The brand’s current North American 24V cordless tools have earned positive independent test results, including the FX1272 hammer drill, but those reviews do not establish the performance or long-term reliability of every FLEX product. If you are considering a purchase, judge the exact model, battery platform, warranty and service options—not the brand name alone.
Who owns FLEX power tools?
FLEX is owned by Chervon, a power-tool company whose business includes research and development, sourcing, manufacturing, testing, marketing, sales, distribution and after-sales service. The companies’ official accounts differ slightly on when Chervon acquired FLEX: Chervon dates the acquisition to 2013, while FLEX’s history page says it was taken over in 2012.
FLEX traces its history to Ackermann + Schmitt, founded near Stuttgart in 1922. Its company history identifies the 1954 DL 9 high-speed angle grinder as a landmark. That heritage explains the brand’s German origins; it does not establish where each current FLEX tool is manufactured.
Are FLEX tools any good?
The clearest positive evidence is for specific tools in the FLEX 24V cordless range. Independent tests support strong performance from the models reviewed, but they are not a brand-wide assessment, and performance testing does not prove long-term service life.

What independent testing found
In a 2022 overview, Pro Tool Reviews reported positive initial impressions of FLEX 24V tools and recommended tested flagship models, including a hammer drill with Turbo mode and a rear-handle circular saw, as top overall in their classes. That is the publisher’s assessment of the tools it tested at the time, not a verdict on every product in the lineup.
In its 2026 review of the FLEX FX1272 hammer drill, Pro Tool Reviews reported 1,500 in-lbs of torque and favorable test performance for speed and torque. It also noted that the drill is heavier than average. That makes the FX1272 a promising option when power matters, but weight may be a drawback for overhead work or long periods of use.

What the evidence does not establish
The available tests do not show how every FLEX drill, grinder, sander, legacy corded tool or accessory performs. Nor do they establish a representative brand-wide failure rate or long-term reliability record. If durability is central to your decision, look for reports from users doing comparable work and check the exact model’s warranty and service support; don’t treat a warranty term or a small number of performance tests as proof of lifespan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What warranty does FLEX offer?
For the United States and Canada, FLEX lists a three-year limited warranty for 24V tools, batteries and chargers. The term can extend to five years if you register within 30 days of purchase. FLEX says that not registering does not reduce the warranty rights otherwise available, but the longer term depends on registration. The listed terms also require the original purchaser to buy from an authorized FLEX retailer and retain proof of purchase. Other product categories may have different coverage, and some accessories and attachments have no warranty. Check the current FLEX warranty terms for the product and location you are considering.

How to decide whether a FLEX tool fits your job
- Start with the exact task and model. A test of the FX1272 hammer drill is relevant to drilling and driving work; it is not evidence about a FLEX grinder or sander. Match the model’s features and tested performance to the work you actually do.
- Compare weight and handling. The FX1272 review flags above-average weight. Consider balance and fatigue as well as power, especially for overhead, repetitive or extended work.
- Account for the battery platform. FLEX 24V batteries are part of FLEX’s platform; don’t assume another brand’s batteries will fit. If you do not already own FLEX batteries, compare the cost and contents of a kit with a bare tool. Confirm whether the listing includes batteries and a charger.
- Check purchase and warranty eligibility. For the U.S. and Canada terms described above, an authorized retailer and proof of purchase matter; registering within 30 days is necessary for the optional five-year term.
- Compare like with like. When weighing FLEX against another brand, compare tools intended for the same job and consider tested performance, weight, features, batteries and chargers, service access, warranty conditions and current price. A brand-level ranking based on unrelated tools or different test methods can mislead.
