Where is the filter on my Samsung washer?
If your front-load model has a removable pump filter, look for a small access panel low on the front of the washer. The filter, also called the debris filter, catches lint and other debris before they enter the drain system, according to Samsung US Support. The exact panel location and opening method vary by model.

Do not assume that every Samsung washer has this filter. Samsung’s general US cleaning guide says top-load washers do not have a pump filter, and some older front-load models may lack one or the emergency drain hose used to empty residual water. If your washer does not match the directions below, stop and consult its manual rather than forcing a panel or part.
Does my Samsung top-load washer have a filter?
Samsung’s general US guidance says top-load washers do not have a removable pump filter to clean using this procedure. Its Self Clean cycle reminders are separate: Samsung says they appear after 20 washes on top-load models and 40 washes on front-load models. Those reminders are for the Self Clean cycle, not a universal pump-filter schedule.

How do I clean the Samsung washer debris filter?
For a model with an accessible pump filter and emergency drain hose, prepare a towel, a container large enough to catch the water (Samsung gives an oil-drain pan as an example), and an optional small soft-bristle brush such as a toothbrush. The water left in the washer can spill when the filter is removed.
- Switch off the washer and let hot water cool. If the washer has recently run a hot cycle, wait one hour before starting; Samsung warns that the residual water may be very hot.
- Open the low front access panel. Find the emergency drain hose, remove it from its clip, and hold it over the container.
- Drain the remaining water. Twist off the hose cap and let the water flow into the container. Keep control of the hose while it drains. When the flow stops, replace the cap temporarily if needed to avoid spills.
- Remove the filter. Follow your manual’s release method. On many models the filter turns counter-clockwise; some require you to push it in while turning. Do not force it if it will not release.
- Clean and inspect. Rinse debris from the filter and use the soft-bristle brush if needed. Look into the filter housing for debris around the pump impeller; remove visible debris carefully.
- Reinstall the parts. Turn the filter clockwise until secure, in the vertical position as specified in Samsung’s general instructions. Firmly replace the drain-hose cap, return the hose to its clip, and close the access panel.
How often should I clean the filter?
Samsung US recommends cleaning the pump filter at least once a month or about every 40 washes, whichever comes first, in its general washer-cleaning guide. The interval is Samsung’s care guidance; the page does not state a publication year. A separate Samsung Laundry Combo manual specifies cleaning its drain filter every two months. That product-family interval should not be applied to other washers; follow the manual for your exact model.

Why is my Samsung washer not draining?
A clogged debris filter can reduce drainage effectiveness. Samsung also explains that the washer tries to drain before spinning, so a drain problem can prevent the spin step. But a dirty filter is only one possible cause. Samsung says incorrect drain-hose installation is the most common reason for drain issues and that service is rarely required.
- If your model has a user-cleanable filter, clean it using the procedure and safety guidance above.
- Check that the drain hose is installed as described in Samsung’s drain troubleshooting guidance; installation details matter.
- If the washer still will not drain or spin after the applicable checks, use Samsung’s troubleshooting steps or contact Samsung support. Symptoms alone do not establish that the pump has failed.
Samsung’s US support pages may not match models sold in other regions. For exact access, release, and maintenance instructions, use the manual for your washer’s model number.
