Instead, the clearest picture comes from comparing brand forecasts with exterior-specific palettes: Sherwin-Williams highlighted blues, greens and delicate tints; Benjamin Moore named Blue Nova its 2024 Color of the Year; and Behr published 30 exterior paint, stain and spray-paint colors with example combinations for siding, trim and doors.
What “top” means in the 2024 exterior color trends
The brands’ lists are forecasts and curated examples, not a shared sales ranking. Benjamin Moore’s and Sherwin-Williams’ 2024 palettes cover broader color trends, while Behr’s Curb Appeal Collection specifically focuses on exterior applications. Treat them as sources of ideas rather than proof that one shade was the most popular nationwide.

Sherwin-Williams: blues, greens and soft tints
Sherwin-Williams called its 2024 forecast Anthology: Volume One. The company describes it as a biennial forecast of 48 hues grouped by color family, not an exterior-only selection. Examples shown include Stardew SW 9138 and Pewter Green SW 6208. Its lookbook is dated June 2023, so this is the company’s forecast for 2024, not a report of colors consumers chose during that year. Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing, said the forecast’s leading shades included “blues and greens to delicate tints.” For a home exterior, consider those hues in relation to the fixed colors around them rather than assuming an interior trend will suit every facade.
Benjamin Moore: Blue Nova and a broad supporting palette
Benjamin Moore named Blue Nova 825 its 2024 Color of the Year. The accompanying Color Trends palette also includes White Dove OC-17, Pristine OC-75, Topaz 070, Teacup Rose 2170-50, Honeybee CSP-950, Regent Green 2136-20, Antique Pewter 1560, Polar Sky 1674 and Hazy Lilac 2116-40. This is a general color-trends palette; Benjamin Moore does not identify every shade as an exterior recommendation. Its 2024 Color of the Year announcement also cautions that colors shown on screens or in print may differ from actual paint.

Behr: exterior combinations, dark trim and Tugboat stain
Behr’s 2024 Curb Appeal Collection featured 30 exterior paint, stain and spray-paint colors. The company named Tugboat its 2024 Exterior Stain Color of the Year. Its examples include Jungle Camouflage siding with Cracked Pepper trim, and Canyon Dusk siding with Smoky White trim and a Nocturne Blue door. These are brand-selected combinations, not universal prescriptions.
Behr also named Cracked Pepper PPU18-01 its 2024 Color of the Year, describing it as a soft black. In its exterior examples, the shade appears on trim. Behr’s announcement said the color was available in several of its paint formulas at Home Depot stores nationwide at the time; that historical statement does not establish current inventory or formulation. How to choose a palette for your home
A trend color is only one part of an exterior scheme. Judge it alongside the materials and features that will remain in place: roofing, brick, stone, windows, garage doors and other fixed finishes. Benjamin Moore says most homeowners use three to four exterior colors, often distributing them across the body, trim, garage door, shutters and windows.

Behr reported that 55% of homeowners said choosing a color was the biggest hurdle when starting an exterior project. That figure came from a Behr-commissioned online survey of 1,007 U.S. homeowners aged 18 and older, conducted March 20–28, 2024, with a stated margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points; it is not a general industry study.

Test colors before committing
- Shortlist a few candidates. Start with colors that work with the home’s permanent materials and the contrast you want between siding, trim and accents.
- Get physical samples. Sherwin-Williams offers samples for its forecast colors. Sample boards or paint samples let you assess the actual paint instead of relying on a screen or printed swatch.
- View each sample on site. Compare it on the relevant exterior surface and in the lighting where it will be seen. Digital and printed representations can vary from the finished paint color, as Benjamin Moore notes.
- Check the complete combination. Evaluate the body color with proposed trim and door shades before buying larger quantities. Confirm current formula and availability with the manufacturer or retailer if you select a historical 2024 color.
