It is not a flawless hands-off cleaner, however: small cables and objects can still be missed, dried stains challenge its rotating mop pads, the dock and consumables add ownership costs, and its launch positioning was closer to upper-mid-range or premium than budget.
It makes the most sense at a substantial sale price for homes with hard or mixed floors, pets, frequent crumbs and enough space for a large dock. Buyers should check the regional model carefully, particularly when considering an imported unit.

What is the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro?
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro is an all-in-one robot vacuum and mop. It combines 360-degree LiDAR/dToF laser navigation with a retractable radar tower, dual rotating mop pads, automatic dust emptying, hot-water mop washing, warm-air drying and Xiaomi Home app control.
The Pro version’s main distinction from the standard Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 is its camera-based AI obstacle and dirt-recognition system. The standard model shares much of the core vacuuming, mopping, laser-navigation and dock platform but lacks the Pro’s front camera hardware and related AI features, according to Computer Bild’s comparison.

Xiaomi also supports optional Alexa and Google Assistant integration. Camera features, including AI recognition, video management and real-scene photos, are disabled by default and need to be enabled in Xiaomi Home.
Price: is it really mid-range?
That depends on the market and the price you actually pay. Tech Advisor reported a UK recommended retail price of £799.99, while observing prices of £655.99 from Xiaomi and £622.99 from Amazon when its review was written. Computer Bild and Frandroid placed the European recommended price at approximately €800.
Those figures are UK and EU launch-era signals from early 2026, not a verified current US price. Check the relevant regional Xiaomi store and retailer listing before buying. At around £800 or €800, calling the 5 Pro “budget” is misleading. A better description is upper-mid-range pricing with several premium conveniences.
The Pro’s value improves considerably when discounted below its launch-level price, but compare the saving with the standard Robot Vacuum 5 and current Roborock, Dreame, MOVA, ECOVACS and Narwal models. Include replacement dust bags, filters, brushes, mop pads and cleaning solution in that comparison.
Design, clearance and the dock
The robot is approximately 35 × 35 × 8.8cm according to Tech Advisor’s specifications. Its retractable radar tower is designed to let it enter areas higher than 9.5cm, while Xiaomi claims it can cross obstacles up to 20mm high. These are useful capabilities, but neither figure guarantees access under every bed, sofa or threshold.
Published measurements can vary by method, so measure the lowest obstruction in your home rather than relying only on the product name or a retailer listing. Notebookcheck found that the robot could still refuse to enter a bed area with approximately 12cm of clearance, apparently because of its navigation logic. Physical height and software confidence are separate limitations.
The station is roughly 26 × 36 × 57cm in Tech Advisor’s specification. Allow room for the dock, its water tanks and the robot to approach and leave it. The dock:
- empties the robot’s dust bin into a disposable bag;
- washes the mop pads with hot water;
- dries the pads with warm air;
- stores clean and dirty water separately; and
- returns the robot to charging between tasks.
Xiaomi claims a final mop rinse above 80°C, more than 99% pad drying after two hours and more than 75 days of dust collection. These are manufacturer test results: the dust-bag figure relates to a specified 120m2 home with three people and one pet, so actual intervals will vary.

The dock is one of the 5 Pro’s greatest conveniences, particularly for households that mop frequently. It does not eliminate maintenance. You still need to refill clean water, empty dirty water, clean the washboard and drainage area, and replace the dust bag. Disposable bags may improve containment, but they add recurring expense and waste.
Vacuuming performance
Xiaomi rates the 5 Pro at up to 20,000Pa suction, with a 5,200mAh battery and up to 140 minutes of runtime in a specified Vacuuming and Mopping/Standard-mode test. Xiaomi also claims more than 99% hair pickup after two passes under its own test conditions.
Pa is not a complete cleaning-performance score. Brush design, airflow, floor type, navigation, suction mode and the number of passes all affect how much debris reaches the bin. The 20,000Pa figure should therefore be treated as a manufacturer air-pressure claim, not proof that the robot automatically outcleans every competitor.
In practice, the 5 Pro is strong at routine cleaning. It is well suited to hard floors, crumbs, dust, pet-hair tumbleweeds and everyday tracked-in debris. The extending side brush helps it reach edges and corners more effectively than a robot that leaves a larger perimeter untouched.
Independent testing supports the general high-performance verdict. In Computer Bild’s test using cat litter, oats and similar debris, the Pro collected slightly more than the standard model’s reported average of 94g. However, Computer Bild also found that Xiaomi did not quite match the cleaning results of some Roborock, Dreame and MOVA competitors.
For demanding debris, use the deeper cleaning or higher suction settings. The trade-off is noise: Tech Advisor found maximum suction noticeably louder. Higher power also reduces the practical runtime, especially on carpets or when mopping at the same time.
Mopping: convenient, but not a floor scrubber
The 5 Pro uses two rotating mop pads rather than simply dragging a damp cloth behind it. Xiaomi says the pads can lift by up to 15mm when carpets are detected, and the mop assembly can extend towards edges.

This design is effective for fresh marks, ordinary floor dirt and the daily residue that accumulates in kitchens and hallways. Edge reach is a particular strength. The dock’s automatic washing and drying also means the pads are more likely to be clean and ready for the next run.

