Compare table length and support, fence, cutterhead and replacement parts, adjustment controls, dust connection, footprint, weight, included safety gear, and warranty. The right choice depends on the stock you prepare and the space and setup you can accommodate.
What to look for in a 6-inch jointer?
Start with the exact model specification sheet, not just the “6-inch” label. That nominal width is a capacity limit; it does not tell you how well a machine will support a long or awkward workpiece. Table length, usable support, and the length of stock you commonly handle all matter.
- Workpiece capacity: Check maximum width and depth of cut, then compare the table dimensions with the length and shape of your typical stock.
- Fence: Compare its length, material, rigidity, and how it adjusts or locks at angles.
- Cutterhead and parts: Identify whether the machine uses straight knives or a helical/spiral cutterhead, and confirm that compatible replacements are available for the exact model.
- Setup: Check motor and electrical requirements, dust-port diameter, footprint, and weight against your shop and dust-collection equipment.
- Included items and coverage: Verify whether push blocks are included and read the warranty terms for the specific machine.
Manufacturer specifications are useful for comparing capacity and configuration. They are not independent evidence of accuracy, surface finish, noise, or service life. The available manufacturer information does not establish comparative performance on those measures.
How do table length and support affect capacity?
The table is the workpiece’s support surface. A longer table can provide more support for longer stock, but published table length alone cannot establish how accurately or easily a particular machine handles a board. Consider the stock you actually joint, available infeed and outfeed space, and whether your setup can support pieces extending beyond the table.

What should you check on the fence?
A fence guides the work and provides a reference face. Compare its dimensions and construction, how it attaches, and how it tilts or locks. A larger or heavier-looking fence is not proof of better accuracy: the available sources do not provide independent measurements of fence alignment, rigidity under load, or repeatability.
Specifications differ by model. Delta lists a cast-iron fence on the 37-071, while King Canada lists an aluminum tilting fence on the KC-6HJC. Those descriptions identify construction and adjustment style; they do not establish which fence performs better.
Rank #3
- Spiral Cutterhead - Cutterhead with 6 rows that holds staggered tungsten carbide inserts for a smooth finish. The design of the cutterhead along with the use of in-house made inserts make cuts with the lowest amp draw compared to others.
- Two-sided Inserts - Two-sided inserts sit in perfect alignment to the spiral cutterhead. Non-cutting edge designed to prevent insert from skewing while planing. The precision is superior to 4-sided inserts.
- Powerful 12-amp Motor - 20% boost! Large 12 amp motor, the most powerful compared to other benchtop jointers on the market. Highly effective in making aggressive cuts.
- Adjustable Large 24" x 6" Cast Iron Fence - Features quick stops at 90° and 135° for versatile cutting angles.
- Taller (8½") Fence Enhancement Brackets - Taller Fence Enhancement Brackets Designed For Cast Iron Fence For Increased Stabilization. (Patented in Taiwan.)
Should you choose straight knives or a helical cutterhead?
Both cutterhead styles are available in 6-inch jointers. The cited manufacturer information establishes the configurations, but does not prove a universal performance winner. Consider replacement-part availability and compatibility as well as the cutterhead type.
| Model | Manufacturer-listed cutterhead or knives | Replacement-part information in the listing |
|---|---|---|
| Delta 37-071 | Two-knife aluminum cutterhead | Not stated in the cited product details |
| Grizzly G0945 | Two SK5 steel straight knives | Not stated in the cited listing details |
| King Canada KC-6HJC | Helical cutterhead | Not stated in the cited product details |
| WEN JT3062 | Two-blade cutterhead | Compatible replacement blades are listed |
| WEN JT630H | Spiral cutterhead with 12 staggered HSS blades | Compatible replacement spiral blades are named |
Do not assume knives or inserts fit across brands—or even across models from one brand—because the machines share a 6-inch capacity. Verify the part number and dimensions for your exact jointer before ordering.

How much cut-depth adjustment do you need?
Several cited models list a maximum depth of cut of 1/8 inch: Delta 37-071, Grizzly G0945, and King Canada KC-6HJC. This is a published maximum, not a recommendation to remove that much material on every pass. Check how the specific machine adjusts its tables and depth, and consult its manual for safe setup and operating instructions; the cited specifications do not establish adjustment accuracy or ease of use.
Will the dust port fit your collection system?
Dust connections differ, so check the stated diameter and the dimensions of your hose or adapter before buying. Delta lists a 2-1/4-inch inner-diameter chip-chute opening on the 37-071. Grizzly G0945, King Canada KC-6HJC, and both cited WEN models list 2-1/2-inch dust connections. Confirm the connection type as well as the nominal diameter; an adapter may be needed.

Can a benchtop 6-inch jointer handle your projects?
A benchtop machine may suit a shop where portability and storage matter, but the label alone does not establish how stable a machine will be in use or how well it supports your stock. Compare each model’s weight, footprint, table dimensions, and intended mounting or use. Make sure your bench or stand can support the machine securely and that you have room for the workpiece to travel across the tables.
For reference, Delta lists the 37-071 at 76 pounds. Grizzly lists the G0945 at an approximate shipping weight of 44 pounds; shipping weight is not the same as the machine’s operating weight. Do not treat these figures as a controlled measure of stability or portability.
What accessories and warranty are included?
Check the box contents before budgeting for safety accessories. Delta lists push blocks with the 37-071; Grizzly lists included push blocks for the G0945; King Canada lists safety push blocks for the KC-6HJC. The cited WEN descriptions do not establish whether push blocks are included, so check the exact listing and manual.
Warranty terms also vary in the cited manufacturer information: Delta lists five years for the 37-071, Grizzly lists one year for the G0945, and WEN lists two years for the JT3062. A warranty duration does not by itself explain coverage, exclusions, or service process; review the terms applicable to your purchase. The cited details do not state a warranty for the King Canada KC-6HJC or WEN JT630H.
How to compare models without overreading the specifications
- Write down your stock and shop constraints. Note the width and length of the boards you commonly prepare, available infeed and outfeed space, bench or stand capacity, electrical supply, and dust-hose size.
- Compare exact model sheets. Record maximum width and cut depth, table dimensions, fence construction and adjustment, cutterhead, motor and electrical requirements, dust-port diameter, footprint, and weight.
- Confirm consumables and safety gear. Look up compatible knives or cutter inserts by exact model, and check whether push blocks are included.
- Read the applicable warranty and manual. Verify coverage and installation, adjustment, and operating requirements before purchase.
- Separate specifications from performance claims. Treat statements about precision or finish as manufacturer claims unless supported by independent measurements. The cited sources do not establish comparative accuracy, finish quality, noise, or service life.
Prices, inventory, and product-page details can change. Verify current specifications and terms with the manufacturer or seller for the exact model and region before purchasing.
