Rub your hands thoroughly, including between the fingers and around the thumbs.
- Rinse with water.
On the standard model, Xiaomi identifies the sensor as the area below the foam outlet in the black transparent section. Keep that area clean and unobstructed.

Capacity, uses and refill expectations
The LINE FRIENDS report describes a 220 mL bottle and approximately 300 uses. Those are reported figures for that limited edition and should not be merged with measurements from the standard dispenser.

They are not contradictory proof that every Xiaomi dispenser lasts the same amount of time.
The most important ownership issue is compatibility. “Refillable” does not mean “works with any liquid hand soap.” Xiaomi recommends its official soap, and its FAQ warns that non-official sanitizer may cause malfunction and may not be covered by warranty. A liquid that is too thick, too thin or chemically unsuitable may produce weak foam, clog the nozzle or damage the pump. Xiaomi’s 1S FAQ contains the relevant refill warning.
Before importing the LINE FRIENDS model, check whether replacement soap is available, what it costs after shipping, whether the bottle can be refilled without damaging the pump, and whether the seller has a documented compatible formula. A low purchase price can become poor value if every refill must be imported.
It is not a Xiaomi Home smart device
Xiaomi’s FAQ says the Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S does not support binding to or connection with the Xiaomi Home app. It is an automatic standalone appliance, not an app-controlled smart-home accessory. Buyers seeking usage statistics, remote control or integration with other Xiaomi devices should not assume those features are present.
Water resistance is not waterproofing
The standard 1S is rated IPX5. In practical terms, that indicates resistance to water jets under specified test conditions; it does not mean the dispenser can be submerged.
Xiaomi advises wiping the unit with a damp cloth rather than rinsing or soaking it. Keep the Type-C charging-port seal properly closed, and do not store the filled unit flat or upside down because Xiaomi warns that this can cause leakage or damage. The dispenser belongs beside a sink—not under a running tap.

Setup and use on the standard 1S
The following procedure comes from Xiaomi’s documentation for the standard 1S. The LINE FRIENDS edition may use different packaging or a different bottle connection, so confirm its manual before applying these steps.
- Remove the soap bottle.
- Unscrew the cap counterclockwise and remove the stopper.
- Twist the bottle into the dispenser until it is firmly fixed.
- Fully charge the unit before first use.
- Remove the silicone plug from the Type-C port, connect the charging cable, and replace the plug after charging.
- Hold the power button for one second to turn the dispenser on.
- Place a hand beneath the sensor to dispense foam.
- Rub and rinse your hands.
- Hold the power button for one second to turn it off, or leave it to enter standby automatically.
Troubleshooting common problems
No foam
Xiaomi recommends checking whether the bottle is empty, charging the battery, removing the foam spout and triggering the sensor several times, then reinstalling the bottle. Other likely causes include a clogged nozzle, an improperly seated bottle, unsuitable refill liquid or prolonged disuse. Do not immediately assume the motor has failed.
Accidental repeat dispensing
Repeated hand movement beneath the sensor can trigger a second or third dose. Hold your hand still at the recommended sensing distance instead of moving it repeatedly under the outlet. This also helps conserve soap and battery.
Leakage or water damage
- Do not rinse the complete unit.
- Do not submerge it.
- Do not operate or charge it with the port seal open.
- Do not store it inverted or flat while filled.
- Do not interpret IPX5 as immersion protection.
Availability outside China
The exact Sally/LINE FRIENDS edition should be treated as a China-market collectible unless a seller can prove otherwise. No official current U.S. listing for that limited edition was confirmed in the available research.
Imported listings may be legitimate, discontinued or unauthorized. Before buying, verify the model number, seller identity, shipping region, return policy, replacement-soap supply and warranty coverage. A China-market product may have limited or no local service support, and the original 119-yuan crowdfunding price is historical rather than a current worldwide retail price.

Skip it if you need generic-soap compatibility, a confirmed U.S. warranty, app integration, guaranteed current stock or the lowest long-term operating cost. The novelty design may command a premium over Xiaomi’s standard dispenser without adding functional advantages.
For a more conventional purchase, Xiaomi’s standard Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S is easier to evaluate because its specifications and support documentation are published. For U.S. shoppers who prioritize an established domestic buying channel and refill ecosystem over the Xiaomi design, Simplehuman’s official Sensor Pump Foam is a more expensive alternative. Its listed price was observed at $80 for the brushed finish and $90 for several other finishes, with foam refills listed at $12 per bottle at the time of research; prices can change.
The practical decision is less about whether the Xiaomi dispenser looks cute and more about whether the exact model, refill supply and warranty are workable where you live.
