The Cyclone Lighting Valenza is a configurable, V-shaped post-top luminaire for municipal and other outdoor projects. Its 45-LED and 90-LED light-engine options, delivered outputs from 2,400 to 20,000 lumens, and more than 13 distribution types let a designer match light to parks, streets, campuses, transit areas, parking lots and other layouts. The right specification still depends on project photometry, mounting geometry and local requirements—not on the lumen range alone.
This guide explains what the Valenza family (model designation VALT4A) offers, how its optics can solve mixed road-and-path conditions, and which commercial details must be confirmed with Cyclone Lighting or an authorized supplier.

Choosing the 45-LED or 90-LED board
45-LED board: ambient illumination
Cyclone’s stated use for the 45-LED board is ambient illumination in parks, pathways and urban squares. In these settings, the goal may be comfortable, evenly distributed light that supports wayfinding and public activity rather than the higher calculated levels associated with roadways or large vehicle areas. The announcement’s wording is specific: “A 45-LED board is designed for ambient illumination for parks, pathways, or urban squares.”
That description is a starting point, not a blanket recommendation. A busy civic plaza, a path with unusual grades or a park that also serves as an emergency route may require a different output or distribution. Have the designer calculate maintained illuminance, uniformity, glare and spill light for the actual pole locations before selecting the board.

The 90-LED board is described for higher-performance uses, including bike paths, roads, courtyards, campuses, transit spaces and parking lots. These areas commonly have longer sight lines, moving vehicles or bicycles, security expectations and more demanding spacing constraints. The larger board option can be considered when the calculation calls for more delivered light, but the final result also depends on optic, mounting height, pole spacing, tilt, surface reflectance and maintenance assumptions.
Do not treat “90 LED” as an automatic code-compliance setting. The board count identifies the light-engine option; it does not by itself establish a roadway classification, required average illuminance or acceptable glare level.
Output, color and finish decisions
Delivered lumens
The published 2,400-to-20,000-lumen span gives a broad specification envelope for the family. Delivered lumens describe light leaving the luminaire package, rather than the amount reaching a particular pavement or walkway. Two packages with similar lumens can produce very different results when one uses a narrow roadway optic and the other uses a broad symmetrical optic.

Request the exact delivered-lumen value for the proposed configuration, along with the applicable lumen-maintenance assumptions and photometric data. If the supplier changes the LED board, optic or color temperature during value engineering, require a revised calculation rather than accepting the original layout by name alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3,000K and 4,000K
Cyclone names 3,000K and 4,000K as standard color temperatures. A 3,000K selection is often considered when a warmer appearance is desired in pedestrian or civic environments; 4,000K can provide a cooler visual character that may align with existing roadway or campus lighting. The choice should follow the owner’s standard, nearby fixtures, visibility goals and local dark-sky or nuisance-light rules. Confirm color-rendering and chromaticity data in the submittal because the announcement does not provide those values.
Colors and textures
Standard and complementary colors, custom RAL color matches, and smooth or textured finishes are described. A custom RAL match can help coordinate poles, site furniture or architectural elements, but it may affect cost, schedule or minimum order quantities. Obtain written confirmation of the finish, gloss or texture, and availability for the selected output and optic.
Optics that fit real site layouts
More than 13 distribution types
The Valenza announcement lists more than thirteen distribution types, including symmetrical, asymmetrical and crosswalk options. A symmetrical distribution can suit an area where the luminaire is centered over the zone to be lit. An asymmetrical distribution can push light toward a roadway, path or edge when the pole is offset. A crosswalk distribution is named for pedestrian crossing applications, where the optical pattern must support visibility across a defined crossing rather than simply illuminate the pole’s immediate surroundings.
These labels are not substitutes for a photometric file. Ask for the IES file or equivalent data for the exact distribution and LED package, then model the pole height, setback, spacing, pavement classification and surrounding obstructions.

House shields and backward optics are listed options. With the backward-optics option, Cyclone says precision optics can be turned in 90-degree increments, allowing two distribution types within one light engine. The manufacturer’s example is a road beside an adjacent sidewalk or bike path: one part of the engine can address the roadway while the adjusted portion directs light toward the neighboring route.

