Apple appears to be developing a tabletop AI companion robot, but it has not announced the product. Current reporting describes something closer to an iPad-like display mounted on a motorized arm than a walking robot pet. The reported target is 2027—not a confirmed release date.
So the nostalgic “robo-pet” comparison is useful, but only up to a point. Apple may be trying to make Siri feel physically present in the home, rather than building an AIBO-style animal that roams, plays and behaves like a pet.

- New size, more viewing area: The 11“ smart display features a vibrant Full-HD touchscreen with 60% more viewing area versus Echo Show 8 (2025 release), built-in smart home hub, AZ3 Pro chip for powerful performance, and Omnisense technology for highly personalized experiences.
- Content looks and sounds incredible: Watch shows on Prime Video, Netflix, and more on the vibrant Full-HD 11" screen and enjoy room-filling spatial audio, crisper vocals, wider sound stage, and up to 2x bass versus Echo Show 8 (2023 release). With Alexa+, find the name of that song you love and discover new shows based on your preferences.
- Your everyday assistant: The 11" display makes it easy to see recipes and calendars at a glance, find meal inspo, and manage your shopping lists. With Alexa+, find recipes based on foods you love, make reservations, order groceries, and more.
- Simple Smart Home control: Pair and control thousands of devices that work with Alexa without needing a separate smart home hub. Easily view your camera feeds. Manage lights, thermostats, and more using the display or your voice. With Omnisense technology, you can activate routines via temperature, presence, or visual ID detection.
- Crystal-clear video calls: Video calls feel natural on the vibrant 11" screen with a centered, auto-framing camera, 3.3x zoom, and noise reduction technology. Use live view to check in on your family, pets, and more while you're away.
A screen that turns toward you could create some of that effect. Instead of answering from an invisible speaker, it could look in the direction of the person talking, move during a conversation and provide an expressive visual response. That physical reaction may make an assistant feel more like a character in the room.
But this is not evidence that Apple is making a robot dog or a modern AIBO successor. The reported product would likely stay on a table. Its “pet-like” quality would come from movement, voice, animation and conversation—not from walking on four legs or exploring the house.
What Apple is reportedly building
Bloomberg reporting describes a tabletop robot with a display comparable in concept to a small iPad, attached to a movable robotic arm or base. The mechanism may rotate, tilt or extend so the display can face whoever is speaking.
That design matters. A stationary smart display already shows information and responds to voice commands. The arm would add the product’s most distinctive behavior: it could orient itself toward a speaker and physically react to an exchange.
Reported possibilities include conversational answers, visual responses, reminders and home-control functions. Apple could also give the device a recognizable personality through voice, animation and movement. Those are reasonable interpretations of the reported concept, not confirmed specifications.
Apple has not confirmed a screen size, processor, camera system, operating system, battery, subscription plan, smart-home compatibility list or final industrial design. Prototype details can change, and a reported project can be delayed, simplified or cancelled.

Robot pet or smart display?
| Apple’s reported device | Traditional robot pet | |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Likely movement of a display or arm | The whole body may walk, roll, wag or react |
| Main purpose | AI assistant and home companion | Emotional attachment and pet simulation |
| Physical range | Probably remains on a table | May roam around a room |
| Interaction | Voice, screen, orientation and Siri | Touch, movement, sounds, games and personality |
| Availability | Rumored and unreleased | Products are available now |
The most accurate description is therefore “a robotic AI home companion” or “a smart display with a moving arm.” Calling it Apple’s robot dog would overstate what has been reported.
What Siri AI could contribute
Apple officially announced its next-generation Siri AI on June 8, 2026. Apple says the assistant is being designed to understand personal context, see onscreen content, answer questions using broad world knowledge and take actions across apps.
Apple also says the system combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute. That architecture could be important for a home device handling personal information, conversations and household requests.
However, Siri AI’s announcement does not confirm the robot. Apple has announced the software assistant, not a robotic product that uses it. Apple says Siri AI is expected to enter beta later in 2026 for supported devices and languages, with regional limitations. The company has also said it will not initially be available in China while it addresses regulatory requirements.
If the robot depends heavily on Siri AI, those language, device and regional limitations could affect where and when the hardware is useful.

The reported robot fits a wider Apple home strategy. Bloomberg has also reported a nearer-term push involving a home hub, refreshed Apple TV hardware and an updated HomePod mini. Those products should not be confused with the later robotic companion.

