The original model launched in China in 2023, with a 5-liter reservoir, app control, selectable holding temperatures and preset dispensing. Xiaomi also introduced a separate Mijia Smart Electric Kettle Pro 5L in China in June 2026. This guide separates the two models, explains the electrical and regional limitations, and shows who should—and should not—buy one.
Quick verdict
- Best for: Families, offices and frequent tea, coffee or warm-water users who want a large reservoir and repeat dispensing.
- Less suitable for: Someone who boils one cup occasionally, has little counter space, or needs water filtration.
- Most important checks: Exact model number, voltage, Xiaomi Home regional support, warranty and cleaning access.
- Current status: The original Xiaomi Smart Electric Hot Water Dispenser 5L is listed in some global and regional catalogs. The newer Pro has China launch and preorder evidence, but no confirmed global launch in the available Xiaomi catalogs.
The original product is listed by Xiaomi as the Xiaomi Smart Electric Hot Water Dispenser 5L. “Kettle” and “hot-water bottle” are translations used in different markets, so compare model numbers and electrical ratings rather than relying on the product title.
What the original 5L model actually is
Unlike a conventional 1.5-liter kettle that you lift and pour, this appliance stays on the counter. It boils water, holds it at a selected temperature, cools or maintains it, and dispenses measured portions through a front outlet. The design is closer to a thermopot or temperature-controlled water dispenser.
Xiaomi’s global page describes a glass inner container, a 316 stainless-steel heating plate, a rigid water pipe and a 5-liter capacity. Xiaomi says the tank can supply up to 20 250-milliliter cups; actual output depends on the fill level, cleaning losses and water left below the minimum line.

How heating and temperature control work
Holding temperatures
The original model lets you select a temperature from 40°C to 90°C. Xiaomi illustrates 40°C for warm water, 50°C for honey water, 70°C for lemon tea, 85°C for herbal tea and 90°C for coffee. These are suggested settings, not proof of automatic beverage recognition.
Xiaomi says silicon-controlled rectifiers help regulate temperature more precisely and quietly. The claimed 18-minute time to boil 5 liters is a manufacturer result; starting temperature, fill level, altitude, ambient conditions and electrical supply can change it.
Extended boiling
A one-touch extended-boiling function is marketed as helping remove residual chlorine. Extended boiling is not filtration, sterilization or removal of every contaminant. If your concern is lead, PFAS, hardness or another specific contaminant, use treatment certified for that contaminant.

Dispensing and altitude
Preset portions of roughly 200mL, 300mL and 500mL reduce guesswork for drinks and cooking. Xiaomi also describes automatic boiling-point adjustment for altitude. The appliance includes a water-level indicator, a dispensing light that can work as a night light, an anti-scald handle and insulated construction.
Smart-home functions and setup limits
The Xiaomi Home app can be used to set the desired temperature, manage keep-warm behavior and control dispensing duration remotely. The EU documentation specifies 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz-only networking. During pairing, use a compatible 2.4GHz network; captive-portal and heavily restricted office networks may block setup.
Voice control should not be assumed everywhere. Xiaomi says compatible Google Assistant-enabled devices are required and that Google Assistant is unavailable in some countries, regions and languages. App features, account regions and firmware support can also vary by market.
Original model versus the 2026 Pro
The Mijia Smart Electric Kettle Pro 5L is a separate China-market product reported in June 2026. The following Pro details come from Gizmochina’s report, not an accessible global Xiaomi product page.

The Pro’s ±2°C performance, active circulation and other figures are reported claims, not independent test results. Xiaomi’s global and UK catalogs currently show the older model and smaller products such as the Smart Kettle 2 Pro, not a confirmed global Pro listing: global catalog and UK catalog.
Price and availability
Original model
Chinese coverage reported a September 2023 crowdfunding price of 269 yuan and a later full-channel launch price of 299 yuan. Those are historical China prices, not a current universal retail price. Xiaomi regional pricing can include different taxes, plugs, warranties and promotions. For example, Xiaomi Italy’s 2026 sale terms list an EU model price signal of €79.99 and a promotional €60.99 price for the campaign shown at its sale-terms page; that promotion should not be treated as a worldwide price.
2026 Pro
The reported 699-yuan China price (669 yuan preorder) is not a U.S. retail price. No official global buying page for the Pro is established here. Treat import-market listings as unconfirmed until voltage, plug, app region, warranty and return terms are clear.
Voltage, plug and Wi-Fi warnings
- The EU MEK01-EU documentation specifies 220–240V. A plug adapter changes the plug shape, not the voltage.
- A step-up transformer for a 1,600W heater can be large, hot, inefficient and unsuitable for some installations. Buying a model made for the local electrical system is safer and usually easier to warranty.
- Confirm that Xiaomi Home supports the appliance in your account region and that you can provide a 2.4GHz network during setup.
- Imported units may have Chinese or regional instructions, no local service, difficult-to-source parts and limited returns.
Materials, safety and cleaning
The original uses a glass inner container, 316 stainless-steel heating plate, rigid non-silicone water pipe, PP outer shell and insulating layers. It has an anti-scald handle, concealed lid-opening button and insulation intended to reduce surface temperature. These are design claims, not a guarantee that burns are impossible or that the appliance is medically certified for infant feeding.

Follow the regional manual for descaling, emptying and cleaning. A five-liter reservoir can leave warm water standing for long periods, so use sensible turnover and do not treat extended boiling as purification. The Pro’s reported removable tank could make cleaning easier, but that feature should not be transferred to the original model without model-specific confirmation.

Families and shared kitchens
The reservoir reduces repeated filling when several people need tea, coffee, cooking water or warm water throughout the day. Counter space and regular cleaning are the trade-offs.
Offices and frequent drink makers
Measured dispensing and app controls can be convenient in a shared kitchen, provided the network and account policies allow Xiaomi Home devices.
Parents and baby-related use
The temperature range may help prepare appropriately warm water, and reports say the Pro includes a baby-formula preset. Neither model independently makes water safe for infant feeding. Follow local health guidance and the formula manufacturer’s instructions.

Single users
If you make only one or two drinks a day, a smaller kettle is usually more practical and wastes less counter space and standby energy.
People who need filtration
This is a boiling, holding and dispensing appliance—not a substitute for a filter. Consider a filtered dispenser when contaminant reduction is the primary requirement.

Buying checklist
- Identify whether the listing is the original dispenser or the 2026 Pro.
- Match the model number, voltage, frequency and plug to your country.
- Confirm Xiaomi Home region support and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi compatibility.
- Check tank access, cleaning instructions, replacement parts and warranty.
- Price shipping, VAT, customs, reseller margin and return costs—not just the advertised yuan amount.
- Choose a filtered appliance instead if boiling alone does not address your water-quality concern.
Bottom line
Xiaomi’s 5L Mijia appliance makes sense when you need a large supply of temperature-controlled water and are prepared to keep a countertop reservoir clean. The original 2023 model is the one currently represented on Xiaomi’s global and regional pages; the 2026 Pro adds reported improvements such as 1°C control and a removable tank but remains a China-market purchase unless Xiaomi confirms a regional launch. For a U.S. buyer, the documented 220–240V EU version is not a plug-and-play option, and for occasional one-cup use a smaller kettle is the more proportionate choice.
