Start with the Samsung subwoofer on the floor at the front of the room, to either side of the TV and soundbar, near a wall but not enclosed. A front corner is worth testing if the bass lacks impact, but it is not automatically the best position. The most reliable answer for your room comes from testing several locations with a subwoofer crawl.
The best default position
Place the subwoofer:
- On the floor, rather than on a shelf or unstable stand.
- To the left or right of the TV and soundbar.
- Close to a wall, with the grille, driver, port and vents unobstructed.
- Near a suitable power outlet.
- Where the wireless signal to the soundbar is reliable.
The subwoofer does not have to sit directly beside the soundbar. Compatible Samsung units communicate wirelessly, although distance, walls, metal furniture and electronic interference can affect the connection. Left or right side?
Either side is normally suitable. Choose the side with fewer obstructions, a convenient outlet, less wireless interference and enough room around the cabinet. There is no universal acoustic requirement for the subwoofer to be on the left. Some diagrams use the left side as a convention, but your room may sound better with the unit on the right.
Why placement changes the bass
Low-frequency sound is generally difficult to localize, but the room strongly affects how it sounds. Walls and floors can reinforce bass, while reflections can create peaks and cancellations. A position that sounds powerful in one seat may sound weak a few feet away.

That is why the loudest location is not necessarily the best one. Aim for bass that is deep, even and controlled across the main seating positions.
How to find the best position: the subwoofer crawl
- Temporarily place the subwoofer at the main listening position, as close to the sofa as practical.
- Play familiar music or a film scene with sustained, repeating bass at a moderate volume.
- Walk or crouch around the room, checking the front corners, front wall, side walls and—if practical—the area behind the sofa.
- Listen for the location where bass sounds full and smooth rather than merely loud or boomy.
- Move the subwoofer to that location and listen again from the normal sofa position.
- Check at least one additional seat before making a final decision.
This method is recommended by SVS’s subwoofer placement guidance. It accounts for your room’s dimensions, furniture and listening positions instead of assuming one universal location.

Corner, wall or behind the sofa?

A subwoofer behind the sofa is not inherently wrong. Keep it only if the bass remains integrated with the front soundstage and the wireless connection is stable.

Locations to avoid
- Closed cabinets: They can obstruct the acoustic output, create cabinet resonance and restrict ventilation.
- Tight compartments: Do not press the unit against furniture, walls or other equipment.
- Blocked ports, grilles or drivers: Samsung designs differ, so follow the orientation shown in your model’s manual.
- Unstable shelves or narrow furniture: Vibration can cause rattles or make the subwoofer unsafe.
- Areas beside heavy electronics or wireless equipment: These may contribute to connection problems.
Samsung manuals differ on clearances, so there is no single distance that applies to every model. Keep the operating area open and follow the model-specific minimum clearance where one is provided. An open TV stand may be acceptable only if it does not block the subwoofer and the manual permits it; placing the unit beside the stand is usually safer.

Fixing common bass problems
Bass is too boomy
- Move the subwoofer away from the corner.
- Try another point along the same wall.
- Test the opposite side of the room.
- Check whether furniture or the floor is vibrating.
- Lower the Samsung subwoofer level.
- Run the soundbar’s room-calibration feature if your model supports one.
Dolby’s placement guidance also recommends relocation when boundary reinforcement produces excessive or boomy bass.
Bass is weak or disappears from the sofa
The subwoofer may be sitting at an acoustic cancellation point. It may also be too far away, set too low, blocked, disconnected or receiving a source with little bass. Try another wall or corner, compare another source and sound mode, check that the LINK indicator is solid, and then adjust the level only after testing physical placement.

Furniture or the floor rattles
Move the subwoofer away from the vibrating object, clear loose items, reduce the subwoofer level and consider suitable isolation material. Isolation can reduce structure-borne vibration, especially on wood or laminate floors, but it cannot correct a room-mode null.
What if the wireless connection keeps dropping?
Check the following:
- Both power cords are firmly connected.
- The subwoofer is closer to the soundbar.
- Objects between the two units have been removed where practical.
- The units are away from dense clusters of electronics and potential radio interference.
- Both units have been power-cycled.
If audio still cuts out, re-pair the system using the exact instructions for your model. Samsung identifies a continuously blinking blue LINK indicator as a sign that automatic connection has failed.

General Samsung ID SET procedure
The procedure varies by model, so treat this as a general outline rather than a universal button sequence:
- Power on both the soundbar and subwoofer.
- Press the subwoofer’s rear ID SET button with a pointed object until the indicator begins fast blue blinking.
- With the soundbar switched off, hold the remote’s Mute button until ID SET appears.
- Turn on the soundbar while the subwoofer indicator is blinking.
- Wait for the LINK light to become solid blue.
Some Samsung models use a different soundbar button or remote sequence. Confirm the steps in the official Samsung support instructions or the manual for your exact model.
Does SpaceFit or Auto EQ remove the need to test placement?
No. Room correction can improve the response at a calibrated listening position, but it cannot make every physical location equivalent or eliminate obstruction and severe room cancellations. Put the subwoofer in its intended final position before running SpaceFit, Auto EQ or another model-specific calibration feature. Availability and menu paths vary by Samsung generation.

Do not assume so. Samsung wireless subwoofers commonly use model-specific pairing. A generic powered subwoofer or wireless adapter made for an AV receiver will not automatically pair with a Samsung soundbar.
Check the exact soundbar model, the official compatible-subwoofer list and whether the soundbar has a genuine subwoofer output. Samsung’s compatibility guidance is the appropriate starting point. In most cases, testing placement is a better first step than buying replacement hardware.
