On most Samsung dishwashers with a removable filter, it sits inside the tub at the bottom, near the drain or sump. Pull out the lower rack and inspect the tub floor. Samsung uses several filter designs, and some models have no removable filter, so check your model’s manual before trying to remove a part.
Where to look
- Open the dishwasher and pull out the lower rack.
- Inspect the tub floor around the drain or sump. On models with a removable filter, the assembly is usually located there, beneath the rack.
Samsung places the filtering system inside the tub, but the layout varies. Its UK cleaning guide describes fine-filter, micro-filter and no-removable-filter configurations. Samsung Australia likewise cautions that the filter design can differ by model. If you do not see a familiar removable assembly, do not assume it is missing; consult the manual for your dishwasher’s exact model.
How Samsung filter designs differ

These are general patterns, not a universal removal procedure. Compare what you see with the diagrams and instructions in the user manual before turning or lifting anything.
How to remove and clean a removable filter
- Turn off the dishwasher for the cleaning steps. Samsung US includes this precaution in its filter-cleaning guidance.
- Remove the lower rack to make room to reach the filter at the bottom of the tub.
- Use the release method specified for your design. Depending on the assembly, the filter itself or its handle may turn counterclockwise before the part lifts or the cover unlocks. Do not force it if it will not turn or does not match the manual.
- Rinse the removed parts. If debris remains, Samsung US says a toothbrush can be used gently; avoid damaging the filter components.
- Reinstall the assembly as the manual directs. For the fine-filter design Samsung UK describes, reassemble in reverse order and turn clockwise to secure it. For the micro-filter design, turn the handle clockwise to lock it. Samsung Australia cautions that the fine/micro filter must not be installed upside down where that design applies.
Do not operate the dishwasher without its filters installed. Samsung warns that the filter assembly must be in place during operation.

If you cannot find or remove the filter
- Check the model-specific manual. Filter position and removal steps differ, and some Samsung models do not have a removable filter. Samsung UK’s cleaning instructions direct owners to the manual when the general steps do not match their dishwasher.
- Do not force a part that will not release. A different design or release method may apply; forcing it can damage components.
- Do not assume the drain pump is removable. Samsung notes that pump access and removal vary by model. Use the manual rather than reaching into the opening or attempting a procedure that is not specified for your dishwasher.
