Vero Fiber has begun building a fiber-to-the-home network in El Centro, California. Field work began September 28, 2026, in southwest El Centro, according to local reporting that relayed information from the City; Vero announced the project on October 6. The planned build will combine aerial fiber on existing utility poles with new underground conduit, but Vero has not published address-by-address activation dates.
Where construction is happening
The initial construction area is in southwest El Centro, between South Imperial Avenue and South La Brucherie Road, from Ross Avenue south to Ocotillo Drive. KYMA reported that the City said crews began near Ross and South Imperial avenues, with work expected to move west along Ross Avenue and into nearby residential areas. The work start was reported on September 28, 2026; it is distinct from Veroâs October 6 public announcement.
Vero describes the build as proceeding in zones of roughly 300 homes each. Its first zone is near De Anza Magnet School, within the broader southwest area. Vero has also named areas near Sunflower Elementary School and El Centro Community Center as future construction areas, but has not given exact dates for those neighborhoods.
How the network will be built
The California CEQA/CPUC project record describes a planned 92-mile high-capacity cable system through developed parts of El Centro. About 71 miles are planned as aerial strand and fiber attached to existing utility poles; roughly 21 miles are planned as new underground conduit and fiber. These are project-scope figures, not miles already completed, addresses passed, or customers connected.

According to KYMAâs September 28 report, the early work involved potholing and utility verification. Directional boring was expected to begin October 5, followed by conduit installation, pull boxes and handholes, fiber placement, and restoration of disturbed areas. That was a reported schedule expectation, not confirmation that every activity began on that date.
Construction timing and neighborhood availability
In the September 28 report, the City expected work in the initial area to continue until late October or early November 2026, subject to field conditions and schedule changes. That was a forecast, not a confirmed completion date. Neither the announcement nor the project record establishes a street-by-street service activation schedule.

For the most current status at a specific home or business, use the address lookup on Veroâs El Centro page. Vero says its lookup shows progress stages from design through active service. A neighborhood being named as a future construction area does not by itself confirm that service is available there.
What to expect around active work zones
KYMA reported that the City expected traffic control during construction, with driveway access maintained and safe pedestrian access provided through or around work zones. The City urged drivers to use caution, follow posted signs, and allow extra travel time. Those details came from a September 28 report and may change as work progresses; follow current signs and municipal notices.

What Vero says its service includes
Veroâs El Centro page describes the planned service as symmetrical and advertises no contracts, no hidden fees, free installation, and a home Wi-Fi system with free extenders. These are company statements. The reviewed page does not establish address-specific prices or speed tiers, so check the address lookup and service terms for the actual offer at a particular location.
Veroâs October 6 announcement also describes a referral offer under which both the referring customer and the referred friend or family member receive one free month of fiber internet. The announcement says its Veros Heroes discount is for firefighters, police officers, teachers and educators, healthcare workers, and first responders. Confirm current eligibility and terms directly with Vero. Its Stream & Save tool is promoted as a way to find streaming services by interests and budget; the reviewed information does not say streaming subscriptions are included with broadband.

How to assess the service once it reaches your address
When service is offered, compare the complete terms rather than relying on a general claim about fiber or a neighborhood rollout announcement. Check the advertised download and upload speeds, total monthly charge and any promotional-period changes, equipment and installation fees, contract terms, support options, and the estimated activation timing for your address. The available El Centro project information does not provide a current competitor or plan comparison.
