Short answer: the original Beatbot AquaSense is best understood as a cordless floor, wall, and waterline cleaner—not a maintenance-free replacement for pool care. It can remove much of the routine vacuuming and avoids a floating power cable, but you still need to retrieve it, empty and rinse its filter, charge it, and manually handle steps, shelves, heavy debris, and water chemistry.
This guide covers the original AquaSense, not the newer AquaSense 2, AquaSense 2 Pro, AquaSense 2 Ultra, or AquaSense X models. Because those products have different specifications and capabilities, make sure the model name matches the box and product page before comparing features or prices.

What the AquaSense is—and is not
The AquaSense is a cordless robotic pool cleaner intended to work across the pool floor, walls, and waterline. Beatbot lists a 6,700-mAh lithium-ion battery, up to 3.5 hours of continuous floor-cleaning runtime, up to 5,500 GPH suction, a 150-micron filter, app control, and a charging solution. These are manufacturer specifications and runtime claims, not guarantees that every pool will be cleaned completely on one charge.

It does not balance chemicals, inspect circulation equipment, skim every piece of debris from the surface, backwash a filter, or guarantee coverage of shallow steps and tanning ledges. A robot can reduce physical cleaning work while leaving the rest of pool maintenance unchanged.

First, identify the exact product
“AquaSense” is now a family name. The original AquaSense should not be confused with the AquaSense 2 or premium Ultra model. Newer products may advertise different Wi-Fi support, batteries, warranties, surface-cleaning features, navigation systems, and step qualifications.
The price also changes. On Beatbot’s U.S. product page, the original AquaSense was displayed at $799 on sale against a $1,299 regular price when checked on August 18, 2026. Treat that as a time-sensitive price observation, not a permanent price.
A meaningful review or buying decision should also identify the pool: above-ground or in-ground, approximate dimensions, shape, surface, depth changes, steps, shelves, benches, drains, ladders, and fittings. Saltwater or chlorine conditions, the type of debris, and whether the water was chemically balanced can all affect results.
What should be in the box?
Beatbot lists the original package as including the robotic cleaner, charging equipment or dock depending on the product-page variant, a retrieval hook, a quick-start guide, and a user manual. The charging description has appeared differently across product-page variants, so verify the actual package rather than assuming every listing contains the same dock or charger.
Before putting the cleaner in water, inspect the filter basket, brushes, impeller area, charging equipment, and retrieval hook. Keep the receipt, serial number, and packaging until you know the unit works correctly.
Setup and first use
- Charge it fully. Follow the exact charging and placement instructions in the manual for your model.
- Install the Beatbot app. Create or sign in to an account if the app requests one.
- Pair the cleaner. The original model supports 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi. Your phone and home network may need to use that band during setup.
- Choose a cleaning mode. Record the app version and available modes because labels and menus can change after updates.
- Place the robot in the pool as directed. Observe whether it sinks, finds the floor, climbs the wall, reaches the waterline, and begins moving normally.
- Let the first cycle reveal limitations. Watch corners, drains, steps, ladders, returns, and any change from a flat floor to a deep end.
- Finish the routine. Retrieve the robot or wait for it to park, empty the filter, rinse the cleaner, and return it to charging.
Do not judge setup only by how quickly the app pairs. The useful question is whether the entire deployment and after-cycle routine is convenient for the person who will actually maintain the pool.

The app: useful control, but not a submerged smart-home device
The app can make starting and stopping the cleaner more convenient and may provide battery information, progress details, notifications, and firmware updates. Test whether it finds the robot promptly, whether controls respond consistently, and whether the interface clearly reports a completed or interrupted cycle.

There is an important physical limitation: Beatbot says water can severely weaken Wi-Fi. A submerged robot may appear offline or lose its network connection, even when the home network itself is working. Test the cleaner by starting a cycle, closing the app, moving away from the pool, and reconnecting. Then try the same controls while the robot is underwater.
Being offline does not necessarily mean the robot has stopped cleaning. Determine which functions continue autonomously and which require a live connection. The original AquaSense should not be bought on the assumption that it can be controlled reliably from anywhere while submerged.
Cleaning performance by surface
Pool floor
The floor is the most straightforward use case. Evaluate fine dust, sand, pollen, leaves, corners, drains, and the transition into the deep end. Look for uncleaned strips, repeated routes, debris pushed rather than collected, and whether the filter fills before the cycle ends.
Beatbot advertises up to 3.5 hours of continuous floor cleaning. Actual runtime depends on the selected mode, pool surface, debris load, wall climbing, water conditions, and battery condition. A long advertised runtime does not prove that a particular pool will be completed on one charge.

Wall climbing depends on traction, surface condition, waterline design, and battery level. Check whether the robot climbs consistently, slips on slick or algae-coated surfaces, reaches the vertical-to-waterline transition, or becomes confused at corners and fittings.

