Why Is My Ring Camera Not Sending Me Notifications?

Use Event History to determine whether your Ring camera missed the motion or your phone missed the alert, then follow the targeted fixes for settings, Wi-Fi, iPhone, Android, and battery cameras.

If your Ring camera is not sending notifications, first check Event History. A recording with no alert usually points to Motion Alerts, Snooze, Modes, schedules, or phone settings. No recording and no alert usually means the camera is offline, motion detection is disabled, or the activity falls outside the camera’s detection settings.

Work through the checks below in that order. Ring’s app labels can vary by device, region, and app version; the paths shown reflect Ring’s support documentation checked on August 18, 2026.

1. Check Event History first

What you see Likely problem First check
No recording and no notification Offline camera, disabled detection, Motion Zones, sensitivity, schedule, or battery detection frequency Device Health and motion settings
A recording exists but no notification arrived Motion Alerts, Snooze, Modes, schedules, phone permissions, or Focus/Do Not Disturb Motion Alerts and phone notification settings
The notification arrives late Weak Wi-Fi or cellular data, VPN, background restrictions, app problems, or wearable routing Phone connection, VPN, and another signed-in device

Event History is the most useful dividing line: it shows whether the camera detected and recorded an event before you troubleshoot how the alert reached your phone.

2. Confirm the camera is online

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Open the dashboard and select the camera.
  3. Tap Device Health.
  4. Check the connection status and signal strength.

An offline camera cannot detect motion or send notifications. A weak connection can also reduce motion-detection performance even when the device appears online. Distance from the router, walls and other building materials, electronic interference, and the layout of the property can all affect signal strength. Ring’s motion-detection guidance explains these limitations.

#1 Best Overall
Ring Outdoor Cam (Stick Up Cam), Weather-Resistant Home or Business HD Security Camera, Live View, Color Night Vision, Two-Way Talk, Motion Alerts, Works with Alexa, White
  • Outdoor Cam (Stick Up Cam) Battery is a battery-powered camera that’s built for outside, but ready for anywhere.
  • Live View and Two-Way Talk - See, hear, and speak to people on camera and can check in on your home any time through the Ring app.
  • Place almost anywhere - Place on a flat surface or mount to a wall with the versatile mounting bracket. Add-on the Mount for Outdoor Cam (Stick Up Cam) for ceiling mount (sold separately).
  • Cover every corner - Watch over your entire home by connecting one or multiple Outdoor Cams (Stick Up Cams) to the Ring app.
  • Rechargeable Battery - Easily setup Outdoor Cam (Stick Up Cam) Battery by inserting the battery pack and connecting to Wi-Fi.

Reconnect the camera to Wi-Fi through the Ring app, restart the router and camera where appropriate, and test again after the camera reports that it is online. If Device Health shows consistently poor coverage, a mesh Wi-Fi system or Ring Chime Pro may help. Neither will fix disabled alerts or phone permissions.

3. Turn on Motion Detection and Motion Alerts

For most Ring cameras, use this path:

  1. Open the Ring app and tap the menu icon.
  2. Tap Devices.
  3. Select the camera.
  4. Confirm Motion Detection and Motion Alerts are enabled.

Ring documents the controls in its guide to managing alerts for cameras and doorbells. The labels may differ slightly in your app.

  • Motion Detection: determines whether the camera detects and records motion.
  • Motion Alerts: determines whether the Ring app sends you a push notification.

If Event History contains a recording, check Motion Alerts before changing hardware. If there is no recording, check Motion Detection and the camera’s coverage settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Check Alerts Snooze, Modes, and Motion Schedules

Ring can intentionally silence alerts or disable detection. Look for a crescent-moon indicator for global snooze or a bell control for an individual camera. Global Snooze can affect multiple Ring devices; per-device Snooze affects only the selected device. Snooze may pause Motion Alerts while recording continues when your account and device support recording. See Ring’s Snooze instructions.

Also check:

  • the current Ring Mode;
  • device-specific Mode Settings;
  • Motion Schedules;
  • recurring quiet hours or recently created temporary schedules.

