Verdict: The original Worx Landroid Vision was impressively effective on a broad, open lawn, but its camera-based obstacle avoidance was not comprehensive enough for cluttered or complicated yards. It could quietly keep a large lawn looking tidy with little intervention, yet cars, trailers, bushes, play equipment, difficult edges, and divided lawn sections exposed important limitations.
This is a review of the first-generation Landroid Vision, tested over several months and published by New Atlas on April 16, 2024. It should not be confused with Worx’s newer Vision Cloud range, which adds features such as RTK Cloud positioning, stereo vision, V-SLAM, and automatic mapping.

What was reviewed?
The mower reviewed was Worx’s original Landroid Vision: a boundary-wire-free robotic mower that used a wide-angle HD camera as its primary way of recognizing lawn boundaries and obstacles.

New Atlas tested it for several months. The model discussed was rated for approximately 1,300 square meters (14,000 square feet) and weighed about 16 kg (35 lb). The review cited an original US price of $1,999 and an Australian price of AU$3,799. Those are historical review-era prices, not universal current prices.

The original Vision’s camera operated at 15 frames per second, according to the review. The mower could explore and map a lawn from its charging station, while the app handled setup, schedules, operation, and multi-zone management.
Wire-free does not mean setup-free
The main attraction was avoiding the substantial installation work associated with conventional perimeter wire. The basic process still involved real preparation:
- Position the charging pad on or beside a suitable area of lawn.
- Let the mower explore and build its understanding of the area.
- Use RFID markers where a path crossing needed to be identified.
- Install exclusion wire around areas the mower must never enter, where necessary.
- Allow the mower to generate a schedule, then refine it in the app.
A separate lawn zone could also be reached by carrying the mower there and starting a cycle manually. That distinction matters. “Multi-zone” support does not necessarily mean the mower can autonomously travel between every lawn section, across every path, through every gate, or along every narrow connection.

On a broad, relatively uncomplicated grassy area, the Landroid Vision performed convincingly. Its coverage could initially look random or uneven, but repeated mowing cycles gradually produced a tidy, consistently maintained lawn. That is the normal robotic-mower model: frequent light cuts rather than one aggressive session on long grass.
It also reliably stopped for many low, ground-level objects, including feet, toys, and hoses. The New Atlas reviewer reported no concern that it would mow a pet, toy, or small child. That observation should not be treated as a substitute for supervision, but it does support the mower’s usefulness around ordinary lawn clutter when the objects are visible to its camera.
Quiet, incremental mowing was another strength. Instead of waiting for the grass to become long and then cutting it heavily, the robot maintained the lawn continuously. The interchangeable Worx battery was compatible with other Worx cordless tools, which added value for owners already invested in the PowerShare ecosystem.

The reviewer also found that it could maintain an area larger than its nominal rating in that particular test. That should not be generalized into a recommendation to exceed the manufacturer’s capacity rating: lawn growth, weather, terrain, schedule, and battery performance all affect the result.

The review’s most important criticism concerns the difference between obstacle detection and full three-dimensional understanding.
The original Vision’s camera looked predominantly downward. That made it better at recognizing objects occupying the mower’s ground-level path than objects suspended above the grass. In the review environment, parked cars, a boat trailer, bushes, and a children’s slide caused problems. The mower could become wedged, spin its wheels, or issue a warning. The reviewer also reported contact with and scratches to vehicles.
The geometry explains why a broad claim such as “AI obstacle avoidance” needs qualification. A low toy or hose may fill the camera’s view. A vehicle bumper, trailer frame, bush canopy, low furniture, or the underside of play equipment can leave the grass visible beneath or in front of the object. The mower may therefore appear to have a clear route even when the physical space is not safe to enter.
This was not established as a universal safety failure. It was a documented limitation in the reviewer’s particular environment, and Worx Australia’s managing director acknowledged that elevated objects could be difficult for the system to detect. The sensible operating rule is simple: remove vehicles, trailers, play equipment, furniture, and other overhanging objects from the mowing area until the mower has been tested under supervision. Use exclusion boundaries where the product and layout support them.
Obstacle detection should never be treated as reliable protection against every person, animal, or object. Children and pets still require ordinary supervision around a moving mower.

Complex lawns were much less convincing
The original Vision was most comfortable on one continuous lawn. Performance became less predictable when the property included:
- Separate front and back lawns
- Nature strips and narrow passages
- Gates and long routes between zones
- Paths, pavers, or bare-dirt transitions
- Fences, posts, and irregular borders
- Children’s play structures
- Rough terrain, patchy grass, and slopes
In the reviewed environment, the mower could not autonomously travel more than a few feet between some areas. It could ask the owner to open a gate, but the practical solution was often to carry the robot to another section. A manually relocated zone could be mowed, although the edges were less well learned and consequently rougher.
At roughly 35 lb, the mower was not impossibly heavy, but repeated carrying was awkward. That residual labor is easy to miss when “wire-free” is presented as equivalent to “drop it anywhere and forget it.” A divided property may still require the owner to open gates, move the mower, clear obstacles, inspect stuck alerts, and finish borders with a trimmer.

