Michael Baker International announced LiveTwin on October 1, 2026, presenting it as the flagship solution in its digitalMBI innovation platform. The company describes LiveTwin as an enterprise digital twin for infrastructure, facilities, campuses and operations: a way to connect existing data and systems into a shared operational picture. Its capabilities and reported results are vendor claims, not independently validated findings.

What LiveTwin is designed to do

Michael Baker introduced LiveTwin at its annual Tech Summit for owners, operators, public agencies and infrastructure professionals. The company calls it an open, AI-native platform. Those terms describe the vendor’s positioning; the announcement does not provide technical detail to independently assess them. Michael Baker’s launch announcement frames the central problem as disconnected information: “Our industry does not have a data creation problem. It has a data connection problem.”

The platform is intended to bring together information generated across an asset’s lifecycle rather than leave it siloed in separate models, maps, sensors and business systems. Michael Baker says LiveTwin can contextualize connected information for asset and operational decisions. Its product site lists capabilities including capture, discovery, reasoning, forecasting, optimization and automation.

What data and use cases the company describes

Michael Baker identifies these potential data inputs:

  • Building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Reality capture and LiDAR
  • Internet of things (IoT) sensors
  • Enterprise systems, inspections and workflows

The company’s listed markets include schools and public safety, Class I rail, transportation, airports, bridges, data centers, higher education, design-build, disaster response, planning, federal facilities, and water and flood management. These are stated target applications, not evidence of measured outcomes in every sector.

Published figures and what they establish

Michael Baker’s October 1, 2026 launch release says early adopters use LiveTwin across more than 1,400 U.S. facilities and more than 30 million square feet of managed space. It also says some early adopters reported performance improvements exceeding 20 times legacy solutions. The release does not define the benchmark behind that comparison or provide independent validation.

The LiveTwin product website, accessed October 7, 2026, displays 1,400+ buildings mapped, 28 million square feet mapped and 14K+ assets tracked. These are the site’s current metrics and use different wording and measures from the launch release; they should not be combined into a single total.

The reviewed sources do not include an independent study or customer case study with measured LiveTwin outcomes. The figures above therefore indicate what Michael Baker has published, not independently established performance.

Existing systems, data control and the Autodesk relationship

Michael Baker says LiveTwin is intended to work with customers’ existing data and technology investments. Its product site names Esri and Microsoft investments as supported contexts. The company also says clients retain ownership, control and traceability of their data. The available descriptions do not specify integration methods, deployment architecture or contractual terms, so buyers would need to confirm how those statements apply to a particular project.

Separately, in May 2026 Michael Baker announced that it had joined Autodesk’s Digital Twin Solution Provider Program and would work with Autodesk Tandem as a system of record for client asset information. That announcement predates LiveTwin. It does not establish that LiveTwin is built on Tandem or that the relationship includes a commercial referral arrangement. What infrastructure owners should clarify before evaluating it

For a construction or infrastructure team, the practical question is not simply whether a platform can display a digital model. It is whether it connects the right information and supports the operational work the owner needs. When assessing LiveTwin, ask for specifics on:

  • Which existing systems, file formats and data sources can be connected, and whether integrations are included or require custom work.
  • How the platform supports operational workflows beyond visualization, and which decisions or tasks are demonstrated in a relevant project.
  • How asset information is maintained from design and construction through operation, including responsibility for updates and data quality.
  • What data ownership, access, retention, security and traceability mean in the contract and deployment architecture.
  • How any claimed performance improvement is measured, what baseline it uses, and whether a customer can validate it against its own workflow.

The sources reviewed do not state LiveTwin’s price, deployment requirements, service-level terms or detailed technical security documentation. Michael Baker presents the platform through a demo request rather than as a retail product.
