A 2017 report described it as a system intended to print structures from a paste made with locally sourced material, then mill the hardened forms for a more precise finish. The account presents a project and its design intent, not proof of a currently available or production-ready machine.
What was Mille?
Maker Faire Orlando visitor and Make: writer Caleb Kraft reported on Mille on January 5, 2017. The system was designed to be transported to a site and begin manufacturing structures after arrival. Its container housed the servers, electronics, and mechanical structure for large-scale 3D printing followed by milling. In that sense, the container was the enclosure for a mobile manufacturing cell, rather than a shipping container with an ordinary printer placed inside it. Kraft’s Make: report describes the project.

How did the print-and-mill process work?
- Deposit a rough form: Mille extruded a paste made from a proprietary binding agent and locally sourced material. Kraft reported that this first pass was not high resolution.
- Let the material harden: The printed form needed to harden before finishing.
- Mill it to refine the part: A milling head removed material from the hardened form to produce more precise parts than the initial print.
This hybrid approach paired additive manufacturing, which builds up material, with subtractive machining, which cuts material away. The article does not identify the binder or the locally sourced material, so the mixture’s composition should not be inferred.
Why put the gantry inside the container?
Marcos Cruz designed Mille’s custom CNC gantry. Kraft described it as servo-controlled and mounted to one wall of the container. That arrangement was intended to reduce the need for recalibration after the system was moved. It is a design rationale reported in 2017, not a published measurement of how much calibration time or accuracy the system achieved after transport.

What is known about Mille’s availability today?
The 2017 report says the team was still working toward its desired print-and-mill quality. Its hope to share the system early that year was an expectation at the time; it does not establish that Mille launched, reached a particular production capability, or is available now. The report gives no measured figures for speed, dimensional accuracy, cost, or throughput.
A MilleBot, Inc. profile on LinkedIn, accessed October 4, 2026, describes made-to-order containerized digital-manufacturing systems and lists additive, subtractive CNC, hybrid, and multi-process configurations. That company-level description does not verify that the specific Mille shown in the 2017 report remains available under that name, or establish current specifications or purchase terms.

What the project does—and does not—show
- It shows a design concept: a transportable, containerized cell that combined paste-based printing with milling.
- It describes a material strategy: using locally sourced material with a proprietary binder, without naming the ingredients.
- It does not establish construction performance: the source provides no verified production results or quantified performance benchmarks.
- It does not establish current product status: later company-profile wording is not confirmation that the exact 2017 Mille system is on sale or operational today.
