The flower chosen by the City of Paris as a botanical symbol of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games was a bright vermilion dahlia from Parc Floral de Paris. It was not one entry in an official ranking: the City’s account identifies this dahlia, while other blooms for a party palette are personal choices inspired by the Games.
What flower represented the 2024 Olympics?
The City of Paris selected the Parc Floral de Paris dahlia as a botanical symbol of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Its bright vermilion color was chosen to echo the Olympic flame. The City reported that more than 50,000 dahlias would be used in floral displays across Paris for the Games, including near Olympic sites. City of Paris, Sustainable Development Annual Report 2023 (published 19 September 2024).
The report describes a regional plant selection that was first grown in vitro and then cultivated without pesticides in municipal greenhouses and nurseries. The planned displays included arrangements in Paris districts and near sites such as the Jardin des Champs-Élysées, with municipal florists displaying the flowers. This account concerns the dahlias described by the City; it does not establish that every Paris 2024 arrangement used only this variety or that all Games flowers were pesticide-free.
How to use the dahlia for a Paris 2024-inspired gathering
Make vermilion dahlias the floral centerpiece
For the clearest connection to the City’s choice, use bright vermilion or orange-red dahlias as the main flower in a vase, table arrangement, or viewing-party display. The color link to the flame is the City’s stated rationale, rather than a general Olympic floral tradition.

Choose other blooms as personal accents
If the exact Parc Floral cultivar is unavailable, other dahlias can provide a similar look. Treat them as Paris 2024-inspired alternatives, not as the official cultivar. Seasonal flowers in blue, white, and red can complement the vermilion for a French tricolor palette, but that is a decorating idea—not an official floral association. Season, local availability, price, and vase life vary, and the City report does not establish current retail availability of its cultivar.
Extend the visual theme beyond flowers
Paris 2024’s wider imagery offers additional décor cues. The emblem combined a gold medal, a flame, and Marianne; the torch’s themes were equality, water, and peacefulness, according to the Hong Kong Olympic Committee’s Paris 2024 overview. These are Games symbols, distinct from the dahlia’s role as the City’s botanical symbol.

When were the Paris 2024 Games?
The Summer Olympics in Paris ran from 26 July to 11 August 2024, as listed by the Hong Kong Olympic Committee. The Games are over, so the City’s planting plans describe a past event, not a current display schedule.

Medals provide another Paris-specific motif for a celebration: each included a piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower. The City of Paris reported 5,084 medals and specified that each contained 18 grams of Eiffel Tower iron. Its 7 June 2024 explanation listed dimensions of 85 mm in diameter and 9.2 mm thick; the weights were 529 g for gold, 525 g for silver, and 455 g for bronze. These details describe the medals, not the flower display. City of Paris, “Olympic medals: part history, part Eiffel Tower”, updated 7 June 2024.
