Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings was reported as saying the Iran conflict cost the company’s UAE casino project one day of construction. That figure describes a reported construction-time impact—not the project’s full disruption: separate reports cited higher costs for shipping and supplies, and a September 2027 opening schedule.
What Wynn’s CEO reportedly said
In an October 5, 2026 report, PokerNews attributed this remark to Wynn CEO Craig Billings at the prior week’s Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas: “We missed one day of construction. One day,” PokerNews reported, citing Casino Reports for its account of the event. The quote has not been independently verified against a primary transcript or recording, so it is best understood as reported speech.
Why one day does not describe the whole impact
The one-day statement concerns construction time lost, as reported. It does not establish that the conflict caused only one day of disruption overall, nor does it quantify all effects on logistics, cost, or the opening schedule.
Wynn’s March 11, 2026 update said construction had resumed after a short pause and that the company had taken steps to protect employees at the site. Wynn also said it would assess any additional project impacts later. That earlier update and Billings’s later remark concern different reporting moments and may measure disruption differently; Wynn’s March statement was not an October accounting of the total impact. Costs and opening schedule are separate measures
PokerNews reported that Wynn allocated an additional $600 million for conflict-related costs, including higher shipping and supply-chain expenses. The National reported on August 5, 2026 that the opening had moved to September 2027 and the total project budget had risen by $600 million to approximately $5.7 billion, partly because of conflict disruption and higher material and shipping costs. These reports describe cost and schedule effects; neither means construction itself was delayed by 600 million dollars’ worth of time or that the one-day figure measures those effects. Wynn’s second-quarter 2026 filing reported $48.1 million in cash contributions during the quarter to Wynn Al Marjan Island and Janu Al Marjan Island, bringing life-to-date contributions to $1.06 billion. It also says practical completion under the project financing arrangements is required no later than June 30, 2028. That is a financing-related completion deadline, not the public opening date reported for September 2027. Wynn’s Q2 2026 filing
