Weber Smoque: A Lower-Cost Smart Pellet Smoker, Not a Cheaper Searwood

Weber’s Smoque lowers the entry price for connected pellet smoking to $799, but its value depends on whether you need smoking convenience or the Searwood’s high-heat versatility.

Weber’s Smoque is a $799 US smart wood-pellet smoker designed primarily for low-and-slow cooking. It brings Weber Connect app control, two food probes, SmokeBoost, and automated temperature management to a lower price than Weber’s $999 Searwood 600. The $200 saving is meaningful, but the Smoque is not a full substitute for the Searwood: Weber documents the Searwood for cooking up to 600°F with DirectFlame capability, while the Smoque is positioned more clearly as a smoke-focused cooker.

What the Weber Smoque is

The Weber Smoque is an electric wood-pellet smoker, not a charcoal kettle or conventional gas grill. An auger feeds wood pellets into a burn pot, while a fan, igniter, and controller regulate the cooking temperature. It needs a grounded outdoor electrical outlet to operate.

Weber’s intended uses include brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, chicken, fish, vegetables, jerky, roasting, and baking. It is best understood as an automated low-and-slow smoker for cooks who want smoke flavor without managing a charcoal fire manually.

In the United States, Weber lists model #1500770 at $799. Prices and availability vary by country, retailer, and promotion. See Weber’s official Smoque product page.

What “smart” means in practice

The Smoque’s smart features are practical rather than mysterious. It includes:

  • A Weber Connect digital LCD controller on the grill
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Weber Connect app support for monitoring and, according to Weber, remote control
  • Two food-probe ports and two included probes
  • Live cooking progress, readiness alerts, recipes, and guided steps
  • Automated temperature management through a Rapid React PID controller

The system automates temperature control and gives you app-based visibility; it does not eliminate supervision. You still need to check pellet levels, grease, weather, probe placement, and food safety. Firmware and app setup should be completed before relying on remote features.

SmokeBoost and SmoqueVent

SmokeBoost is designed to hold the cooker in a temperature range Weber says is suitable for increased smoke absorption. It may be useful during appropriate parts of a cook, but Weber’s description does not establish a guaranteed smoke-ring result or a fixed increase in smoke intensity.

SmoqueVent is Weber’s smoke-circulation design. The company says it moves smoke around the food and through the cookbox to encourage flavor and browning. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent performance results, so buyers should treat the feature as a design aim rather than a promise of identical results in every weather condition or recipe. Weber explains the system in its Smoque launch announcement.

Heat-up time and cooking capacity

Weber says the Rapid React PID controller can bring the Smoque to cooking temperature in 15 minutes or less under stated test conditions. Actual warm-up depends on ambient temperature, wind, fuel quality, electrical power, the selected temperature, and whether the lid stays closed.

Weber lists 594 square inches of total cooking space. Other published material identifies a smaller primary cooking-area figure, suggesting that the headline number may include an upper rack. Verify the rack breakdown before comparing capacity directly with another grill. There is not enough official capacity guidance to promise a precise number of briskets, ribs, or burgers.

Smoque versus Searwood 600

Feature Weber Smoque Weber Searwood 600
US listed price checked August 2026 $799 $999
Primary emphasis Smoking and low-and-slow cooking Smoking, roasting, baking, and high-heat grilling
Smart features Weber Connect, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, LCD controller, two probes Weber Connect, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, LCD controller, two probes
Published cooking area 594 sq. in. total; primary-area breakdown should be verified 648 sq. in.
High-heat capability Confirm the final US specification before purchase Up to 600°F
Smoke and heat systems SmokeBoost and SmoqueVent SmokeBoost and DirectFlame
Warranty Five-year limited warranty listed by Weber Five-year cookbox/component coverage, with shorter terms for several electrical and cooking components

The Searwood’s extra $200 buys documented high-heat operation, DirectFlame cooking, and somewhat more published cooking area. The Smoque is therefore not simply a cheaper Searwood with identical capabilities. It is the better value when smoking automation is the priority; the Searwood is the safer choice for one cooker that must also sear steaks aggressively.

Ownership requirements

Before buying, plan for:

  • A grounded outdoor outlet and a stable, ventilated location
  • Dry, compatible wood pellets stored away from moisture
  • Initial burn-in, app pairing, and firmware updates
  • Regular grease, ash, burn-pot, and cookbox cleaning
  • A cover if the smoker remains outdoors
  • Extra time and fuel when opening the lid frequently

Wind, cold weather, damp pellets, an empty hopper, grease buildup, or a power interruption can affect temperature control. A power cut can stop the auger and fan, so the Smoque should not be treated as a cooker that can safely run unattended indefinitely. Weber recommends keeping pellet grills away from strong wind and keeping the lid closed as much as practical.

What comes with it?

Weber’s specification material identifies the smoker and cabinet assembly, two food probes, and a cookbox scraper, along with owner documentation. Regional packages can differ, so confirm the contents for the exact US model before ordering.

Who should buy the Smoque?

The Smoque makes sense for a first-time pellet-smoker buyer who mostly cooks barbecue, wants app-based monitoring, and values guided temperature control. It is also a sensible choice for existing Weber Connect users who do not need maximum searing heat.

Choose the Searwood 600 instead if you regularly cook steaks at high heat, want DirectFlame capability, need the larger published cooking area, or would rather pay $200 now than upgrade later.

Skip both if you have no suitable outdoor power, dislike app-connected appliances, prefer charcoal fire management, or need a cooker that performs like a dedicated high-heat gas or charcoal grill.

Before-you-buy checklist

  • Will you smoke more often than you sear?
  • Do you have a safe, grounded outdoor outlet?
  • Is the Smoque’s total cooking area enough for your typical meals?
  • Are you comfortable storing pellets dry and cleaning ash and grease?
  • Will app monitoring genuinely help your cooking?
  • Would the Searwood’s documented 600°F operation justify another $200?
