Where the new fire station is being built
Station 7-12 is located at 9511 Weston Rd., on the former Vellore Hall parking lot. Vaughan introduced the project in a September 15, 2022 announcement, identifying the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area as having an emergency-response coverage gap. The City said the new station would also support responses from nearby Stations 7-7, 7-5 and 7-9. Vaughan’s 2022 project announcement

What the City says the station will include
In its October 3, 2024 construction announcement, the City described a planned building of approximately 875 square metres, with two apparatus bays opening directly onto Weston Road. It said the design would meet LEED Gold standards and aim for Zero Carbon Building Standard certification. Those are design goals, not confirmation that either certification has been achieved. The City’s project page also identifies rooftop solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, and mass timber construction as features of the project. Fire Station 7-12 project page

Construction and opening timeline
Vaughan and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service marked the start of construction on October 3, 2024. That announcement forecast an opening in 2026. The City’s current project page specifies that the station is expected to be operational in December 2026. The cited official updates do not give a more specific opening day or confirm that the station is already operational.
Why the site was selected and what changes nearby
The former Vellore Hall parking lot was selected for the station at 9511 Weston Rd. Vaughan’s 2024 announcement said the public parking serving Vellore Hall would be relocated east, to an existing open lawn area in Vellore Heritage Park. The City also said the station design would minimize disruption to Vellore School and Vellore Hall while maintaining safe access to the park and trails. Vaughan’s October 2024 announcement

What the station is expected to mean for response coverage
The City’s stated purpose is to address the coverage gap around Weston Road and Rutherford Road and support nearby stations. Mayor Steven Del Duca said in the October 2024 announcement: “When open, Station 7-12 will serve residents in the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area to help ensure response times remain low and people are able to get the emergency support they need, quickly.” That describes the intended benefit; the official project information does not report measured response-time changes attributable to this station.
What is not yet established
The City’s project page provides the planned operational month, but the official updates cited here do not confirm a construction-completion declaration, commissioning status, current staffing, achieved green-building certification, project cost, contractor, or operational performance. Vaughan’s October 2024 release called Station 7-12 its 11th fire station at the time; the City’s general fire-stations page lists 10 stations, so neither count establishes a current operational total without further clarification.