This feature can reduce the need to use separate luminaires for every edge condition, but it does not eliminate the need for a calculation. Confirm which two distributions can be combined in the proposed configuration, how the optics are oriented relative to the pole and roadway, and whether shielding is required to control backlight or glare.
Matching the luminaire to common outdoor settings
Parks and pathways
Start with pedestrian comfort, path continuity and preservation of dark surroundings. The 45-LED ambient-light option may be relevant, but a path with intersections, stairs or a shared-use function may need a higher-output package or a directional optic. Model trees, benches, signs and future landscaping because they can block or redirect light.
Urban squares and courtyards
Urban squares and courtyards often place poles near building façades, seating and active uses. A symmetrical pattern may support an open central area, while an asymmetrical pattern can keep light on the public zone when poles sit near an edge. Review vertical illumination and unwanted light on windows; the announcement does not publish measured glare or spill-light values.
Roads and bike paths
Roadway and bike-path projects are where the backward-optics concept can be useful. Map the road, shoulder, sidewalk or bike path as separate calculation areas. Specify the required class or performance criteria, then test the selected distribution and 90-degree orientation in the model. A higher-performance 90-LED board may be considered, but spacing and mounting geometry determine whether it meets the target.
Campuses and transit spaces
Campuses and transit areas combine pedestrian circulation, vehicles, entrances and security-sensitive locations. Use the distribution that follows each circulation line, coordinate 3,000K or 4,000K with existing campus standards, and check light at platform edges, crossings and accessible routes. Confirm whether the owner requires a particular control, emergency-lighting interface or finish; those details are not stated in the product announcement.
Parking lots
For parking lots, calculate both the driving aisles and the pedestrian routes from accessible parking, building entrances and transit stops. A broad optic may cover stalls while a directional or crosswalk optic handles a crossing. Verify that the selected package does not create excessive light trespass at property boundaries.

Environmental and appearance considerations
The product announcement describes a sealed, injection-molded acrylic lens assembly rated IP66. IP66 indicates the published ingress-protection classification for that lens assembly; it does not replace a review of the complete luminaire, pole, wiring method, foundation and site exposure. Coastal air, de-icing chemicals, dust, vandalism risk and maintenance access should be addressed in the project specification.
Cyclone describes all Valenza luminaire options as dark sky friendly. Treat that as the manufacturer’s product positioning, not as automatic approval under every jurisdiction. Confirm the local ordinance, required uplight or backlight limits, shielding rules and any certification or compliance documentation requested by the authority having jurisdiction.
How to specify Valenza for a project
- Define the lighting zones. Draw separate areas for roads, bike paths, sidewalks, crossings, plazas, parking stalls and building edges. Record pole locations, mounting heights, setbacks and obstructions.
- Set the performance criteria. Identify the applicable roadway, pedestrian, campus or parking standard, including average and minimum illuminance, uniformity, glare and light-trespass limits.
- Select the LED board. Consider the 45-LED board for the manufacturer’s ambient-illumination applications and the 90-LED board for higher-performance applications, then verify the choice in photometric calculations.
- Choose the delivered-output package. Select the required value within the published 2,400–20,000-lumen range based on calculated results, not pole count or a rule of thumb.
- Choose distributions and shielding. Compare symmetrical, asymmetrical, crosswalk and other available distributions. Add a house shield or backward optics where the layout requires control of backlight or a combined road-and-path pattern.
- Orient backward optics. If used, document the 90-degree increment orientation and the two intended distribution types on the plan and in the luminaire schedule.
- Coordinate appearance. Select 3,000K or 4,000K, color, RAL match and smooth or textured finish in consultation with the owner and architect.
- Obtain project-specific documentation. Request the exact submittal, IES photometry, dimensions, mounting details, controls information and environmental documentation for the proposed configuration.
- Confirm procurement terms. Ask Cyclone Lighting or an authorized supplier to verify regional availability, current pricing, lead time, warranty, minimum quantities and whether every selected option is offered together.
What is not established by the published announcement
The available manufacturer material does not establish a current price, retail stock, lead time, warranty coverage, regional availability, installation requirements, energy-savings result, measured illuminance or a single universal photometric file. It also does not prove that every combination of board, output, optic, color temperature, shield and finish can be ordered in every market.
For a bid or construction submittal, require written commercial terms and the exact configuration from Cyclone or the authorized supplier. Require the lighting designer to approve any substitution that changes the board, optic, color temperature or delivered output.
Manufacturer and award context
Cyclone identifies itself as an Acuity Brands company and says it designs, develops and manufactures outdoor luminaires and accessories at a production facility north of Montreal. On April 16, 2025, Cyclone announced that Valenza received a Red Dot Award for Product Design. The award recognizes product design; it is not a photometric test, installation certification or guarantee of project performance.
