In the design documented by High Voltages, 24 electrical jacks sit beneath a synthetic mat, with an Arduino Mega, Raspberry Pi 3, ultrasonic sensors and relays coordinating changes in height. It is a maker project—not a finished product or a retail putting-green kit.
How the moving putting surface works
The concept is mechanical: change the height of supports beneath the putting surface to alter its slope and shape. Raising or lowering individual jacks changes the terrain, allowing the player to practice on different contours without rebuilding the floor for each setup.
High Voltages’ project page lists 24 electrical jacks, 24 HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors and 24 high-power relay shields, along with an Arduino Mega and a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. The creator describes the Arduino reading the ultrasonic sensors and sending data to the Raspberry Pi over serial communication. In the documented arrangement, the Pi provides a graphical interface and connects to the relays; the relays switch power to control the jacks. What the project could make possible
Adjustable supports could let a user configure different putting-surface topologies, from a relatively level area to a surface with changing slopes. Hackster News floated the possibility of reproducing famous greens, but the available project documentation presents that as an aspiration, not a demonstrated feature. It was documented as a work in progress
The creator’s May 20, 2019 project page labels the build “in progress” and says: “I am still working on the project and I will update the tutorial once I am done completely.” Hackster News likewise described it as under development, with the synthetic material still to be laid over the jacks. The cited documentation does not establish that the project was later completed or specify a safe load capacity for the platform.
What a construction-minded builder should evaluate
The project’s parts list is a useful starting point, not a ready-to-build specification. A real platform would need coordinated mechanical, electrical and control design. The sources do not provide comparative measurements or detailed construction specifications, so choices would need to be validated for the intended surface and loads.

- Jack capacity and travel: Verify each actuator’s load rating, stroke, mounting requirements and suitability for coordinated movement.
- Surface support: Determine how a flexible putting surface will span the supports without sagging, forming abrupt ridges or pinching as heights change.
- Height measurement: Establish whether the sensor arrangement can measure jack position reliably in the actual build and how the system will respond to inconsistent readings.
- Electrical compatibility: Match relays, jack motors, power supplies and protective devices to the electrical loads; include appropriate safeguards for moving machinery.
- Control complexity: Plan how the interface will command positions, limit movement and handle faults. The creator names an Arduino Mega, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, Raspbian and MQTT, but does not provide a complete, validated construction plan.
The components named by the creator—an Arduino Mega, Raspberry Pi 3, HC-SR04 sensors, relay shields, electrical jacks and a synthetic putting surface—identify the project’s general approach. They do not establish current availability, compatibility across specific models or a complete bill of materials. The moving green itself is not documented as a purchasable kit.

Hackster News describes a 3-by-18 arrangement while also reporting 24 jacks, figures that do not agree. The creator’s page independently gives the count of 24 jacks but does not establish the grid dimensions. The supported description is therefore a surface built on 24 independently controlled jacks, without assigning those jacks a confirmed grid layout.
