Walmart’s onn Indoor Camera Wired makes basic Google Home camera coverage unusually inexpensive. The U.S. listing showed the wired, indoor 1080p HDR camera at $22.96 when checked. It can be set up and managed through the Google Home app, making it a practical way to add a nursery, office, hallway, or pet area to an existing Google Home setup.
There is an important catch: $22.96 buys the hardware, not a complete security system. The camera depends on Wi-Fi and internet access for its smart features, and longer video history, intelligent alerts, and advanced Gemini for Home capabilities may require a Google Home Premium subscription.

It is not a complete $23 security system
The phrase “Google Home security” can make the product sound broader than it is. The onn camera is an indoor consumer camera. It does not provide professional monitoring, alarm response, outdoor protection, or a guaranteed local recording system.
It also needs a nearby outlet, so placement is less flexible than with a battery camera. Do not use it on an exposed porch, driveway, outdoor outbuilding, or anywhere a cable could create a trip or tampering risk. The listing also indicates that remote control, streaming, notifications, and video history depend on the Google Home app and a working Wi-Fi and internet connection.
Reported secondary specifications include a 130-degree field of view, night vision, and two-way audio. Those details should be treated as reported specifications and checked against the current packaging or documentation; the available coverage does not establish independent measurements of image quality, detection accuracy, latency, or reliability.
Google Home setup is the key difference
This newer onn Indoor Camera Wired should not automatically be treated like older onn-branded cameras. Some older budget-camera instructions point users toward Tuya, Smart Life, or a separate companion app. Google and Walmart describe this model as being set up through Google Home instead.

The exact button names can change as Google updates its app, but the general process is:
- Install or update the Google Home app.
- Sign in with the Google account used for your household’s Google Home.
- Plug in the camera and wait for setup mode.
- In Google Home, choose the option to add or set up a device.
- Select the onn camera when it appears.
- Assign it to the correct Home and room.
- Connect it to your Wi-Fi network and complete any QR-code, pairing, or firmware prompts.
- Confirm that live video loads.
- Test motion or sound notifications and review household sharing permissions.
If Google offers a Premium trial, check the renewal price and cancellation terms before accepting it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the camera will not connect
- Move the camera and phone closer to the router during setup.
- Restart the camera and the Google Home app.
- Confirm that the correct Google account and Home are selected.
- Remove a failed device entry and try again.
- Reset the camera using the model’s documented reset procedure.
- Check for app or firmware updates.
- Verify that the desired feature is available for your country, language, account, and app version.
Do not assume that every onn camera requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. That is common advice for some older smart-camera platforms, but the exact requirements for this Google Home model should come from its current documentation.
What works without Google Home Premium?
The baseline experience is intended to cover ordinary live viewing and basic Google Home operation. The listing and Google’s announcement advertise three hours of event snapshot history. In practical terms, buyers should expect the included experience to center on:
- Live viewing through Google Home
- 1080p camera video, subject to network conditions
- Basic event snapshots or limited history
- Camera access on supported Google Home devices or TVs
- Model-, account-, and region-dependent motion, person, or sound features
Google Home compatibility does not mean every Google Home feature is free. Google’s current Premium plans add longer history and more advanced analysis.

What costs extra?

The subscription applies at the household level rather than necessarily charging separately for each camera. That can make it more reasonable for a home with several compatible cameras, but it is a much larger commitment for someone buying one $23 camera only to check a room occasionally.
The real first-year cost
At the listed hardware price, the simple purchase-price math is:
- One camera: approximately $22.96 before tax
- Two cameras: approximately $45.92 before tax
- Three cameras: approximately $68.88 before tax
- Five cameras: approximately $114.80 before tax
Those figures exclude tax, delivery, accessories, and subscriptions. With annual Premium pricing, the first-year totals become approximately:

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How it compares with a Nest camera
The onn camera’s advantage is upfront cost and expansion value. It offers a cheaper way to put cameras in more rooms while keeping them in the Google Home environment. That is especially useful if you already use Google Home and do not want a separate camera platform.
A Nest camera remains the more natural choice for buyers who prioritize a first-party Google device, premium hardware, or capabilities associated with higher-end models. The two products may share the Google Home environment, but they should not be treated as identical in image quality, durability, detection performance, or feature access.
For outdoor coverage, choose a camera designed for outdoor conditions rather than attempting to adapt this indoor model. For a Google Home-compatible front-door option, Google announced the onn Video Doorbell Wired at a $49.86 launch price, although its current retail price should be verified separately.

Who should buy it?
Buy it if:
- You already use Google Home.
- You want an inexpensive indoor live-view camera.
- You have a convenient outlet.
- You are comfortable with cloud-connected camera services.
- Three hours of event snapshots is enough, or you are willing to pay for longer history.
- You want to add several indoor camera locations without paying Nest hardware prices.
It is a particularly sensible fit for a nursery, home office, hallway, or pet area. Renters may also appreciate that installation does not require complex security wiring, although the power cable still needs to be safely routed.

Privacy and household security
Before installing any cloud-connected camera, decide whether its view includes bedrooms, children, guests, private workspaces, or other sensitive areas. Review who belongs to the Google Home household and who can access the camera. Use a strong Google account password and two-factor authentication.
Also consider the trade-off involved in cloud history and Gemini features. Longer event storage, searchable footage, descriptive notifications, and generated summaries can be useful, but they make account permissions and cloud-data decisions more important. Disable sharing or notifications you do not need, and avoid placing the camera where privacy expectations are highest.
Verdict
The onn Indoor Camera Wired is a strong low-cost Google Home expansion device. At about $23, it makes basic indoor coverage accessible and can be a good choice for existing Google Home users who need live viewing in another room.
