Also check the route into the room. Measure doorways, stair turns, elevator openings, and the place where the boxed tree will be stored. A tree may fit when assembled but still be awkward to carry through a narrow hallway. Safety checks before assembly and every season
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends looking for a “fire resistant” label when buying an artificial tree. That label does not make a tree fireproof, so keep the tree away from fireplaces, heaters, candles, radiators, and other heat sources.
- Inspect the stand and tighten all fasteners before decorating.
- Place the tree on a stable, level surface where it cannot block an exit or become a trip hazard.
- Keep cords away from walkways and protect them from pets and children.
- Use the electrical load permitted by the outlet and power strip.