Edges remained a separate job
The mower included a “cut to edge” function, but the review did not find edge performance perfect. Fences, posts, and structures could leave uncut strips, and manually relocated zones tended to have less polished borders.
Buyers should interpret “cut to edge” as an effort to reduce trimming, not a guarantee that a string trimmer will never be needed. Lawn design, border height, clearance, and the mower’s ability to approach the edge all matter.
Cutting hardware, weather, and maintenance
The reviewed mower used a three-blade self-leveling cutting disc, replaceable two-way razor blades, adjustable cutting height from 30–60 mm (1.2–2.4 inches), and a rain sensor. The review listed IPX5 water resistance. A garage or shelter was optional rather than essential to operation, although it could provide additional protection for the charging station and mower.

The mower could be configured to operate in wet conditions, but wet grass brings practical drawbacks: clippings can stick to the deck, traction may be less predictable, and cleaning becomes more important. Blade replacement is routine consumable maintenance, particularly where hidden sticks, stones, or other debris are present.

That convenience also means the experience depends partly on software, firmware, connectivity, and the continued behavior of the app. Those dependencies should be considered part of ownership rather than invisible extras.
Theft and security
The mower occupied an awkward security category: heavy enough to be inconvenient to carry, but light enough to be stolen. The original review noted PIN protection. It also reported that Worx said an audible alarm accessory, remote bricking capability, and GPS tracker module were planned or in development at the time. Their inclusion or availability should not be assumed from the 2024 review.
Current Vision Cloud pages advertise 24/7 anti-theft protection with continuous monitoring. That wording should not automatically be treated as physical tracking, guaranteed recovery, or remote disabling. Before buying, confirm from the current documentation whether the service requires an account or network connection, whether cellular connectivity is included, whether the owner receives a location, and what happens when Wi-Fi or RTK Cloud coverage fails. The current Vision Cloud manual is the appropriate place to verify operational details.

Vision Cloud models are marketed with RTK Cloud positioning without an on-site antenna, stereo vision, V-SLAM, automatic mapping, multi-zone management, and improved navigation in shaded or complex areas. Those additions directly address the original review’s navigation concerns on paper. They do not prove that every failure mode found in the original hands-on test has been eliminated, because the dossier contains no independent test of the current range equivalent to that review.

Specifications also differ between generations. For example, Worx lists the WR320.1 with a stereo camera, V-SLAM, an 8.7-inch cutting width, electronic height adjustment from 1.57 to 3.54 inches, a 30% or 17-degree slope rating, a 20V 5Ah battery, and a listed weight of 31 lb. These figures should not be silently substituted for the original mower’s specifications.
Current Worx choices
| Model | Rated area | Listed price observed | Best considered for |
|---|---|---|---|
| WR310.1 Vision Cloud | 1⁄4 acre | $1,199.99 | Smaller lawns |
| WR320.1 Vision Cloud | 1⁄2 acre | $1,799.99 on one official listing | Mid-size lawns |
| WR340 Vision Cloud | 1 acre | $2,299.99 | Large, flatter lawns without 4WD |
| WR344 / WR346 Vision Cloud 4WD | 1 / 11⁄2 acres | $2,999.99 / $3,699.99 | Larger or steeper lawns |
| WR165 / WR147 / WR155 | Varies | $499.99 / $599.99 / $749.99 | Owners willing to install boundary wire |
For a flat, open lawn, a smaller Vision Cloud model may be more relevant than an expensive 4WD unit. For a small lawn and an owner willing to install wire, a conventional Landroid can offer substantially lower entry cost. For a yard where cars, trailers, low branches, or play equipment regularly remain in place, no Landroid should be presented as a guaranteed solution solely because it uses AI vision.
Who should buy a Landroid Vision?
It is a reasonable fit when:
- The lawn is broad, continuous, and mostly grassy.
- You want frequent maintenance mowing rather than occasional heavy cutting.
- You accept some edge trimming.
- Ground-level obstacles can be removed before operation.
- Reliable Wi-Fi and any required connectivity are available.
- You already use Worx PowerShare tools.
- The price is justified by reducing regular mowing labor or service visits.

- The property has several separated areas, gates, or long connecting paths.
- You expect completely unattended, installation-free operation.
- The yard has narrow corridors, rough transitions, bare dirt, or irregular borders.
- You do not want to carry a roughly 30–35 lb mower between zones.
- Theft risk is high and secure storage or verified monitoring is unavailable.
- You expect perfect fence-line cutting without a trimmer.
Bottom line
The original Landroid Vision was a capable maintenance mower, not a universally autonomous lawn robot. Its strongest case was a large, open lawn where repeated quiet mowing mattered more than perfect first-pass coverage. Its weakest case was a cluttered, divided, or irregular property—especially one containing elevated obstacles that its downward-looking camera could fail to interpret.
Vision Cloud’s RTK Cloud, stereo cameras, V-SLAM, and automatic mapping make the current models a different generation, but those are manufacturer feature claims rather than independent proof that the original Vision’s blind spots and zone-travel problems are fully solved. Choose by yard geometry first, then capacity, terrain, connectivity, and price—not simply by the word “vision.”
