That is a historical launch price, not a current price. Xiaomi’s current global pages document a handheld garment steamer under model number MJGTJ02LF, with specifications that largely match the launch report, but they do not state that every regional version carries the “MIJIA Handheld Garment Steamer 2” name. This article separates what the launch report said, what Xiaomi’s own pages document, and what you should verify before buying.
What the 119-yuan launch price refers to
IT Home reported on March 6, 2024 that the steamer went on sale in China for 119 yuan. The product had first been offered through Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding and was then listed on JD.com, with sales starting at 10 a.m. on March 6, 2024. The headline’s “$17” is an approximate conversion made at the time of the report, not a current exchange-rate figure. Prices in other markets, and any price today, will differ.
The launch report lists these details: 730 g weight, folding storage, a ceramic-coated cast-aluminium panel, 30 kPa pressurisation, a 26-second preheat, a 160 mL visual water tank, and both vertical and horizontal ironing. Treat these as reported launch details. Where Xiaomi’s own pages give different figures, the sections below note the difference.

Which model you are looking at
Xiaomi’s global product pages use the name “Xiaomi Handheld Garment Steamer” and identify the model as MJGTJ02LF. The global product page and its specifications page describe a product whose parameters overlap with the China launch report.
The model number is the most reliable identifier. When you search a store or marketplace, use “Xiaomi handheld garment steamer MJGTJ02LF” and confirm the model on the box or the label on the unit before comparing specifications or prices.
Documented specifications compared across sources
The three sources below describe the same product family but are not identical. Values are shown exactly as each source states them.

Weight: which figure to use
There is no single weight that applies everywhere. The launch report gives 730 g, Xiaomi’s global product page reports a tested sample range around 770 g, and the India specifications list 775 g. If you are comparing units, check the weight in the listing for your market rather than relying on one published figure.
Electrical compatibility
The global specifications give 220–240 V AC at 50–60 Hz and 1300 W. Before you plug in a unit bought elsewhere, confirm that its voltage, frequency and plug type match your mains supply. Where the labelled voltage differs from your supply, use a suitable adapter or do not use the unit.

Xiaomi’s performance claims and the test conditions behind them
Xiaomi’s global product page attaches test conditions to its headline figures. Treat them as manufacturer-reported results, not independent testing by a reviewer, and read them as results under the stated conditions.
- 26-second heating: Xiaomi attributes this to tests by Lofans Labs, referenced as report QES/YL02811493-2024.
- 30 kPa steam pressure: Xiaomi describes this as the maximum pressure measured at the middle hole under its laboratory conditions. Its footnote gives a measured range of 0.3–0.35 bar and states that actual results may vary.
- 160 mL tank: This is a product claim. The footnote reports sampled tank volumes of 157 to 157.3 mL.
- Six shirts per full tank: In Xiaomi’s described test, six shirts were pressed without refilling. Xiaomi states that the result can vary with conditions and steaming efficiency.
- Up to 99.99% mite and bacteria removal: Xiaomi attributes this to testing by Vkan Certification & Testing Co., Ltd. (CVC) and names Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans as the test organisms. Xiaomi says the results are for reference only. This figure reflects a laboratory procedure under stated conditions. It is not a guarantee of household hygiene or a health outcome.

Xiaomi describes two methods. Hanging steaming, the vertical mode, suits lighter and thinner fabrics. Flat steaming, the horizontal mode, concentrates steam for thicker garments. Choose the mode according to the fabric and the garment’s weight rather than the mode you used last time.

Fabric rules from the manufacturer
- Leather: do not steam. Xiaomi’s product page is explicit on this point.
- Wool and synthetic fabrics: steam on the reverse side to avoid streaks or shine.
- Silk: cover the fabric with a soft cloth or towel so the hot panel does not touch it directly.
Safety while connected
The Xiaomi EU user guide states that the appliance is for household use and warns not to leave it unattended while it is connected to power. Follow the user guide supplied with your unit. Its wording varies by market. The EU guide is available at Xiaomi’s EU user guide (PDF).

Checking these points before purchase matters more than the launch price, because the price in the headline applies only to the 2024 China launch.
