Xiaomi launched the Mijia Giant Power Saving Air Conditioner 3HP in China on June 25, 2024. It is a wall-mounted inverter split system—not a floor-standing unit—listed for China pre-sale through Xiaomi Youpin at 4,299 yuan. Xiaomi says it can begin cooling in about 40 seconds, heating in about 80 seconds, and achieve an APF of 4.55. Those figures are launch claims rather than independently verified performance results, and there is no verified evidence in the available material that this specific model is sold or supported in the United States.
What Xiaomi actually launched
The product reported in the June 2024 announcement is a 3HP wall-mounted heating and cooling air conditioner for rooms of approximately 30–40 square metres. Its wall-mounted format delivers high capacity without taking up the floor space required by a cabinet-style air conditioner.

The unit is part of Xiaomi’s Mijia smart-home ecosystem and reportedly includes a matte-white finish, a circular LED display, automatic display-brightness adjustment, indoor and outdoor-unit cleaning functions, Mijia app control and Xiao Ai voice control.
“3HP” is an appliance capacity designation, not a direct equivalent to motor horsepower, tons or a fixed US BTU rating. Before installation, buyers still need the manufacturer’s cooling and heating capacities, electrical requirements, refrigerant information and installation specifications.

Rapid cooling and heating: what the numbers do—and do not—prove
Xiaomi claims approximately 40-second cooling and 80-second heating. These are best understood as timed startup or benchmark claims, not proof that an entire room will reach a comfortable target temperature in those times.

Those details are essential to interpreting a rapid-operation claim.
Real-world results will depend heavily on heat load. A well-insulated room with closed doors and moderate outdoor temperatures may cool much faster than a sun-exposed open-plan space with high ceilings, poor insulation or frequent air leakage. Inverter systems can deliver high output during pull-down and then modulate compressor speed as the target temperature approaches.
Heating is even more weather-dependent. At low outdoor temperatures, defrost cycles, humidity, insulation and the building’s heat loss affect both comfort and electricity use. Xiaomi’s claimed operating range of –35°C to 60°C should not be treated as proof that the unit maintains full rated capacity or efficiency at both extremes.
Efficiency: APF 4.55 in its Chinese context
The reported headline efficiency figure is an APF of 4.55. Xiaomi’s launch comparison placed that above the cited Chinese Grade 1 threshold of 4.20. APF is an annualized performance metric used in China; it should not be presented as a US SEER2, EER2 or HSPF2 rating, or converted directly into one.

Xiaomi also reportedly estimated annual savings of 578 kWh compared with newer Grade 3 models. That is a comparative company claim, not a guaranteed saving for every household. Actual consumption depends on:
- Local climate and electricity prices
- Cooling and heating hours
- Indoor temperature settings
- Insulation, windows and solar exposure
- Room size and occupancy
- Door and window leakage
- Filter cleanliness and installation quality
- Whether the system is correctly sized
For a US project, compare locally certified efficiency figures from competing heat pumps rather than treating APF 4.55 as a universal efficiency score.
Cleaning, noise and comfort features
The reported cleaning system uses high-temperature drying for the indoor unit and condensate-water rinsing for the outdoor unit. These functions may help reduce residual moisture and surface buildup, but they do not make the system maintenance-free.
Filters still need regular cleaning. Drain lines, coils, drain pans, electrical connections and refrigerant circuits may require inspection or professional service. Self-cleaning also does not prove that the appliance delivers clean indoor air or eliminates mould and odour. Any bacteria-removal claim should be read as a test-dependent marketing claim because the available report does not provide laboratory methodology or independent verification.

Smart-home control and regional limitations
The air conditioner reportedly supports remote control and status monitoring through the Mijia app, along with Xiao Ai voice control and coordination with compatible Xiaomi devices.

Imported appliances can be less straightforward than locally sold smart-home products. Buyers should verify whether the unit requires the China region in the Mijia app, whether Xiao Ai supports their language, whether firmware updates depend on Chinese cloud services and whether automations continue to work if internet access is lost.
The available evidence does not confirm support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Matter or Home Assistant. It also does not establish that the unit can be paired with every Xiaomi account worldwide.
Installation questions that must be answered first
The 4,299-yuan launch price does not answer the practical questions that determine whether the unit can be installed safely in another country. Obtain the official technical sheet before paying for an import and confirm:
- Voltage, frequency, phase and maximum current
- Breaker, wiring and dedicated-circuit requirements
- Cooling and heating capacity in recognised local units
- Refrigerant type and handling requirements
- Indoor and outdoor-unit dimensions and clearances
- Line-set length, drain configuration and elevation limits
- Whether the outdoor unit is supplied pre-charged
- Local electrical-code and refrigerant-compliance requirements
- Availability of replacement boards, sensors, remotes and compressors
- Whether a qualified local HVAC contractor will service the system
Installation quality can matter more than app features. Poor evacuation of refrigerant lines, inadequate drainage, restricted outdoor airflow or an incorrect charge can reduce performance and shorten equipment life. A local professional should confirm that the appliance is legal and practical to install before it is imported.
Is 3HP suitable for a 30–40 m² room?
The reported 30–40 m² suitability range is a rough China-market reference, not a universal sizing guarantee. Room area alone cannot determine the correct capacity.
A proper assessment should consider climate, insulation, ceiling height, window area and orientation, occupancy, appliances, air leakage and whether several rooms share one open space. Installing a 3HP system in a much smaller room may lead to short cycling, weaker dehumidification and less even comfort, even if the room cools quickly.

The best candidates are large bedrooms, open-plan living areas and projects where a powerful wall-mounted system is preferable to a floor-standing cabinet. A smaller room, a rental property or a building needing local warranty and service support is generally better served by a locally certified system sized for its actual heat load.

The reported launch price was 4,299 yuan on Xiaomi Youpin in China. The original coverage’s approximate conversion of $592 is historical context, not a current US retail or installed price.
An international buyer may also pay for freight, customs, local delivery, installation materials, refrigerant work, electrical alterations and return shipping. A China-market product may have no practical overseas warranty, and a failed control board or compressor could be difficult to source.
The available evidence confirms a China pre-sale report but does not verify US availability, US certification, international stock, shipping eligibility or a US service network. Xiaomi’s global website and Xiaomi Youpin are vendor portals, not confirmation that this particular 2024 model remains available in a buyer’s country.
Do not confuse it with later Mijia 3HP models

Verdict for buyers and construction projects
The 2024 Xiaomi Mijia Giant Power Saving Air Conditioner is an interesting China-market wall-mounted split system with high claimed output, smart-home control and a reported APF of 4.55. It may suit a large room where floor space is limited and the owner already uses Xiaomi’s China-region ecosystem.
For an international construction or renovation project, however, the headline price and rapid-cooling claims are not enough. Proceed only after confirming electrical compatibility, local code compliance, installation requirements, app operation, parts supply and warranty coverage. Without those checks, a locally certified and professionally sized inverter heat pump is usually the lower-risk choice.
