Top Picks: The Best Glue for 3D Printing Projects in 2026

The best glue for a 3D print depends on the material and the load. Use medium CA for most rigid repairs, material-specific solvent welds for seamless compatible joints, epoxy for gaps and mixed materials, and mechanical fastening for difficult plastics or heavily loaded parts.

There is no single best glue for every 3D-printed part. For most small, rigid PLA or resin assemblies, start with a reputable medium-viscosity or gel cyanoacrylate (CA, commonly called super glue). Choose a material-specific plastic-welding adhesive such as 3D Gloop! when you want a close-fitting, same-material joint in PLA, PET-G, or ABS/ASA. Use two-part epoxy for gaps, plastic-to-metal joints, and heavily loaded rigid assemblies. For TPU, nylon, PP, and PE, test a specialty adhesive—but consider mechanical fastening or redesigning the joint first.

Top Picks: The Best Glue for 3D Printing Projects in 2026

Choosing adhesive for a 3D print starts with the filament, not the label on the bottle. PLA, PETG, ABS, nylon, TPU, engineering plastics, and cured resin have different surface chemistry and flex characteristics. A glue that works well on a rigid PLA bracket may peel from TPU, fail on nylon, or create a weak joint on glossy PETG.

The load matters just as much. A decorative model, a cracked enclosure, and a construction-site fixture may all need different solutions. Consider whether the joint will see shear, tension, impact, vibration, bending, heat, moisture, chemicals, outdoor exposure, or continuous load. Also consider whether the seam must be invisible and whether you need time to reposition the parts.

Quick comparison

Adhesive Best use Strengths Main limitations Safety or handling concern
Medium or gel CA Small rigid assemblies and repairs Fast, inexpensive, precise Can be brittle, poor at large gaps, may bloom Bonds skin quickly; cotton and some fabrics can heat dangerously
Thin CA Hairline cracks and close-fitting seams Wicks into narrow joints Runs easily and can stain visible surfaces Use sparingly with good airflow
Two-part epoxy Gaps, load-bearing joints, plastic-to-metal Gap filling, longer working time, rigid cured bond Mixing, slower cure, difficult cleanup Follow the resin and hardener instructions
Material-specific solvent weld Close-fitting PLA, PET-G, or ABS/ASA joints Can create an integrated, relatively seamless joint Can distort incompatible or delicate prints Solvent fumes, skin and eye protection, no open flames
Flexible adhesive TPU, TPE, and parts that flex Moves with the substrate Often slower, visible, and harder to sand Use the product’s substrate and cure guidance
UV resin Small repairs where light reaches the joint Controlled curing and detail work Opaque or enclosed joints may remain under-cured Protect skin and eyes from uncured resin

Prices and availability change by country and retailer. As a reference, the official 3D Gloop! shop listed 120 ml PLA, PET-G, and ABS/ASA bottles at $29.99 sale price ($34.99 regular) and 75 ml PLA and PET-G bottles at $24.99 when checked in August 2026. That premium can be worthwhile for broad, same-material seams, but generic CA is usually better value for occasional spot repairs.

Best overall: medium or gel CA

Medium-viscosity CA is the best starting point for most rigid 3D-printed parts. It is widely available, inexpensive, quick to apply, and effective for many close-fitting PLA, ABS, ASA, and resin joints. Gel CA is a better choice when the parts are vertical, the fit is slightly loose, or you need more control before the adhesive sets. Examples available in current comparison coverage include Gorilla Super Glue, Loctite Super Glue products, Starbond medium CA, and Bob Smith Industries Insta-Cure+.

  • Thin CA: Use on hairline cracks and tightly fitted seams where capillary action can carry adhesive into the joint.
  • Medium CA: The general-purpose compromise for many rigid assemblies.
  • Gel CA: Use on vertical surfaces, uneven fits, or joints where a runny adhesive would make a mess.

