No documented testing by Bettesworth Construction is available to support a house-tested ranking of six slow cookers. Instead, independent reviews point to different models for different needs: Food Network names the 7-quart All-Clad Gourmet Slow Cooker with All-in-One Browning its best overall, while its other picks prioritize crowds, large cuts of meat, and portability. Bon Appétit and Which? use separate test methods and do not establish a single shared winner. Here is what those reviews support—and how to choose for your kitchen.
How to read these slow cooker recommendations
The picks below are attributed to the publishers that tested or reviewed them; they are not a ranking from Bettesworth Construction. Food Network’s recommendations come from its tested group, Bon Appétit reports findings from its own evaluation, and Which? describes a broader test program but gates its detailed scores and recommendations. Because the groups, protocols, and criteria differ, their results are useful for matching a cooker to a particular job, not for declaring one universal winner.

Best overall in Food Network’s 2026 review: All-Clad Gourmet Slow Cooker with All-in-One Browning, 7-quart
Food Network’s 2026 review names this its best overall among the models it tested. The review highlights tender meat, stable temperature, quick simmering, versatile functions, and an easy digital interface. Its trade-offs are a high price and a large countertop footprint. That makes it a plausible fit for cooks who value flexible functions and have room to leave a larger appliance out.
#1 Best Overall
- Generous Capacity: 7-quart slow cooker that comfortably serves 9+ people or fits a 7-pound roast
- Cooking Flexibility: High or low slow cooking settings, with convenient warm function for ideal serving temperature
- Convenient: Set it and forget it feature enables you to cook while at work or performing daily tasks
- Minimal Clean-Up: One-pot cooking reduces dishes; lid and removable stoneware are dishwasher safe
- Versatile: Removable stoneware insert can be used in the microwave or an oven up to 400°F
For a crowd: Crock-Pot 8-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
Food Network recommends this 8-quart model for feeding a crowd, describing the capacity as suitable for groups larger than 10. That is the publisher’s use guidance, not a guarantee that every recipe or serving size will stretch to that number. Consider the larger capacity when you regularly cook for gatherings; for smaller batches, match the pot to your usual recipe size rather than buying capacity you rarely need.
For large cuts of meat: Hamilton Beach Set & Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
Food Network’s guide highlights this 6-quart model for large pieces of meat. Its probe can be set to a chosen meat temperature and, according to the guide, trigger a switch to warm when that temperature is reached. That automatic transition is useful when the target is a specific internal temperature rather than a fixed cooking duration. Follow the model’s manual for probe placement and operation.
Rank #2
- Serves 10+ people
- 8-quart capacity
- HIGH/LOW cook settings
- Convenient WARM setting
- Removable oval stoneware
For taking food to a gathering: Crock-Pot 6-Quart Cook & Carry
Food Network recommends this model for transport and highlights its locking lid and gasket, features intended to reduce the risk of spills on the way to a potluck. A locking lid is not a reason to carry a full cooker carelessly: keep it upright and follow the manufacturer’s transport instructions.
For a ceramic nonstick pot: GreenLife Ceramic 6-Quart Nonstick Slow Cooker
Bon Appétit’s reviewer found this pot relatively easy to clean, but noted that the coating can scratch and that the exterior ran hot. Those caveats matter if you prefer a nonstick cooking surface or expect frequent cleanup: use utensils and cleaning methods suitable for the coating, and leave space around the appliance while it is operating.
Rank #3
- Cooking Capacity: Prepares food for over 10 people, making it a holiday dinner hosting essential.
- Digital Timer: Counts down cooking time up to 20 hours for easy monitoring.
- Auto Warm: Automatically keeps food warm after cooking for optimal serving temperature.
- Easy Cleanup: Features a removable, dishwasher-safe lid and stoneware pot for convenient cleaning.
- Memory Function: Resets to previous settings in case of a power outage.
Which? results: useful test scope, but no public winner to name
Which? says it tested 22 slow cookers, with tests conducted in July 2025 and November 2023. It assessed energy use, stew quality, ease of use, versatility, durability, cord length, and casing temperature. Its full scores and Best Buy recommendations require membership, so the available information does not support naming a Which? winner or inferring the models’ hidden rankings.
What matters most when choosing a slow cooker?
Cooking performance and temperature behavior
A cooker needs to heat food effectively without leaving it in unsafe conditions or boiling it so aggressively that texture suffers. Bon Appétit describes tracking temperatures in water tests and evaluating food texture and heat behavior alongside ease and design. These are different protocols from Food Network’s, so do not treat one publisher’s result as a direct head-to-head against another’s.
Rank #4
- 7 Cooking Functions: Pressure cook, slow cook, sauté, steam, make rice, yogurt, or simply keep your meal warm—all in one appliance
- Customizable Smart Programs: Tackle every recipe with 13 one-touch options, from hearty soups to decadent cakes
- Safe & Easy Steam Release: The Easy-Release steam switch ensures fast, safe, and simple steam release every time
- Good Food Done Faster: Cook up to 70% faster compared to slow cooking methods
- Pro-Grade Cooking Pot: Crafted from stainless steel (18/8) with a tri-ply bottom—perfect for searing and sautéing like a pro
Bon Appétit cites the USDA danger-zone range of 40°F–140°F and Michigan State University Extension guidance describing an approximate 185°F low-setting target. These figures are reported in the context of that review’s explanation of temperature testing; they are not a substitute for food-safety instructions for a specific recipe or appliance. Use the slow cooker’s manual and authoritative food-safety guidance when deciding how to handle ingredients and confirm doneness.

