Two more Ottawa County roads are scheduled to close this week: 96th Avenue south of Stanton Street on October 28 for culvert replacement, and 112th Avenue between Port Sheldon Street and New Holland Street on October 29 for water-main work. The Ottawa News Network’s October 26, 2026 update also lists nine active full-closure entries, with estimated reopenings from October 30 through November 30. Resurfacing will continue on 12th Avenue and Taft Street under lane restrictions, while subdivision resurfacing begins in Jamestown and Port Sheldon.
All dates are estimates. Weather and other circumstances can move the schedule, so drivers should follow work-zone signs, use signed detours and allow extra time.

How should drivers plan around these projects?
Use the road closure itself as the decision point: a signed detour is safer and more predictable than attempting to enter a barricaded segment.
- Check the limits before leaving. Compare your route with the exact endpoints in the tables, especially along Van Buren Street, 120th Avenue and the Holland-area intersections.
- Follow official signs. Use the signed detour rather than local shortcuts that may be unsuitable for construction traffic or emergency access.
- Allow additional time. Lane restrictions on 12th Avenue and Taft Street can create delays even though those roads are not listed as full closures.
- Recheck on the day of travel. The update states that construction schedules may change because of weather or other circumstances.
- Drive cautiously through work zones. Reduce speed, watch for workers and equipment, and obey temporary traffic-control devices.
Who can confirm a closure or schedule?
The Ottawa County Road Commission is the public contact identified for these projects. For project or traffic-impact questions, call 616-842-5400. The commission also provides an online contact form and township subdivision-resurfacing information for street-level questions.
When contacting the commission, provide the road name, nearest cross street, travel direction and the date and time you expect to use the route. That information helps staff distinguish between overlapping projects, such as the Van Buren Street segments and the 120th Avenue/James Street work in Holland.

What do the dates mean for reopening?
An “anticipated reopening” or “anticipated completion” date is a planning estimate, not a promise that the road will be open at the start of that day. Utility installation, culvert or bridge work, paving, inspections and weather-related delays can affect the final changeover. Treat a barricade and the latest field signage as controlling if they differ from the published estimate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the listed Ottawa County closures full closures or lane closures?
The nine active entries and the two newly scheduled projects are presented as road closures. The 12th Avenue and Taft Street resurfacing projects are specifically described as lane restrictions, so those roads remain passable with slower or alternating traffic expected.

The update directs drivers to signed detours but does not publish a route-by-route detour map or travel-time estimate. Follow the temporary signs at each closure and avoid moving barricades.
Where can residents find subdivision resurfacing information?