CA is less suitable for large gaps, repeated flexing, high peel loads, or difficult low-surface-energy plastics. It can also leave a glossy line or white haze, known as blooming, especially when too much adhesive is applied or vapour is trapped around a dark or highly finished part. Apply the minimum amount that wets the joint and allow airflow around the assembly.

Loctite’s 3D-printing guidance likewise recommends cleaning, drying, choosing an appropriate surface texture, applying the adhesive as directed, and holding or clamping the joint while it sets. Exact set and cure times are product-specific.

  • Wide Compatibility: With versatile adaptability, these 3D print glue sticks effectively adhere to various materials and printing bed surfaces, ensuring compatibility across diverse printing setups

Matching the formula to the printed plastic is essential. PETG and PCTG can be inconsistent with ordinary CA, making a PET-G-specific solvent adhesive worth considering for same-material work. Gloop! is less convenient for tiny spot repairs, mixed-material joints, and users who do not want to handle solvent products.

The product’s performance claims come from the manufacturer and should not be treated as an independent universal ranking. Its safety requirements are significant: the PLA Gloop! safety data sheet lists methylene chloride at 20–60% by weight and methyl acetate at 5–15%. Use the current product label and SDS, appropriate eye and skin protection, and effective ventilation. Do not use it casually in a poorly ventilated room.

A solvent weld can produce a cleaner integrated seam, but it can also attack fine details, soften thin walls, discolor surfaces, or distort an incompatible print. Test on a scrap piece made from the same filament before working on the final part.

Best for structural and gap-filling work: two-part epoxy

Two-part epoxy is the practical choice when the mating faces do not fit closely, when the joint must bridge a gap, or when plastic must bond to metal. It also gives more working time than CA, which helps with alignment of large assemblies. Examples identified in current coverage include Devcon Plastic Welder, J-B Weld, and Gorilla 2-Part Epoxy.

Mix the resin and hardener in the specified ratio, spread a controlled layer over prepared surfaces, align the parts, and clamp or support them without squeezing all the adhesive from the joint. Polymaker’s bonding guidance describes Devcon Plastic Welder as an option for higher-stress applications; an initial hold may be about 10 minutes, while full cure commonly takes 12–24 hours. Those times depend on the product, temperature, mix, and thickness.

Epoxy cures rigid. That is useful for a rigid bracket or a plastic-to-metal repair, but a poor match for TPU, TPE, hinges, or any part designed to bend. A rigid epoxy bead can concentrate stress at its edge and cause a flexible print to crack beside the glue line. Epoxy also takes longer to sand and remove, and an oversized fillet may remain visible after painting.

Best glue by printed material

PLA and PLA+

Medium or gel CA is the usual first choice for small PLA assemblies and repairs. Thin CA works well for tight cracks. Use epoxy where the faces are uneven, a gap must be filled, or metal is involved. For close-fitting same-material seams, a PLA-specific solvent adhesive can produce a more integrated joint, but it carries a greater risk of softening detail.

PETG and PCTG

Treat PETG and PCTG as their own category. Glossy surfaces and the material’s surface chemistry can make ordinary CA inconsistent. Lightly abrade and clean the joint where appropriate, then choose a PET-G-specific solvent adhesive for a same-material weld or epoxy for gaps, mixed materials, and larger structural joints.

  • LONG LASTING: Print several times on a single coating; recharge with a wet sponge to get more prints out of a single application; Cost pennies per print
  • LOW ODOR & WATER SOLUBLE: No harsh smells; No headaches; Easy to touch up or remove with water
  • NO-MESS APPLICATOR: Built in foam tip makes applying the coating to your build plate surface simple and it won't accidentally spill
  • WIDE FILAMENT COMPATIBILITY: Works with PLA, ABS, PETG, ASA, and CPE filaments for versatile 3D printing applications across multiple material types

A 3D Fuel comparison of Pro PCTG reported epoxy as the most reliable option in its practical comparison, with CA convenient for large rigid parts and PETG 3D Gloop! useful as a plastic-weld-style option. This was a manufacturer’s practical comparison, not a standardized laboratory tensile ranking. Test the exact filament, colour, print surface, and joint design you will use.

