Three major Greenville-area projects are at different stages of progress: Greenville County Square has entered vertical construction, plans for the downtown Falls Park Conference District are moving toward design review, and the Bolden Street District has begun demolition. The schedules and project details below were reported by Greenville News in an October 5, 2026 story republished by AOL; they have not been independently verified, and projected dates are not guarantees.
How the three projects differ right now
| Project | Reported milestone | Scale and planned uses | Reported next steps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Greenville County Square | Entered vertical construction | About 40 acres; housing, offices, retail, county services | Phase one includes 10 mixed-use buildings and three parking decks; vertical construction expected over the next three years |
| Falls Park Conference District | Design plans unveiled September 30, 2026 | Planned $500 million mixed-use development on a six-acre parking lot; conference center, hotel, residences, underground parking and green space | Design Review Board review was scheduled for October 15, 2026; demolition was expected by year-end, with completion aimed for 2029 |
| Bolden Street District | Groundbreaking on September 23, 2026 marked the start of demolition | 92 acres; planned neighborhoods, offices, restaurants, entertainment and retail | Demolition expected through year-end; infrastructure work was expected in 2027, taking 9 to 12 months |
These are not interchangeable construction statuses. County Square is reported to have moved into building construction; the conference-center district was approaching a design review; and Bolden Street was beginning site demolition ahead of later infrastructure work.
Greenville County Square: vertical construction begins
The redevelopment covers about 40 acres south of downtown along University Ridge and Church Street, according to the Greenville News report. Two interconnected buildings completed in 2023 already house county offices and services. The next phase adds housing, office and retail space.
What phase one is planned to include
The report describes a first phase with 10 mixed-use buildings and three parking decks. Planned buildings include a seven-story mixed-use residential building and a six-story residential building, each with ground-floor retail; a single-story Whole Foods; three-story and two-story retail and office buildings; and two restaurant-oriented buildings.

Bolden Street District: demolition precedes infrastructure work
The Bolden Street District is described as a 92-acre development off Laurens Road and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, extending from Verdae Village to Haywood Road. A September 23, 2026 groundbreaking marked the start of demolition, which was expected to continue through the end of the year.
Planned uses and schedule
Plans call for three neighborhoods, offices, restaurants, entertainment venues and other retail. Verdae Development is the developer named in the report; Hollingsworth Funds, its parent organization, owns the land.
Roads and utility connections were among the infrastructure work expected to start in 2027 and take 9 to 12 months. Building pads were projected to be ready by the end of 2027. The timeline is attributed in the report to Verdae Development CEO Dan Klausner and should be read as a projection.
At the groundbreaking, Greenville City Council member Wil Brasington said: “We are creating a distinct and unique place here, a place where people can naturally cross paths, a place where families can gather, where neighbors can connect, where businesses can grow, and where green spaces and public areas become a part of everyday life. That is what community building looks like.”