A physical AI device could give Apple several advantages:
- More natural shared-space interaction: A household could speak to one visible device rather than rely on one person’s phone.
- A stronger sense of presence: Movement, animation and eye-line orientation could make Siri feel less like a hidden service.
- Home integration: The device could potentially coordinate reminders, media, calls and compatible smart-home controls.
- A way to distinguish Apple’s AI: A physical companion could feel different from a chatbot confined to a screen.
These are strategic possibilities, not confirmed features. The central business question is whether a moving display offers enough extra value over an iPad, HomePod or conventional smart display to justify its cost and complexity.
Why the idea could fail
A robotic arm adds motors, gears, sensors and mechanical failure points. It may also create noise and require a stable table with sufficient clearance. A family with children or pets would need to consider whether the device could be knocked over, damaged or treated as a toy.

There is also a novelty problem. Turning toward a speaker may be charming at first, but the product would need useful daily functions to avoid becoming an expensive decoration. If it mainly answers questions and swivels a screen, a conventional display could deliver most of the utility more simply.
Privacy would deserve close attention. A home robot could include microphones and cameras, while Siri’s personal-context features may make the system more deeply connected to household information. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute claims are relevant to the software architecture, but they do not establish the final robot’s camera controls, recording policies, household permissions or data practices.
Cloud dependence is another risk. If core intelligence requires an online account or service, future software changes, outages or discontinuation could affect the device’s usefulness.

What you can buy now
Sony aibo: the premium robot pet
Sony’s ERS-1000 aibo is a genuine companion robot rather than a rumored product. Sony describes it as developing an evolving personality through interaction.
The U.S. price listed in the supplied research is $3,199.99, including a three-year AI Cloud Plan. Sony lists renewal of the plan at $300 for 12 months. That makes aibo a serious long-term purchase rather than an inexpensive novelty.
Aibo is the better fit for someone who specifically wants lifelike movement and a dedicated robotic pet. It is a poor fit for buyers who dislike subscriptions or want a general-purpose home assistant. Sony’s U.S. listings also say aibo is final sale and unavailable for sale or use in Illinois and Baltimore, Maryland.
KEYi Loona: a lower-cost interactive companion
KEYi Loona is marketed as an AI petbot with games, voice interaction, expressive behavior and companion functions. Official U.S. listings in the supplied research placed pricing roughly between $499 and $550, depending on the model or bundle, with some promotions and variants ranging more broadly.
The official listing included a one-year warranty and lifetime customer support. A charging dock was listed separately at $79 on one U.S. product page.

Loona is the more accessible choice for families and buyers who want a playful robot companion without aibo’s price. It should not be treated as equivalent to Apple’s ecosystem, nor assumed to provide the capabilities of a full home assistant.

Amazon Astro: useful context, not a current recommendation
Amazon announced Astro in 2021 as a mobile home robot combining Alexa-style assistance and monitoring. Its announced price was $1,449.99, with a $999.99 introductory Day 1 Editions price.
The available source is an announcement page rather than a current retail listing. Astro is therefore best treated as historical context, not as a confirmed product readers can buy today.
Should you wait for Apple?
- Wait if you want Apple integration: There is no confirmed price, preorder or buying page, so waiting means accepting substantial uncertainty.
- Buy Loona if you want a playful companion now: It has a much lower entry price and emphasizes expressive, interactive behavior.
- Consider aibo if you want a premium robot pet: Its personality and movement are closer to the traditional robo-pet idea, but the cost, cloud plan and regional restrictions matter.
- Choose a conventional smart-home device if you mainly want utility: A smart display, HomePod or Apple Home setup may be more sensible than a mechanical companion.
- Do not assume Apple’s device will patrol your home: Current reporting describes a tabletop robot, not a roaming security or household robot.
The real opportunity for Apple
Apple may be pursuing a compromise between a stationary assistant and a fully autonomous robot. A display that turns and reacts can create a sense of life without requiring the far harder engineering needed for safe navigation, object manipulation and whole-home mobility.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →That could make the product more commercially realistic. It could also make the marketing more exciting than the underlying capability. The final question will be whether physical presence changes how often people use Siri—or merely makes a familiar smart display more expensive.
Verdict
Apple’s rumored home robot could satisfy part of the ’90s fantasy of a computer companion with a personality. But the available evidence points to a tabletop AI display on a moving arm, not a walking pet, robot dog or autonomous household helper.
For now, Apple fans should treat 2027 as a reported target, not a release date. If you want a real robot pet today, Loona offers the lower-cost entry point and aibo the more premium experience. If what you want is Apple’s version specifically, the sensible move is to wait for an official announcement—and see whether the finished product is genuinely companion-like or simply a very animated smart display.