The reviewed choices span 6, 7, and 8 quarts. Capacity should fit both the number of people you cook for and the size and shape of the usual recipe. A larger pot may suit gatherings or large cuts, while a smaller household may get more consistent use from a size that matches everyday batches. Check the cooker’s manual for fill limits and recipe guidance.

Controls and automatic keep-warm
Programmable timers can make it easier to schedule a cooking period, and some models switch automatically to warm when the timer ends. Food Network describes a different kind of transition on the Hamilton Beach probe model: it can switch to warm when the meat reaches the selected temperature. Check which event triggers warm mode—elapsed time or probe temperature—rather than assuming all programmable cookers behave alike.
Cleaning, materials, and durability
Look at whether the cooking pot and lid are removable and what the manufacturer says about cleaning them. Bon Appétit’s GreenLife review illustrates why the surface matters: the reviewer found the pot relatively easy to clean but cautioned that its coating can scratch. Which? includes durability in its test criteria, but its detailed product scores are not publicly available on the cited page.
Footprint, portability, and everyday operation
Measure counter or storage space before choosing a large cooker; Food Network specifically notes the All-Clad’s large footprint. If you transport meals, a locking lid and gasket can help reduce spills, as with the Cook & Carry recommendation. Other practical details worth checking in the product specifications include weight, cord length, exterior temperature, and energy use. Which? evaluates several of these factors, but its public summary does not provide comparative figures for individual models.
Standard slow cookers versus multi-cookers
A multi-cooker may include a slow-cook setting, but that does not establish that it will cook like a standard slow cooker. Bon Appétit says recipes and results may differ in multi-cookers and excluded Instant Pots from direct comparison in its review. If slow cooking is your main use, compare products evaluated for that function and check recipe guidance for the specific appliance rather than assuming settings are interchangeable.
Food safety: frozen chicken and doneness
Food Network warns that frozen chicken generally should not go directly into an ordinary slow cooker because it may not reach a food-safe temperature quickly enough. The guide identifies a particular Hamilton Beach design as made for frozen meat; that exception should not be generalized to other slow cookers. For the appliance and recipe you use, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and established food-safety guidance, and use a food thermometer when appropriate.
