The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ combines vacuuming, dual rotating mop pads, automatic dust emptying, mop washing, air-drying, laser mapping, and app-based room cleaning in one system. Its main drawbacks are the large dock, ongoing maintenance, modest stain-removal ability, app and network dependence for advanced features, and uncertain value for buyers relying on imports—particularly in the United States.
What the Xiaomi X20+ actually automates
The X20+ is more than a robot vacuum with a water tank. After it cleans, it can return to its station, empty its onboard dustbin, wash its two mop pads, air-dry them, and recharge. It can also resume a cleaning job after charging.

- It vacuums, mops, or performs both tasks.
- It returns to the dock when its battery or cleaning cycle requires it.
- The dock automatically collects dust from the robot.
- The dock washes the rotating mop pads.
- The dock air-dries the pads.
- The robot recharges and can resume cleaning.
This reduces the most repetitive parts of robot-cleaner ownership, but it does not make the system maintenance-free. You still need to refill clean water, empty dirty water, replace dust bags, clean filters and brushes, inspect the dock tray, and remove hair from moving parts.
Vacuuming performance: strong specifications, sensible expectations
Xiaomi rates the X20+ at up to 6,000Pa of suction. It uses a main brush, side brush, onboard dust compartment, and automatic dust collection. The Xiaomi Home/Mi Home app provides silent, standard, strong, and turbo vacuum settings, according to independent testing.

That combination is suitable for routine dust, crumbs, hair, and everyday debris on hard floors and low-pile carpet. TechRadar found the tested vacuuming performance on the strong setting comparable with considerably more expensive models and named the X20+ its best budget robot vacuum in the UK. That is useful independent evidence, but it is not a guarantee for every floor, home, or cleaning schedule.
Pa figures alone do not establish whole-home cleaning quality. Brush design, airflow, floor texture, navigation, repeated passes, hair tangling, and software settings all matter. The X20+ should therefore be viewed as a strong-value maintenance cleaner rather than proof that it will outperform every competing robot.
Mopping: convenient for maintenance, not deep scrubbing
The robot uses two rotating mop pads. Xiaomi claims a rotation speed of 180 revolutions per minute, and the dock automatically washes the pads after cleaning. This is more useful than a robot that simply drags a damp cloth across the floor.

In practical terms, the X20+ is best suited to dust films, footprints, light kitchen residue, and regular hard-floor maintenance. TechRadar described its mopping as decent for light cleaning but less effective against difficult messes. Dried spills, thick grease, heavy mud, and sticky food may still require manual treatment.
Automatic pad washing reduces the likelihood of repeatedly spreading the same dirty pad around the home, but the dock itself can accumulate dirty water, residue, and odor. It still needs periodic cleaning.
How it handles carpet and rugs
Xiaomi says the mop pads can lift by up to 7mm. The app can be configured for carpeted areas, but Xiaomi recommends selecting “Avoid carpets” when carpet is thicker than 5mm because lifted pads may still touch it.

Mop lifting is not the same as removing the pads. Thin, firmly attached rugs may be manageable, while shaggy, tasseled, loose, dark, or thick rugs can cause navigation and cleaning problems. Check carpet boundaries in the generated map and supervise the first few cleaning cycles.
If your home is mostly thick carpet, the X20+ is a weaker choice. Its all-in-one mopping dock offers little benefit if you must constantly exclude large areas or rescue the robot from rugs.
Navigation and obstacle avoidance
The X20+ uses LDS laser navigation to scan its surroundings and create mapped routes. It also uses S-Cross structured-light obstacle avoidance and front sensors intended to detect low obstacles. The app supports whole-home, room, and zone cleaning, as well as multi-floor maps and scheduled cleaning.
These systems should improve route planning, but “obstacle avoidance” does not mean the robot reliably recognizes every sock, cable, toy, shoelace, pet accident, or small object. Xiaomi recommends following the robot during its first cleaning and removing items that could interfere with mapping.
Before running it, clear cables, clothing, small toys, and loose strings. A robot vacuum is not a substitute for pet-proofing or child-proofing a room. Homes with frequent floor clutter may not receive the advertised convenience.

App, Wi-Fi, and voice controls
The Xiaomi Home/Mi Home app handles quick map creation, room and zone selection, multi-floor maps, cleaning modes, schedules, remote control, firmware updates, and dock self-cleaning functions. The four principal cleaning modes are:
- Vacuuming before mopping
- Vacuuming only
- Mopping only
- Vacuuming and mopping together
Alexa and Google Assistant voice control are advertised, but availability depends on the country, language, supported device, app region, and firmware.
The X20+ can perform basic cleaning without a network connection, according to Xiaomi support documentation. Advanced functions—including mapping, path planning, multi-floor maps, resume cleaning, and switching cleaning modes—require the app and network connection. It is therefore not a fully offline robot.
Dimensions: measure the dock, not just the robot
The robot measures 350 × 350 × 97mm. The all-in-one station measures 586 × 427 × 340mm. The station is substantially larger than the robot and needs a level, stable location near a power outlet.

