Honeywell’s general ASHRAE-based guidance is: 250–350 sq. ft. = 8,000 BTU; 350–450 = 10,000 BTU; 450–550 = 12,000 BTU; 550–700 = 14,000 BTU — Honeywell, 2026. These are guidelines, not a guarantee of a particular room temperature or an independent performance result. Honeywell says windows, insulation, appliances, ceiling height, and occupancy can affect the capacity needed; direct sun and open spaces also matter. - Capacity: Match the listed rating to room size and conditions rather than choosing the largest number by default.
- Exhaust setup: Compare single- or dual-hose construction only where the exact model listing specifies it, and make sure the installation kit works with your window or other suitable outlet.
- Heating: Some models are listed with heat-pump heating. Confirm that the exact unit has this function if you need it; do not infer heating from the brand or model family.
- Controls: Smart/Wi-Fi and voice controls are listed on selected models. Check the exact product description for which controls are included.
- Practical fit: Check model-specific dimensions, weight, mobility, and operating noise in the product documentation. The cited collection does not establish comparable noise or efficiency test results.

Will the venting kit fit your window?
Portable AC cooling requires an exhaust route. Honeywell says the venting kit must be installed for the unit to work correctly in AC mode. The exhaust hose typically vents through a window, and the opening must accommodate the supplied kit. Keep the hose straight and do not lengthen it; Honeywell Home says it may be shortened if needed. Honeywell says portable models generally include a hose and venting kit, so an add-on kit is not automatically necessary. If the included kit does not fit, verify compatibility with the exact AC model before purchasing an alternative.

Drainage varies by model. Honeywell’s support FAQ directs owners to model-specific instructions for condensate and filter maintenance; do not assume every portable AC is maintenance-free or completely self-evaporating.