Do not confuse mop automation with scrubbing power. Computer Bild found the mopping solid but reported that stubborn stains exposed a lack of downward pressure. A dried spill may require manual treatment, while a rival using a more aggressive roller-mop or stronger mechanical pressure may remove it more effectively.
For long-pile carpets, configure carpet behaviour manually. Xiaomi provides options including vacuum-only, carpet avoidance, carpet crossing and ignoring carpets. Xiaomi recommends carpet avoidance for long-pile carpet where reliable protection from moisture is important. Notebookcheck reported that the robot climbed onto one long-pile carpet and struggled audibly, while it ignored a flatter raffia doormat.
Obstacle avoidance: a meaningful advantage, not perfection
The Pro’s front sensor package includes an RGB camera, two infrared cameras and a 3D infrared dot projector. Xiaomi claims recognition of more than 200 common obstacles and approximately 47 types of dirt, with automatic lighting intended to assist in low-light conditions.

This is more sophisticated than the standard model’s simpler sensing. Tech Advisor described the obstacle avoidance as brilliant in testing, including around small objects such as a sock and matchbox. But Notebookcheck found missed Lego pieces, a coin and a cable beneath a sofa. It also reported that the robot could be cautious around narrow spaces and sometimes avoided areas it could physically enter.
Do not rely on it to identify every:
- thin, dark or transparent cable;
- tiny toy, coin or building piece;
- reflective or low-contrast object;
- liquid spill or transparent liquid; or
- pet accident.
The safest approach is to tidy dangerous objects before scheduled cleaning and supervise the first week in each room. Camera-assisted recognition reduces risk; it does not make the robot safe to leave around pet waste, wet spills or valuable small items without preparation.
Mapping and navigation
The Xiaomi Home app supports room division, room merging and splitting, multiple maps, virtual walls, restricted areas, room-specific schedules, furniture and floor-covering labels, and resume-after-recharge cleaning.
Reviewers generally found the mapping quick and precise. The first map may still need editing: Tech Advisor reported that carpets and rugs were not always identified correctly, while Notebookcheck observed cautious movement in narrow areas and reluctance to enter some under-bed spaces. Computer Bild also reported occasional orientation problems in complex corners, although the Pro docked more confidently than the standard model in its testing.

For reliable routines, create no-go zones around pet bowls, loose cables and delicate furniture. Set carpet behaviour manually where automatic detection is uncertain, and use room-specific schedules rather than assuming one whole-home routine will suit every floor type.

App, camera and privacy
Xiaomi Home provides remote cleaning, scheduling, map editing, restricted areas and cleaning customisation. The Pro’s camera can support remote viewing and manual steering; Notebookcheck reports that remote control can be protected with a PIN.
These features are useful for checking a room or locating the robot, but remote viewing is also a privacy-sensitive function. Before enabling it, consider where the camera points, who can access the Xiaomi account and whether every household member is comfortable with the feature. Camera and AI functions are disabled by default according to Xiaomi.
Region selection matters. It can affect app features, servers, language and voice packs, firmware, accessories and support. Do not assume that a marketplace listing labelled “Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro” is the officially supported global edition.

The 5 Pro reduces daily intervention, but it is not maintenance-free. Expect to:
- replace or empty the disposable dust bag;
- refill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty-water tank;
- clean the dock’s washboard and drainage area;
- inspect the main and side brushes;
- remove hair from brush ends and wheel axles;
- wash or replace filters as directed by the regional manual;
- inspect mop pads for residue and wear; and
- keep cameras, LiDAR and other sensors clean.
Check the robot after cleaning around cables, rugs and thresholds. Notebookcheck found that spare parts were not included and that correctly labelled replacement parts could be difficult to locate through the Xiaomi Store. Before purchase, confirm that your regional Xiaomi store or an authorised supplier stocks bags, filters, brushes and mop pads.
The total cost is therefore the purchase price plus consumables, electricity, cleaning products and the value of your time. The disposable-bag dock is convenient and potentially better for containing fine dust, but it costs more to run than a reusable dust-bin system.
Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro versus Robot Vacuum 5
The standard Robot Vacuum 5 is the more logical choice for a tidy home where floors are usually clear. The Pro’s premium primarily buys camera-assisted AI obstacle recognition and related camera features, rather than an entirely different cleaning platform.

Choose the standard model when the price difference is substantial and you already clear the floor before every run. The Pro’s cleaning advantage alone may not justify a large premium for an uncluttered home.
Who should buy it?
Buy the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro if:
- You want strong routine vacuuming and automated mopping in one system.
- Your home has hard or mixed floors, pets, hair and frequent crumbs.
- You value better-than-basic obstacle avoidance and remote app control.
- Hot-water mop washing and warm-air drying matter to you.
- You have space for a tall, wide dock.
- You can buy the officially supported regional model at a meaningful discount.
Reconsider it if:
- Your priority is the strongest possible dried-stain removal.
- You have many thick or high-pile rugs.
- Your furniture has low clearance or your home has awkward thresholds.
- You dislike disposable dust bags or need inexpensive reusable parts.
- You are uncomfortable with an indoor camera.
- You expect completely hands-off cleaning around liquids or pet accidents.
- You are considering an imported China-region unit without verified app, warranty, voltage, firmware and accessory compatibility.
Final verdict
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro earns its “high performance” reputation more through the combination of strong everyday vacuuming, useful edge cleaning, intelligent mapping and excellent dock automation than through its headline 20,000Pa figure alone. Its rotating mops handle routine dirt well, but they are not the best answer for stubborn stains; its AI avoidance is valuable, but cables and tiny objects still demand sensible preparation.
At a substantial discount, it is a compelling upper-mid-range choice for hard-floor and mixed-floor homes. Near its approximately £800/€800 launch positioning, compare it closely with current premium competitors, particularly if you prioritise aggressive mopping, smaller docks, easier spare-part sourcing or stronger regional support.