- Effortless Retrieval with Auto Surface Parking & One-Click App Parking: No heavy lifting! AquaSense 2 automatically parks above the water after cleaning or when the battery is low. SmartDrain releases water for easy retrieval, and the app lets you call the robot back to the surface anytime.
The original AquaSense is listed with up to 5,500 GPH suction and floor, wall, and waterline coverage. Suction specifications alone do not establish uniform real-world cleaning, so separate the claimed coverage from what happens in the pool being cleaned.
Waterline
“Waterline cleaning” should mean more than approaching the edge. Look for visible scrubbing on the actual tile, vinyl, fiberglass, or painted surface. Check around return jets and fittings and inspect whether a visible ring remains after one cycle. Surface texture and the shape of the waterline can make results inconsistent.
Steps, shelves, and benches
This is the area most likely to disappoint owners who interpret “full-pool coverage” too broadly. Floor, wall, and waterline claims do not automatically mean the robot can climb every step, remain stable on a shallow sun shelf, or clean a bench.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The newer AquaSense 2 and AquaSense 2 Ultra pages publish model-specific step qualifications: AquaSense 2 lists a water-depth threshold greater than 0.98 feet, while AquaSense 2 Ultra lists greater than 1.31 feet. Those figures apply to those models and should not be transferred to the original AquaSense. If steps or ledges are important, confirm the exact model’s requirements and compare them with your pool’s dimensions.
Navigation and common places it can struggle
A cleaner may use sensors and programmed movement without producing perfect route coverage. Observe whether it repeatedly revisits one area, misses corners, stops at drains, catches on ladders or rails, or becomes trapped near raised lights and fittings.
Also test what happens after an interruption. Does it resume sensibly, stop where it is, flip, or return to its expected parking position? Automatic return-to-start or waterline positioning is convenient when it works, but retrieval behavior should be part of the evaluation—not an assumption.

Reports about obstacles and app quirks in independent coverage of the higher-end AquaSense Pro provide useful context, but they are not proof that every original AquaSense behaves identically. Model, software version, pool geometry, and production date matter.
The real after-cycle workload
The AquaSense reduces vacuuming; it does not eliminate handling. Beatbot lists the original model at approximately 9.3 kg with a 2-liter filter basket. A wet robot may feel awkward even if its dry specification seems manageable.
After each cycle, plan to:
- Retrieve the cleaner with the hook or from its parked position.
- Lift it carefully and avoid dropping it onto the deck.
- Open and empty the filter basket.
- Rinse fine dust and trapped debris from the basket and robot.
- Inspect brushes and the impeller area for hair, string, leaves, and grit.
- Allow the cleaner to dry and store it out of direct sun as directed by the manual.
- Place it on the correct charging equipment.
Fine silt may escape or become disturbed while removing the robot. Heavy leaf loads can fill a two-liter basket quickly and reduce effective cleaning. Large branches and exceptional storm debris should be removed manually first.
Battery and charging expectations
The original AquaSense uses a 6,700-mAh battery. Beatbot’s “up to 3.5 hours” figure refers to continuous floor cleaning, not necessarily a mixed floor-and-wall cycle in every pool.
For a realistic assessment, record the full-charge time, runtime in each mode, pool size, starting battery level, and remaining battery after a cycle. Check whether the robot parks safely when power is low and whether one charge covers the entire pool. Never assume it can operate while charging; follow the manual and keep charging equipment protected from water and weather as specified.

What it does not replace
Even a successful cleaning cycle does not replace:
- Testing and balancing sanitizer, pH, alkalinity, and other water chemistry.
- Checking water level and circulation.
- Backwashing or cleaning the pool’s filtration system.
- Removing heavy surface debris or storm debris.
- Brushing inaccessible steps, shelves, fittings, or areas the robot misses.
- Inspecting for leaks, equipment faults, or structural problems.
If a pool service currently handles chemical management, equipment inspection, and repairs, a robot alone is not an equivalent substitute.

Warranty, returns, and support
Beatbot’s original AquaSense listing advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee, two years of full replacement protection, and 24/7 support. Confirm the current terms for the exact model, seller, country, and purchase channel before buying. Retailer purchases may have different return procedures, and newer AquaSense models advertise different warranty periods.
Customer reports are mixed: some anecdotes praise cleaning and support, while others mention delays, step limitations, or inconsistent results. These reports can identify questions to ask, but they are not a measured failure rate. If something goes wrong, keep the receipt, serial number, photos, videos, app error messages, and firmware information.
Original AquaSense versus realistic alternatives
| Option | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Beatbot AquaSense | Simple pools where cordless floor, wall, and waterline cleaning is the priority | Finite battery, post-cycle handling, and uncertain step performance |
| Beatbot AquaSense 2 | Buyers seeking a newer model with stated dual-band Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, up to four hours of floor cleaning, and a three-year warranty | Do not assume its accessories or results match the original |
| Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra | Owners willing to pay for premium navigation and surface-cleaning features | Much higher price; unnecessary for many simple pools |
| Maytronics Dolphin Premium 3000 | Owners prioritizing a corded system, caddy, serviceability, and explicit steps/sun-ledge coverage claims | Power cable and higher observed price of $1,449 |
| Maytronics Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus Wi-Fi | Buyers wanting lower-cost app scheduling and conventional corded operation | Observed $749 sale price, one-year warranty, and no cordless convenience |
Prices above were observed on August 18, 2026, and can change. See the original AquaSense listing, AquaSense 2 page, AquaSense 2 Ultra page, Dolphin Premium 3000 page, and Nautilus CC Plus Wi-Fi page for current specifications and terms.

Consider the original AquaSense if your pool has relatively simple geometry, you want cordless deployment, and you accept emptying, rinsing, charging, and occasional manual cleaning.
Look at AquaSense 2 instead if its current price is close to the original and you value newer stated connectivity, longer advertised floor runtime, or a longer warranty. Verify the exact specifications rather than assuming every improvement carries over.
Choose a corded Dolphin if long-term serviceability, scheduled operation, a caddy, or explicit step and sun-ledge coverage is more important than eliminating the cable. A corded design also avoids battery-aging and charging logistics.
Add a dedicated surface skimmer or choose a model with surface cleaning if trees, insects, and wind regularly put substantial debris on the water. A pool robot focused on submerged surfaces will not solve that problem by itself.
Skip the AquaSense or seek professional help if your pool has unusual geometry, severe debris, inaccessible ledges, or if lifting a wet 9.3-kg cleaner is unsafe. In those cases, a service arrangement or a different cleaning system may be the better fit.
