Its 2,000 plants are a design specification for the planned facades. The claim that it “will fight climate change” describes the design team’s stated aim. No measured climate result for the building has been published, and the public record from 2017 does not confirm whether the tower was built.
What the project is
Forêt Blanche is a vertical-forest tower designed as part of the Balcon sur Paris development. The architect’s project page lists 2017 as the project year and names Compagnie de Phalsbourg, Codeurs et Compagnie and Emerige among the client and investor credits. The architects’ announcement of the winning proposal is dated October 20, 2017.
The tower is specified at 54 metres. A November 2, 2017 report by the World Economic Forum, published in collaboration with Business Insider, gave the same height as 177 feet.
How the building is planned to work
The design describes a mixed-use tower with three distinct zones:

Planted terraces and balconies run through the envelope. According to the architect’s project page, the structure combines load-bearing timber, vertical concrete cores and XLam infill panels. The vegetation supports are a mixed wood-and-steel system, which the architect says was designed to carry substantial loads and the dynamic effects of wind.
The east- and west-facing sides were drawn to admit sunlight, with the stated aims of natural daylight and ventilation for the apartments. These are design intentions as published by the architect, not measured performance.

The 2,000-plant figure
The architect says the facades would hold 2,000 plants, including trees and shrubs. That is the planned count stated in both the project page and the October 2017 announcement. It is not a count taken from a completed building, and no planting record from a built structure has been published.
The same sources compare the planned green surface with one hectare of forest, which they describe as ten times the building plot’s area. This is the architect’s own comparison, and it depends on how the green area is calculated. Those calculation details are not published in the material available.

Climate claims compared with available evidence
The architects framed the project around strengthening the relationship between urban life, living nature and biodiversity, and presented it as part of a response to climate change and urban biodiversity. Futurism’s coverage, updated November 30, 2017, noted that the project’s climate contribution would need to be evaluated.

Without a measured result, the headline’s “will fight climate change” should be read as the project’s intent, not an outcome.
Was the tower built?
The most detailed status report dates from November 2, 2017. It said construction was expected to start soon and that the architect’s firm told Business Insider that plans were moving forward, with no set timeline at that time.

The architect’s project page continues to describe the design, but it does not say whether the tower was built, cancelled or redesigned. The sources reviewed here do not establish completion. Descriptions such as “is being built” or “stands in Villiers-sur-Marne” would go beyond the evidence unless a later, dated source confirms them.
How to check current status
- Start with the architect’s project page for Forêt Blanche and look for a completion date or a link to a built-project credit.
- Search for the project name with “Villiers-sur-Marne” and “2026” or the year of your check, and compare any results against the 2017 dates above.
- Check the commune’s public planning records for Villiers-sur-Marne. Building permits and completion notices are the most direct official evidence of construction.
- If you find a completed building, confirm the plant count from a dated source rather than from the 2017 design figure.
A 2017 design figure should not be used as a current planting count, and a 2017 aim should not be presented as a current environmental result.
