Xiaomi’s Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition is a China-first indoor pan-tilt camera with a dual-lens system, 4K support, AI tracking and Xiaomi HyperOS/Xiaomi Home integration. It was listed on Xiaomi Youpin on August 14, 2025, with crowdfunding scheduled for August 20 at 10:00 a.m. China Standard Time. Reported pricing was 399 yuan during crowdfunding and 469 yuan at regular retail.
The headline number needs context: this is 9x hybrid zoom, not 9x optical zoom. The camera reportedly provides 3x optical magnification through a dedicated telephoto lens, with digital or computational zoom making up the rest. There is no confirmed global or US retail launch for this exact model in the available reporting.

What makes the Xiaomi Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition different?
The Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition is an indoor pan-tilt-zoom security camera designed to show both a broad room view and closer details of people or pets farther away. Xiaomi’s “first indoor zoom camera” description appears to refer to its first Xiaomi-branded indoor model in this line with a dedicated telephoto camera and meaningful optical zoom.

Digital zoom simply enlarges or crops existing pixels. Optical zoom uses a telephoto lens to magnify the image before processing, generally preserving more detail. Hybrid zoom combines optical magnification with digital processing.

Launch coverage reports an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera paired with a 5-megapixel telephoto camera. The ultra-wide lens is intended for general monitoring, while the telephoto lens provides the reported 3x optical zoom. Digital magnification extends the advertised maximum to 9x hybrid zoom.
Consequently, the camera should be more useful than a purely digital-zoom model when viewing a distant subject, but image quality will still decline beyond the optical range. Softness, noise and compression artifacts are especially likely in poor light or when the subject is far from the camera. Launch reporting and additional coverage describe the dual-camera and zoom system.

The 4K claim means the camera supports 4K imaging, but the available launch information does not establish every supported resolution, frame rate or whether all modes use the full 4K output. The 10-metre infrared figure is also a stated range, not a guarantee of clear facial identification at that distance.

What the AI tracking features do
According to launch reports, the camera can recognise people using body shape and posture, follow moving people, and adjust zoom according to the subject’s size in the frame. Reported smart features also include pet tracking, baby-cry detection, motion-triggered zoom and gesture-controlled calls initiated with an “OK” hand gesture. These capabilities come from launch reporting and manufacturer claims, not independent accuracy testing.

- 2K UHD Clarity & Full-Colour Night Vision, 24/7: Monitor your home in vivid, true-to-life detail with 3MP and 2K UHD resolution. The high-sensitivity sensor enables extended full-colour imaging in low light, while six non-glow infrared illuminators ensure clear black & white footage in complete darkness for round-the-clock security.
- Multi-Layer Privacy: Physical Shield & Financial-Grade Chip: For ultimate peace of mind, the lens physically retracts into the body to block the view. Your data is protected by an MJA1 security chip with unique keys for financial-grade security, local AI processing for speed, and encrypted cloud transfers.
- Local AI Guardian: Smart Detection for Family & Pets: The camera’s local AI instantly notifies you when it detects a crying baby, a human (with tracking), or your pets (cats/dogs). You can also set up a virtual fence, custom detection zones, and get alerts for abnormal sounds like glass breaking.
- 360° Coverage, Wi-Fi 6 & Clear Two-Way Talk: Get a complete view with 360° horizontal and 107° vertical pan-tilt control. Enjoy stable, smooth streaming thanks to Wi-Fi 6. Communicate clearly with family through high-quality two-way voice calls using the built-in large-diameter speaker.
- Easy Setup, Flexible Storage & Voice Control: Set up in three simple steps via the Xiaomi Home app. Choose storage flexibility with a microSD card (8-256GB, not included) or cloud service. Conveniently view live footage using voice commands through compatible Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant devices.
AI tracking should therefore be treated as a convenience feature rather than a guaranteed security system. Tracking can fail when a person or pet leaves the camera’s physical field of view, passes behind furniture, overlaps with another subject, moves quickly or enters poor lighting. Shadows, reflections, televisions and changing daylight can also produce false motion or sound alerts.
The camera cannot follow someone outside the room, through a closed door or beyond its pan-and-tilt range. Nor does detection equal verified identity or professional-grade surveillance. It should not be considered a replacement for a monitored alarm service or emergency-response system.
HyperOS and Xiaomi Home integration
The camera is described as working with Xiaomi’s HyperOS and broader Xiaomi Home ecosystem. In practical terms, that means remote viewing and smart-device connectivity through Xiaomi’s software and compatible Xiaomi devices, including phones, tablets and TVs in supported configurations. Some reports also mention Xiaomi’s connected-car ecosystem. Coverage of the launch and additional reporting describe this ecosystem connection.
That should not be read as confirmation that the camera runs a full standalone HyperOS interface or that every HyperOS feature works in every country. Buyers should verify:

