Shanghai Metals Market reported on October 5, 2026, that work followed the posting of a C$6.5 million bond for construction-phase site rehabilitation. The early-works programme is planned to include access-road upgrades, water-management structures and temporary power through late 2026 and into 2027.
What the early-construction milestone means
The announcement marks a move from construction readiness into physical work at the project site on the north shore of Lake Superior. Generation Mining’s August 2026 update described the 100%-owned project as advancing construction readiness and procurement. Early works are a step toward building the mine, not evidence that the mine has been commissioned or has started commercial production.
The reported programme covers site and infrastructure activities. Shanghai Metals Market described access-road upgrades, water-management structures and temporary power as planned work; it did not report that all of those elements were already complete. The schedule described extends through late 2026 and into 2027.
Bond, payments and project costs
The C$6.5 million bond reported by Shanghai Metals Market covers construction-phase site rehabilitation. It is a rehabilitation assurance milestone, not a statement that the mine is financed in full or that the project’s construction cost has been paid.

Shanghai Metals Market also reported that Generation Mining expects approximately C$30 million in initial equipment payments. That is a company expectation subject to final contracts and approvals, not a confirmed payment or final contracted amount.
What procurement bids say—and what they do not
In an August 12, 2026 update, Generation Mining said bids received for major equipment and construction packages represented approximately 30% of the project’s estimated capital cost. The company said aggregate pricing for those packages was at or below the corresponding allowances in its 2025 feasibility study. This is a comparison of bids received to date against study allowances; it does not establish the final capital cost.

The company listed progress on grinding mills, a high-voltage substation, a thickener, a primary crusher, hydrocyclones and a pre-engineered process-plant building. It also reported selecting an original equipment manufacturer for the mining fleet. Procurement progress supports construction readiness, but does not mean all equipment is contracted, delivered or installed.
Production figures remain feasibility-study estimates
Shanghai Metals Market reported feasibility-study estimates of approximately 2.16 million payable ounces of palladium and 488,000 payable ounces of platinum over a 13-year mine life. These are projected quantities, not actual output or a current production rate. Early construction alone does not confirm that the estimates will be realized.

How to read the next project update
For a clear comparison with later announcements, distinguish the milestone reached, the work completed versus planned, the schedule, the status of financing or rehabilitation assurance, and estimated costs versus contracted or actual expenditures. In this case, the reported milestone is the start of early site construction; the named infrastructure work remains a plan, and equipment spending and final project costs are not yet established by the reported figures.