ABS and ASA

CA is convenient for small ABS or ASA repairs. For close-fitting same-material assemblies, compatible solvent cement, ABS slurry, or ABS/ASA Gloop! can create a more integrated bond. Acetone-based approaches may produce fumes, soften surfaces, distort thin walls, and introduce fire and handling hazards. Solvent compatibility is material-specific; do not assume a solvent that works on ABS will work equally on PLA, PETG, or nylon. The Loctite guide notes that some plumber’s cement may suit ABS, PLA, and HIPS but not PETG or nylon.

TPU and TPE

Choose a flexible adhesive or redesign the connection mechanically. Rigid CA and standard epoxy can become hard inclusions that crack or peel as the part flexes. Increase overlap, round transitions, and load the joint in shear rather than peel where possible. A strap, pin, screw, or printed reinforcement may be more dependable than adhesive alone.

Nylon and PA

Ordinary CA may produce a weak or unreliable bond on nylon. Specialty primers and adhesives can help, but product-specific evidence and a test joint are essential. For a loaded nylon part, mechanical fastening—such as screws, captive hardware, pins, or a keyed interface—should usually be considered before relying on glue.

PC, PP, PE, and filled engineering filaments

Polycarbonate, polypropylene, polyethylene, PEKK, PEI, and other engineering materials require product-specific compatibility checks. PP and PE have low surface energy and are particularly difficult for ordinary adhesives. Mechanical fastening or a purpose-designed primer-and-adhesive system is often the safer route. Fiber-filled materials add another complication: sanding may expose fibres, and bonding the polymer matrix does not necessarily bond those fibres well. Henkel’s 3D-printing bonding guide illustrates the breadth of substrates that need separate consideration.

SLA, DLP, and MSLA resin

Wash and fully post-cure resin parts before bonding. Thin or medium CA is convenient for miniature assembly and small detail repairs, but excess CA can bloom on visible surfaces. UV resin can work when light reaches the repair from the required directions; an opaque or deeply enclosed joint may remain under-cured. Epoxy is useful for gaps and mixed-material repairs. Wear suitable protection when handling uncured resin and follow the resin and adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.

Mixed-material joints

For plastic-to-metal, plastic-to-wood, or other mixed-material joints, two-part epoxy is the most useful general starting point because it fills small gaps and is designed for broader substrate combinations. Prepare each surface according to the adhesive’s instructions. Do not infer outdoor, waterproof, food-contact, or high-temperature suitability from a general claim that the adhesive bonds plastic.

How to glue a 3D print correctly

  1. Dry-fit first. Confirm alignment, identify gaps, and decide whether pins, screws, or a keyed joint would improve the connection.
  2. Prepare the surfaces. Remove dust, grease, support residue, and loose material using a cleaner compatible with both the print and adhesive.
  3. Flatten or abrade when suitable. Light sanding can improve mechanical keying for CA or epoxy. Solvent welds generally need clean, close-fitting faces rather than heavily textured surfaces.
  4. Remove sanding dust. Dust can prevent intimate contact and weaken the bond.
  5. Apply the minimum useful amount. Excess CA increases blooming and mess; excess solvent increases distortion; excess epoxy increases cure time and seam size.
  6. Align and hold. Use a jig, clamp, tape, or temporary support. Keep adhesive away from moving interfaces.
  7. Respect the full cure. A part that feels set may not be ready for load, sanding, painting, heat, or impact.
  8. Test before deployment. Make a sacrificial joint from the same material and load it in the direction the final assembly will experience.

