How to clean those spots quickly
This sequence is a practical routine, not a timed or tested protocol. Keep the cleaning focused: work through the touchpoints, wipe the sink and toilet, then deal with visible dirt on the floor or other surfaces.
- Wipe touchpoints: Clean the light switch, door handle, dispenser controls, faucet handles and toilet flush control.
- Clean the sink: Wipe the basin and faucet, including around the handles and basin edge.
- Clean the toilet touchpoints: Wipe the seat and flush control, along with nearby handles.
- Address visible soil: Pick up visible dirt along floor edges and clean any other visibly dirty surfaces.
- Use a suitable cleaner: For routine cleaning, use soap or detergent and water, with a product appropriate for each surface.

When is disinfectant necessary?

How often should you clean these areas?
CDC household guidance supports regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces and cleaning other surfaces when visibly dirty, but it does not prescribe a universal bathroom-cleaning timetable for homes. The facility guidance’s minimum schedules—private patient toilets at least daily and shared or public patient toilets at least twice daily—apply to healthcare settings, not household bathrooms.