Do not assume the robot will fit beneath furniture simply because its height is 97mm; the dock may not. TechRadar also criticized the base as large and visually bulky.

Measure the intended location before ordering. A dock that is difficult to access undermines the automation that makes the X20+ attractive.
Recommended first-day setup
- Verify the regional model first. The global specification page lists a 220–240V, 50/60Hz station input, while Xiaomi regional pages show different electrical configurations. Confirm the exact model number, voltage, plug, warranty, and seller before opening an imported unit.
- Place the dock on a level hard surface with clear access.
- Install the dust bag and mop pads, then fill the clean-water tank according to the regional manual.
- Install Xiaomi Home/Mi Home and select the correct region.
- Pair the robot and install any available firmware update.
- Clear cables, clothing, toys, and other loose objects.
- Run a supervised mapping or cleaning cycle.
- Rename rooms, correct room divisions, mark carpeted areas, and add no-go zones or virtual walls.
- Use vacuum-before-mopping when debris is present, and schedule routine vacuuming for maintenance.
After setup, the app should show a map and allow room, zone, and cleaning-mode selection. If only basic cleaning is available, the robot may not be fully connected or may be operating without network access.
If pairing fails, confirm the phone and robot are using a compatible Wi-Fi network, move the robot closer to the dock and router, restart the robot, app, and router, and remove and re-add the device. Imported units may require the seller or regional support team rather than a generic reset.
Maintenance: low effort, not zero effort
The dock removes several chores, but it creates its own maintenance routine:
- Refill the clean-water tank.
- Empty the dirty-water tank.
- Replace the dust bag when full.
- Clean the removable dock tray and check for standing water.
- Rinse or clean the mop pads as needed.
- Remove hair from the main brush and side brush.
- Clean the filter.
- Wipe sensors and charging contacts.
- Check wheels for tangled fibers.
The manual guidance cited in the research recommends cleaning the filter about every two weeks and replacing it every three to six months. Treat those as baselines: pets, heavy dust, and frequent cleaning may require shorter intervals.

Xiaomi’s headline dust-bag claim of up to 75 days comes from a controlled test involving a 100m² carpeted home, two occupants, daily returns to the dock, and periodic bag-volume measurements. It is not a normal-household guarantee. Actual life depends on floor area, pets, occupants, debris, and cleaning frequency.
Do not add detergent, disinfectant, bleach, essential oils, or generic cleaning fluid to the clean-water tank unless the exact regional manual permits it. Use only approved fluids and consumables for your model.
Regional buying warning
The X20+ is most compelling when sold locally with a sensible price, usable warranty, and accessible replacement parts. Availability is primarily associated with the UK and Europe in the independent coverage cited here. U.S. buyers may encounter import listings at substantially higher prices.
Before buying an imported unit, confirm:
- Exact model number and regional version
- Station voltage and plug type
- Warranty territory and repair process
- Seller return policy
- Compatibility with your Xiaomi app region
- Availability of dust bags, filters, brushes, and mop pads
- Whether replacement parts are genuinely compatible rather than merely similar in appearance
Do not assume that a global listing is electrically interchangeable with a U.S. model. The global specification page lists 220–240V input, while regional pages show different configurations. Also avoid judging value by a European price if your actual purchase involves shipping, taxes, limited returns, and uncertain support. No single current price applies across regions; check the exact authorized seller on the day you buy.
Alternatives by household need

- Buyers who can obtain a regionally compatible unit with dependable warranty support
Look elsewhere if
- You need dependable performance on thick or shaggy carpet.
- Your floors regularly contain cables, toys, loose rugs, or clutter.
- You expect dried or sticky stains to disappear without manual work.
- You want a fully offline appliance.
- You are importing without clear voltage, parts, warranty, or returns.
- You want hot-water mop washing or heated drying; the cited specifications describe air-drying, not hot-air drying.
- You are unwilling to clean tanks, filters, brushes, pads, and the dock.
Verdict
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ offers unusually extensive automation for a budget-oriented robot: automatic dust collection, mop washing, air-drying, rotating pads, laser mapping, and room-level control. It is a strong candidate for hard-floor homes that want consistent daily upkeep without paying for a higher-end system.
Buy it when the local price is competitive and the exact regional model has reliable warranty and consumable support. Choose a U.S.-market Roborock or Narwal instead when domestic returns and parts matter more than feature density. Choose the X20 Pro if your carpet, battery, or performance needs justify the premium. In every case, measure the dock first and expect routine maintenance—the X20+ reduces cleaning work, but it does not eliminate ownership chores.
