Xiaomi launched a Mijia 1.5HP inverter split air conditioner in China on September 29, 2022. The unit was reported to offer cooling and heating, automatic heat-exchanger cleaning, Mijia app control and Xiao AI voice control. Its reported launch price was CNY 2,599, reduced to CNY 2,199 during the introductory promotion.
This was a China-market launch—not a new August 2026 product announcement—and international availability for the exact model remains unverified.

What Xiaomi launched
The product was described in launch coverage as a Xiaomi/Mijia 1.5HP fully enclosed rotary inverter air conditioner. A definitive retail model number was not confirmed in the available sources, so it is safer to identify the unit by its capacity designation and launch features rather than assign it an unverified SKU.
“1.5HP” is a Chinese-market air-conditioner capacity designation. It should not automatically be rewritten as “1.5 ton,” because horsepower and tonnage are not interchangeable labels.

Cooling, heating and room suitability
The reported 660 m³/h figure is an airflow rate: it indicates how much air the indoor unit can circulate. It is not the same as cooling or heating capacity, and it does not mean a room will reach a target temperature in a fixed number of seconds.
The 16–20 m² recommendation is a suitability estimate, not an independent performance test. Actual results depend on insulation, ceiling height, window area, solar exposure, occupancy, outdoor temperature and the room’s layout. A poorly insulated top-floor room may need more capacity than the same-sized shaded room.

What the inverter system means
The reported permanent-magnet rotary inverter compressor is designed to vary its operating speed instead of repeatedly switching between full power and off. In principle, that can provide steadier temperatures and reduce cycling compared with a conventional fixed-speed system, although real-world efficiency depends heavily on installation quality, setpoints, climate and usage.
The launch material cited energy savings of up to 91 kWh compared with energy-efficient wall-mounted air conditioners. This is a comparative “up to” claim, not a guaranteed annual saving. The available report did not provide the baseline unit, climate, operating hours, electricity tariff or testing methodology, so the figure should not be converted into a universal household bill reduction.
How the smart self-cleaning works
The system was reported to use hydrophilic aluminium fins and an automatic cleaning process intended to remove dirt buildup from the indoor heat exchanger. It also included an antibacterial and anti-mildew filter.

Xiaomi’s current documentation for comparable Mijia models describes auto-cleaning as a heat-exchanger process lasting about 40 minutes. The cycle may involve unusual noise, airflow or cold air while it runs, and it does not necessarily clean the fan barrel, drain pan, louvers, casing or outdoor unit.
Comparable Xiaomi guidance also says the cycle can fail to start or stop under certain conditions, including very high or low indoor and outdoor temperatures. Exact controls and limits may differ on the 2022 China-market unit, so owners should use that model’s manual rather than assume current regional menus apply.
Routine maintenance is still necessary:
- Remove and wash the filters as directed.
- Inspect the condensate drain for blockage.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of debris and obstructions.
- Arrange professional internal cleaning when dirt, mould or odours persist.
- Disconnect power before maintenance and never spray water into electrical components.
Noise or temporary airflow during an authorised cleaning cycle can be normal. Water leakage, persistent rattling, repeated cleaning failures or continuing foul smells require inspection rather than being treated as evidence that the system is cleaning correctly.

App and voice-control features
The launch report described control through the Mijia app, Xiao AI voice commands and integration with Xiaomi’s smart-home ecosystem. It also reported a notification when the filter was blocked or needed cleaning.
These features are not automatically transferable across countries. A compatible Xiaomi account, Wi-Fi network, app region, firmware and supported device may be required. Xiao AI is primarily associated with Xiaomi’s Chinese ecosystem; the launch information does not establish Google Assistant or Alexa compatibility.
Comparable current Xiaomi systems can offer remote control, scheduling, device linkage, filter reminders and over-the-air updates. The air conditioner can generally still be used with its physical remote without app pairing, but the exact behaviour depends on the model and region.

The reported Chinese launch price was CNY 2,599, with an introductory price of CNY 2,199 through Chinese retail platforms including JD.com. Historical dollar conversions sometimes published alongside the launch—roughly US$365 and US$309—should not be treated as US retail prices. Exchange rates, shipping, import charges, tax, installation and warranty costs would all change the final price.
No verified global launch or current official listing for the exact 2022 model was established. Buyers should therefore treat claims that it is readily available in the United States or other markets with caution.
What to check before importing one
- Exact SKU: Confirm the model number from the seller, label and manual. Do not rely on a generic “Xiaomi 1.5HP” description.
- Heating: Verify that the exact unit is a heat pump. Xiaomi sells later regional 1.5HP products that are cooling-only.
- Electrical compatibility: Check voltage, frequency, plug, breaker requirements and local electrical-code compliance.
- Installation: A split system needs professional refrigerant-line installation, condensate drainage, outdoor-unit mounting and commissioning.
- Warranty and parts: Confirm who will service an imported China-market appliance and whether replacement boards, remotes and filters are available locally.
- App region: Check whether the unit appears in the Xiaomi Home/Mijia app for the intended account region.
- Climate limits: Verify heating performance and permitted outdoor temperatures for the exact model.
- Noise and efficiency: Request official ratings, but do not confuse manufacturer claims with independent testing.
For construction or renovation projects, these checks should happen before electrical rough-in and wall penetrations. A unit that cannot be legally connected, drained or serviced locally may be a poor project choice even if its purchase price is attractive.
Newer Xiaomi alternatives are not the same product
Xiaomi now lists newer or region-specific Mijia systems with overlapping features. They should not be presented as the 2022 China launch model:
- Mijia Air Conditioner Eco 2.6 kW: Xiaomi lists cooling and heating, self-cleaning, app control and a recommended area of approximately 10–20 m².
- Mijia Air Conditioner Eco 5.2 kW: Intended for approximately 40–55 m² and therefore substantially larger than the 16–20 m² use case associated with the 1.5HP launch unit.
- Mijia Air Conditioner Pro Eco 5-Star 1.5 HP Inverter: A current Malaysia-region product with smart controls and self-cleaning. Regional documentation must be checked carefully because heating support varies by market and SKU.
For example, Xiaomi’s Philippines support documentation identifies a comparable Mijia Air Conditioner Pro Eco Inverter 1.5 HP as cooling-only, despite its smart and auto-cleaning features. That is why capacity and brand name alone are not enough to confirm heating support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsReview Xiaomi Philippines’ regional support information.
Bottom line
Xiaomi’s 1.5HP inverter air conditioner was a credible China-market launch from September 2022, combining reported heating and cooling, a 16–20 m² suitability estimate, smart controls and heat-exchanger self-cleaning. Its CNY 2,599 launch price—and CNY 2,199 introductory price—were China prices, not evidence of US or worldwide availability.
The most important qualification is that self-cleaning does not eliminate maintenance, and the reported 91 kWh saving was an unverified “up to” comparison. Anyone considering an imported unit should confirm the exact SKU, heating mode, voltage, app region, professional installation, warranty and local service support before buying.
