Mario and Courtney Lopez reportedly sued the seller of their Los Angeles-area home and its developer over alleged construction defects and failure to disclose them before the sale. The claims described in 2023 news reports include water intrusion after heavy rain and alleged problems with drainage slope, waterproofing and handrails. They are allegations, not court-established findings.
What the Lopezes reportedly allege
Us Weekly reported on December 13, 2023, that Mario and Courtney Lopez filed suit against home seller Frederick C. Wang and Grandway Construction, identified in the report as the general contractor and developer. The couple reportedly entered into a residential purchase agreement in May 2022 for a home in the La Cañada area of Los Angeles. Us Weekly’s account says the purchase documents included seller confirmations that the seller was unaware of matters such as code-noncompliant alterations or repairs, settling, soil movement, flooding, drainage or grading issues.

According to that report, the Lopezes said they experienced severe leakage around the patio deck and exterior steps after heavy rain. They reportedly hired a licensed contractor to inspect the property. The inspection findings they describe allegedly included improper landscape slope, deficient waterproofing with an incorrect material, and improperly installed handrails. The news account also says the couple alleged more than $100,000 in damage, possible mold exposure and damage to home-theater equipment. These descriptions reflect the couple’s reported claims, not independently verified construction findings.

What is established—and what is not
The available accounts establish that the lawsuit was reported in December 2023 and describe the Lopezes’ allegations. They do not establish that Wang or Grandway Construction knew of or concealed defects, that the reported inspection findings were independently confirmed, or that any defendant was found liable.