- Which Xiaomi Home app version and account region are required.
- Whether China-market firmware can be added to a non-China Xiaomi Home region.
- Which AI functions and notifications are available outside mainland China.
- Whether Alexa or Google Assistant support applies to this model specifically.
- Whether cloud recording and NAS features are region-dependent.
Related Xiaomi camera pages show that regional support and defaults can vary. For example, Xiaomi says some AI functions on the C700 may be disabled by default, while the UK C701 page includes a notification qualification. Those details should not automatically be transferred to the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition.
Storage: microSD, cloud or NAS?
The reported storage options provide three different trade-offs:
- microSD: avoids a recurring cloud fee and is simple to install, but footage can be overwritten and the card can be stolen or damaged. A high-endurance surveillance-rated card is preferable to a basic consumer card.
- Cloud storage: provides off-site backup if the camera or card is damaged, but introduces subscription costs, account dependence and additional privacy questions. Pricing and regional plans were not confirmed for this model.
- NAS backup: gives experienced users more control over recordings, but requires a compatible NAS, network configuration and ongoing maintenance.
H.265 encoding can reduce storage requirements compared with older codecs, although playback compatibility varies between devices and software. A 4K stream can still consume more bandwidth and storage than 2K or 1080p video. Wi-Fi 6 may help on a crowded network, but a congested wireless environment can still cause buffering, delayed remote viewing or missed uploads.
Privacy and security questions remain important
An indoor camera can record bedrooms, living areas, children and visitors, so its privacy controls matter as much as its resolution. The available launch material does not confirm whether the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition has a physical privacy shutter, which parts of its AI processing run locally, what encryption implementation it uses, where cloud recordings are stored or how long they are retained.

- Unmatched 3.5K UHD Clarity with Superior Low-Light Vision: Experience ultra-sharp monitoring with Xiaomi's first 6MP indoor camera, featuring a 3.5K UHD (3200x1800) resolution and a large 1/2.45-inch sensor for vivid detail. The ultra-low-light full-color imaging and eight non-glow 940nm infrared lights ensure clear, colorful footage at dusk and detailed visibility in total darkness.
- Flagship AI Chip for Accurate Human & Pet Tracking: Powered by a 1TOPS high-performance AI chip for fast local processing. It intelligently detects and automatically tracks humans or pets (cats/dogs), sending instant notifications to your phone. Minimize false alarms with precise, local AI algorithms.

Your data is protected by an MJA1 security chip with a unique key and multi-layer cloud encryption, ensuring financial-grade security.
- Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 & Smart HyperOS Ecosystem Integration: Ensure stable, smooth HD streaming with advanced dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. Unlock a smarter home by connecting to Xiaomi HyperOS, enabling scenes like automatic lens shielding in "I'm Home" mode or turning on lights when a person is detected.
- 360° Panoramic View, Clear 2-Way Talk & Flexible Storage: Get complete coverage with the 360° horizontal and 116° vertical dual-motor pan-tilt. Communicate clearly via high-quality two-way voice calls. Choose from three storage options: microSD card (8-256GB, not included), cloud storage, or NAS.
Xiaomi advertises physical lens shielding, local AI processing, encrypted transmission and a security chipset on related models such as the Smart Camera C700 and Smart Camera C701 Pro. Those features should not be assumed to exist on the 4 Zoom Edition until Xiaomi confirms them for this exact product.
Before installing any indoor camera, use a strong unique Xiaomi account password, enable available two-factor authentication, limit account sharing, keep firmware updated and position the camera away from spaces that do not need monitoring. Check whether recordings are encrypted, whether individual family permissions are available and whether cloud storage can be disabled.

How it compares with Xiaomi’s other indoor cameras
Xiaomi Smart Camera C700
The C700 is a useful comparison for buyers who want 4K and pan-tilt coverage without a dedicated telephoto lens. Xiaomi’s official page lists an 8MP camera, 4K imaging, AI detection and tracking, Wi-Fi 6, local AI processing, physical lens shielding, 360-degree horizontal movement and 110-degree vertical movement. It is likely the simpler choice for a small or medium room where a wide-angle view is sufficient. It does not offer the same reported optical zoom design.
See Xiaomi’s official C700 specifications.
Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 Pro
The C701 Pro is particularly relevant because Xiaomi’s official page documents a dual 8MP/5MP camera system, 9x hybrid zoom, adaptive-speed tracking and 360-degree horizontal and 180-degree vertical coverage. It also lists Xiaomi Home control and physical lens shielding. This suggests that buyers seeking a currently documented Xiaomi zoom camera should compare the C701 Pro carefully rather than assuming the 4 Zoom Edition is Xiaomi’s newest or most advanced model.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRegional availability, warranty and feature support still need to be checked for the buyer’s country. See the official C701 Pro page.
Xiaomi Smart Camera C701
The UK C701 page confirms 4K, Wi-Fi 6, Xiaomi Home integration and AI detection features. It may be a more practical alternative where Xiaomi sells it officially, especially for buyers who prioritise local support. Xiaomi also notes that some AI functions are disabled by default and provides a notification qualification, showing why regional product pages and settings matter.
Who should consider the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition?
It is worth watching if you:
- Need to monitor a large room where people or pets may move far from the camera.
- Want a telephoto lens rather than purely digital enlargement.
- Already use Xiaomi Home or other Xiaomi smart-home products.
- Want local microSD recording alongside possible cloud or NAS backup.
- Can accept China-market availability and verify compatibility before importing.
It is a poor fit if you:
- Need outdoor surveillance or professional monitoring.
- Require a local warranty and guaranteed regional software support.
- Do not want an indoor camera linked to a cloud account or connected ecosystem.
- Have unreliable Wi-Fi or a small room where a basic 1080p or 2K wide-angle camera is enough.
- Need independently tested tracking accuracy, latency or night performance before buying.
Verdict
The Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition is technically notable because its reported dual-camera design brings 3x optical zoom to Xiaomi’s indoor range, while 4K resolution and AI tracking make distant subjects easier to monitor. But the 9x figure is hybrid rather than optical, the AI claims have not been independently validated, and the initial launch was China-focused through Youpin.
For Xiaomi users comfortable with import risks, it could be a useful camera for large indoor spaces, pets, nurseries or open-plan rooms. For everyone else, the sensible approach is to wait for an official regional listing, confirmed privacy and software details, and independent testing—or compare an officially supported model such as the C700, C701 or C701 Pro.
