Who makes STIHL zero-turn mowers?
STIHL is the maker and brand behind the RZ zero-turn mower line. Its lineup includes gas and battery-powered models; the manufacturing-origin statement available from STIHL applies specifically to gas-powered zero-turn mowers.
As one example, STIHL describes the RZ 261 as a gasoline model and its largest consumer zero-turn mower. Its product page lists a 25 hp Briggs & Stratton V-twin engine, a 61-inch deck, four-wheel suspension and Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 transaxles. Where are STIHL gas-powered zero-turn mowers made?
STIHL’s 2025 zero-turn comparison chart states: “STIHL gas-powered zero-turn mowers are made in America of U.S. and global materials.” That is the clearest product-specific origin statement. The wording is limited to gas-powered zero-turn mowers. It should not be extended to STIHL’s battery-powered zero-turn models without a separate source confirming their origin.
Are STIHL zero-turn mowers made in Virginia Beach?
STIHL Incorporated, the U.S. affiliate of the global STIHL Group, is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. STIHL’s worldwide production directory also refers to Virginia Beach in connection with power-tool housings. Neither fact identifies Virginia Beach as the assembly location for STIHL zero-turn mowers. STIHL’s cited materials state that gas-powered zero-turns are made in America, but do not name their specific production or assembly facility.

STIHL’s corporate facts provide the U.S. affiliate information; the production directory describes production sites and the Virginia Beach housing reference.

Origin is only one factor when choosing a mower. STIHL’s buyer guidance recommends comparing the engine, blade material, deck size, suspension and optional accessories such as baggers or mulchers. Buyers should also check that a particular model is currently available in their area.

- Compare deck width and intended mowing needs.
- Check the engine and transmission specifications for the model.
- Consider suspension and comfort features, plus any accessories you plan to use.
- Ask an authorized STIHL dealer about advice, maintenance and warranty service. STIHL directs U.S. customers to its authorized dealers for those needs.
STIHL notes on its RZ 261 page that the model is not available for purchase or delivery in California. Product details and local availability can change, so confirm current information on the STIHL zero-turn lineup page and with a dealer.
