If you bought an Elgas Swap N Go 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinder from Bunnings Geraldton on 11 September 2024, stop using it immediately and disconnect it from any appliance. Elgas’s recall notice says the cylinder may have been overfilled. Contact Elgas to arrange collection and a free replacement.
Which Bunnings gas cylinders are included?
The recall is limited to Elgas Ltd Swap N Go branded 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinders supplied from Bunnings Geraldton, Western Australia, on Wednesday 11 September 2024. The ACCC Product Safety recall advertisement, dated 4 October 2024, lists the date sold as 11 September 2024: official recall notice.
- Brand and size: Elgas Swap N Go, 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinder.
- Store: Bunnings Geraldton, Western Australia.
- Supply date: 11 September 2024.
The notice does not extend this recall to other Swap N Go cylinders, other Bunnings stores or cylinders supplied on other dates. Bunnings’ current product-recalls index does not display this older Geraldton event among the entries inspected, so use the ACCC notice for the incident details.
Why is the cylinder being recalled?
The cylinder may have been overfilled, which could cause gas to escape through its safety valve. Escaping gas can ignite if it meets an ignition source, creating a risk of burns and property damage. The notice also warns that liquid LPG could flow into an attached appliance and catch fire or explode. Direct contact with escaping gas can cause cold burns.

What should you do if your cylinder matches?
- Stop using it immediately. The recall notice’s instruction is: “Stop using the cylinder immediately and disconnect it from any appliance.”
- Disconnect it from the appliance. Follow the stop-use instruction in the official notice and do not resume use while arranging the remedy.
- Contact Elgas to arrange collection and a free replacement. The 4 October 2024 notice lists 0438 698 072 and [email protected]. As those details come from a notice dated 2024, verify current contact details with Elgas before relying on them.
The ACCC’s general advice for recalled products is to stop using the product and contact the supplier about a repair, replacement or refund. For this particular cylinder, the recall notice specifies collection and a free replacement. See ACCC guidance on responding to recalls.

Check the cylinder against all three details in the notice: Swap N Go branding and 8.5kg size, supply from Bunnings Geraldton, and the 11 September 2024 supply date. If you cannot establish whether it matches, contact Elgas and describe where and when you obtained it before using it again. The recall notice does not state how many cylinders were affected or provide an incident or injury count.