Temporarily disable Modes and delete or pause Motion Schedules while testing. If alerts return, the camera was probably following its configuration rather than malfunctioning.

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus, Outdoor Home or Business Security with Motion-Activated 1080p HD Video and Floodlights, White
  • Powerful protection for any property* — 1080p HD security camera for your home or business with motion-activated LED floodlights, 105dB security siren.
  • Real-time alerts* — Get motion-activated notification when anyone steps in view of your camera.

  • Light up large outdoor areas* — 2000 lumen motion-activated floodlights give unwanted visitors nowhere to hide.
  • Sound the siren with a tap* — Activate the 85dB siren from the Ring app to send unwanted visitors running.

5. Check iPhone notification settings

On the iPhone using the Ring account, open the Ring notification settings. Depending on your iOS version, search Settings for Ring notifications or open the Ring app’s notification page. Verify:

  • Allow Notifications is enabled;
  • Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are allowed;
  • Sounds are enabled and the phone is not muted;
  • Ring is not being held for a Scheduled Summary;
  • Focus modes and their schedules are not silencing Ring.

Apple’s controls change between iOS releases, so use the equivalent labels in Apple’s notification guidance.

6. Check Android notification settings

Open Android Settings and search for Ring notifications, App notifications, or Battery optimization. Check both the main Ring permission and individual notification categories. Also review:

  • Do Not Disturb;
  • notification-channel sound settings;
  • lock-screen notifications;
  • battery optimization and background activity restrictions;
  • manufacturer-specific power-saving modes.

Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, and other phones use different menus. Ring’s Android troubleshooting guide and Google’s Android notification guidance provide current references.

7. Turn off Focus, Do Not Disturb, and wearable routing for the test

Temporarily disable iPhone Focus or Android Do Not Disturb, including scheduled Driving, Bedtime, Work, or Gaming modes. Test again, then add Ring as an allowed app or use supported Priority Alerts if you need Ring alerts during quiet periods. Do not leave Do Not Disturb disabled permanently if you rely on it.

Ring Spotlight Cam Plus, Battery, Home or Business Security with HD video, Two-Way Talk, Color Night Vision, and Security Siren, White
  • Look in anytime – Watch over your home or business day or night in wide-angle, 1080p HD video with Color Night Vision and see what’s happening with Live View.
  • Stop intruders in their tracks – With 2 motion-activated LED spotlights that turn on when they detect motion, and sound the built-in security siren with just a few taps.
  • Focus on important areas – Customizable motion zones let you choose exactly what your camera covers – so you only get notified about what matters most.
  • Convenient Power – Easily power your device with the Quick Release Battery Pack.
  • Speak to visitors on camera – Talk to guests anytime, from anywhere with Two-Way Talk.

If you use a smartwatch, check its notification-mirroring settings. Ring notes that an alert may be routed to or heard through the watch rather than the phone. A notification can also be visually present but silent while you are on a phone call.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

8. Check Motion Zones, Privacy Zones, and sensitivity

An online camera can still miss an event if the activity is outside the active area or beyond practical detection limits. Check:

  • Motion Zones;
  • Privacy Zones;
  • Motion Sensitivity;
  • camera angle and distance;
  • Bird’s Eye Zones, where supported;
  • recurring movement such as trees, flags, shadows, reflections, cars, or sidewalks.

The current documented path is Menu → Devices → camera → Device Settings → Motion Settings → Camera Motion Zones. Ring supports up to three Motion Zones per device. Ring describes 30 feet as a standard maximum detection range, but the practical range varies by device, object, angle, and conditions. See Ring’s Motion Zones guidance.

For testing, create a zone covering the expected approach path and walk across the camera’s view. Increasing sensitivity or expanding a zone can restore missed alerts, but may also create more false alerts from streets, trees, shadows, or neighboring property. Repositioning the camera or excluding recurring movement may be better.