When glue is the wrong answer

A flat butt joint places excessive stress on a thin glue line. If the part matters structurally, design the print so the adhesive is not doing all the work:

  • Pins or dowels: Improve alignment and resist shear.
  • Lap joints and keyed overlaps: Increase bonding area and reduce peel.
  • Dovetails or snap fits: Provide positive mechanical retention, with adhesive used only as reinforcement.
  • Screws and heat-set inserts: Better for serviceable, adjustable, or continuously loaded assemblies.
  • Printed brackets and gussets: Spread loads over a larger area.
  • Filament welding or a 3D-printing pen: Can reinforce a same-material seam, but heat can warp thin walls and visible surfaces.

For construction-related fixtures, jigs, covers, and functional parts, account for layer orientation as well as adhesive choice. A strong adhesive cannot compensate for weak interlayer bonding, a thin wall, or a joint loaded in peel. If failure could cause injury, property damage, or loss of control, use a properly engineered mechanical connection and treat adhesive as supplementary unless the complete system has been validated.

Common failures and fixes

Problem Likely cause Recovery
Parts separate after curing Contamination, poor fit, too little area, wrong chemistry, insufficient cure, or peel loading Remove cured adhesive, refit or enlarge the joint, add pins or fasteners, prepare the surfaces, and retest with epoxy, a compatible solvent, or flexible adhesive.
CA turns white Too much adhesive, trapped vapour, poor airflow, or excessive accelerator Allow full cure, then carefully scrape or sand; prime and paint if appropriate. Use less adhesive and improve airflow next time.
Solvent weld melts the print Incompatible material, too much solvent, excessive dwell time, or delicate walls Stop applying solvent, let the part harden and evaporate, then sand or rebuild. Switch to CA or epoxy if welding is unsuitable.
Epoxy stays soft or sticky Wrong ratio, incomplete mixing, low temperature, age, or excessive thickness Remove the uncured material, clean the joint, mix a fresh batch precisely, and cure at the specified temperature and time.
Flexible part cracks beside the bond Rigid adhesive, small bond area, stress concentration, or repeated bending Use a flexible adhesive, increase overlap, round the transition, and add mechanical reinforcement.

Safety, storage, and handling

  • Use ventilation appropriate to the product. Solvent adhesives are not harmless simply because they are sold for 3D printing.
  • Wear suitable eye and skin protection and follow the current label and safety data sheet.
  • CA bonds skin rapidly. Keep it away from eyes and avoid contact with cotton or wool, which can heat rapidly when exposed to CA.
  • Keep solvent products away from ignition sources and store them as directed.
  • Handle uncured resin with the protection specified by its manufacturer; washing and post-curing are part of preparing resin prints.
  • Keep adhesive caps and nozzles clean, close containers promptly, and follow storage and shelf-life guidance. A partially cured nozzle or degraded adhesive can cause an apparent compatibility failure.

Do not confuse Bambu Lab Liquid Glue with assembly adhesive. It is a build-plate product used to influence first-layer adhesion and release. It is not a general-purpose product for joining finished prints.

What to buy

  • One-bottle starter: Medium or gel CA for most small rigid PLA, ABS, ASA, and resin assemblies.
  • Two-adhesive workshop: Medium CA for quick work plus two-part epoxy for gaps, metal, and higher-load rigid joints.
  • Material-specific setup: Add PLA, PET-G, or ABS/ASA Gloop! when you regularly build same-material parts and want a plastic-welded seam.
  • Difficult or flexible materials: Buy only a specialty product that explicitly covers the substrate, make a test joint, and keep mechanical fastening available.
  • Useful accessories: Fine abrasive paper, lint-free wipes, disposable applicators, clamps or alignment jigs, and suitable gloves.

Choose by compatibility, loading, gap size, cure time, appearance, safety, availability, and repairability—not bottle price alone. A $30 material-specific adhesive may save a failed broad assembly, while an inexpensive CA remains the sensible choice for a small, close-fitting repair.