9. Check battery-camera detection frequency

Battery-powered Ring cameras can trade responsiveness for battery life through Motion Frequency:

Ring Indoor Cam — Home or business security in 1080p HD video, White
  • Get the whole picture – Watch over your home day or night in 1080p HD video with Live View and Color Night Vision.
  • Video previews – Record a few extra seconds before every motion event with Advanced Pre-Roll to get a more complete picture of what happened.
  • Privacy at your fingertips – Turn off your camera and mic with the manual Privacy Cover, then reactivate with a simple swivel.
  • Get important alerts – Get real-time alerts when the camera detects movement, and choose exactly what your camera covers so you only get notified above movement that matters.
  • Versatile mounting options – Find the perfect angle on a table, or mount up high with the flexible swivel mount. Indoor Cam is plug-in, making it easy to move where you need it.
  • Frequently: shortest battery life and the most continuously active detection;
  • Regularly: a balance, with a short break after an alert;
  • Periodically: longest battery life but longer detection gaps.

If a battery camera misses intermittent activity, try a higher frequency and, where supported, Advanced Motion Detection. This may reduce battery life. Also check the battery level, camera placement, and whether protective film is still covering a newly installed or replacement device. Ring’s motion-detection documentation explains the trade-off.

10. Check Smart Alerts

Smart Alerts can filter people, packages, and vehicles on supported devices with a compatible Ring Protect plan. Depending on its configuration, the camera may notify, record, do both, or do neither for particular categories. Temporarily disable Smart Alerts or broaden the selected categories as a diagnostic test.

Do not assume every package, animal, shadow, or small object will be classified as expected. Ring notes that envelopes, tubes, small boxes, and some food deliveries may not be detected reliably. Read the current Smart Alerts documentation for device and plan limitations.

11. Fix delayed or inconsistent notifications

If the alert eventually arrives, focus on delivery rather than Motion Zones:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm the phone has working Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  2. Disable any VPN temporarily; Ring says VPNs can delay notifications.
  3. Restart the phone.
  4. Update the Ring app and phone operating system if updates are available.
  5. Temporarily relax battery-saving and background restrictions.
  6. Check whether another phone or tablet signed in to the account receives the alert.
  7. Test once with the phone unlocked and once locked.

Ring recommends restarting the phone or tablet and, if earlier steps fail, uninstalling and reinstalling the Ring app. Have your Ring login credentials ready before uninstalling. Its general notification troubleshooting guide also covers VPNs and smartwatches.

12. Run a controlled test

  1. Confirm the camera is online in Device Health.
  2. Turn off Alerts Snooze temporarily.
  3. Confirm Motion Detection and Motion Alerts are on.
  4. Temporarily disable Modes and Motion Schedules.
  5. Turn off Focus or Do Not Disturb.
  6. Walk through the center of the active Motion Zone.
  7. Wait for the event to appear in Event History.
  8. Check whether the phone receives the alert.
  9. Repeat with the phone unlocked and locked.
  10. If possible, repeat on another signed-in phone or tablet.

This test separates four different failures: the camera did not detect motion, it detected but did not record, Ring generated an alert but the phone suppressed it, or the phone received the alert but displayed or sounded it incorrectly.

When does a Ring subscription matter?

A Ring Protect plan is not automatically required for ordinary push notifications. Ring says basic product use, including live video and answering doorbell notifications, can work without a subscription. Plans are relevant to applicable cloud recordings, longer Event History, and advanced features such as supported Smart Alerts. Eligibility varies by device and country. See the Ring product FAQ and current U.S. plans page.

Subscribing will not repair disabled Motion Alerts, phone permissions, Focus, Snooze, or an offline camera. Consider a plan if you need recordings or advanced alert features—not as the first fix for missing push notifications.

When to contact Ring support

Contact Ring when the camera is online, Motion Detection and Motion Alerts are enabled, Snooze and schedules are off, phone permissions are correct, and a controlled test still produces no notification on multiple signed-in devices. Also contact support if the problem affects every Ring device after app, phone, and network checks, or began after an app or service change and persists across devices.

For a single failing camera, gather its Device Health status, battery or power condition, Wi-Fi signal, affected times, and whether an event appears in Event History. That evidence helps distinguish a device problem from an account, app, network, or phone-delivery problem.
