The best Roomba for most homes is the Roomba Plus 505 Combo. It is the safest all-round recommendation because independent hands-on testing found strong cleaning on hard floors and carpet, effective mopping, good pet-hair pickup, and an AutoWash dock that reduces routine maintenance. The newer Roomba Max 775 Combo is more advanced on paper, but it still needs broader independent testing before it can displace the 505 as the default choice.
This guide reflects the 2026 lineup announced by iRobot and available independent testing. Prices are volatile: listed prices below are signals observed around August 18, 2026, not guaranteed current or historical prices.

The Max 775 and Max 715 were announced on July 7, 2026, alongside the Plus 575, Plus 515, and Plus 415. They entered presale and were expected at select retailers later in July, so availability and test coverage can differ by region and retailer. See the official iRobot announcement for announced specifications and MSRP figures.
How we evaluated the 2026 Roomba lineup
A robot vacuum should not be ranked by suction marketing alone. Cleaning depends on agitation, airflow, sealing, debris type, navigation, repeated passes, and how consistently the robot completes its route. iRobot itself cautions that suction is only one part of cleaning performance in its support guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL CLEANING YOU CAN SEE—AND FEEL. The Roomba 105X devours dirt with 70X more power‑lifting suction* to pull embedded dust, crumbs, and pet hair from carpets and hard floors. .*Compared to Roomba 600 series robots.
- 3‑STAGE CLEANING SYSTEM. Combines intense suction, a Multi‑Surface brush, and an Edge‑Sweeping brush to leave floors truly barefoot‑clean—not just surface tidy.
- SMART LIDAR MAPPING = NO MISSED ROOMS. ClearView LiDAR maps your home quickly and cleans in neat, efficient rows, delivering consistent coverage instead of random paths.
- CONFIDENT CLEANING, DAY OR NIGHT. Avoids furniture, cords, and everyday obstacles—even in low light—so cleaning continues smoothly without getting stuck.
- CUSTOM ROOM‑BY‑ROOM CLEANING. Schedule cleans, target high‑traffic areas, adjust suction, and add extra passes where messes build up.
The recommendations below combine independent test results where available, official specifications for newly announced models, dock automation, floor-type suitability, maintenance burden, availability, and price volatility. A model described as “best” is best for a stated use case—not automatically the best robot vacuum on the entire market.
1. Roomba Plus 505 Combo: best overall
The Plus 505 Combo is the strongest evidence-backed default for a home with a mixture of carpet, rugs, and hard floors. Its AutoWash dock empties debris, manages clean and dirty water, washes the mop pads, and dries them. Tom’s Guide reported that the system can provide up to 75 days of largely hands-off dock maintenance, although actual intervals depend on floor area, pet hair, dirt levels, and how often the mop runs.
Tom’s Guide’s test scores show why the 505 is a defensible overall pick. Under that publication’s methodology, it scored 94.75 overall on hardwood and 88.9 overall on carpet. Its hardwood scores included 97.3 for Cheerios, 94.45 for kitty litter, and 92.5 for pet hair. On carpet, it scored 99.35 for Cheerios, 94.75 for kitty litter, and 72.5 for pet hair. These are publication-specific results, not universal industry benchmarks. The full test context is available from Tom’s Guide.

The 505 is particularly convincing when the buyer wants one appliance for daily vacuuming and regular wet cleaning. It also performed well on pet hair in hands-on testing, and the tester reported finding no dog hair tangled in the brush. That does not make it maintenance-free: owners still need to inspect brushes, filters, the dock tray, water tanks, and mop components.
Where the Plus 505 falls short
- Tom’s Guide reported occasional app glitches.
- Its debris-emptying cycle can be loud, which matters when the dock is near a bedroom or living area.
- Spot-cleaning behavior was inconsistent in testing; scheduled room cleaning may be more dependable for recurring messes.
- Carpet-only homes may pay for mop hardware they rarely use.
Buy it if: you want the safest current Roomba recommendation for mixed floors and reduced day-to-day maintenance.
2. Roomba Max 715 Vac: best vacuum-only Roomba
The Max 715 Vac is the better match for carpet-heavy homes, pet owners who already own a good mop, and buyers who do not want water tanks or wet-cleaning maintenance. iRobot announces 4× stronger power-lifting suction than the Roomba 105 Combo, an enhanced anti-tangle brush, ClearView Pro LiDAR, PrecisionVision AI obstacle avoidance, automatic mapping and room naming, and an AutoEmpty dock rated for up to three months of hands-free debris disposal.
Those are manufacturer comparisons and maintenance estimates, not proof of 4× better cleaning. The 715 is a promising premium vacuum-only model, but the Plus 505 has the stronger independent evidence in the supplied research.
For pets, the 715’s obstacle-recognition features may help with toys, cords, shoes, and other hazards. iRobot says PrecisionVision AI on the 715 and several related models can avoid objects including pet waste. Treat that as a useful safeguard, not a guarantee. Poor lighting, unusual shapes, occlusion, software errors, or a partially hidden mess can still cause a failure.
Buy it if: your priority is dry vacuuming, especially on carpet, and you prefer a simpler system over an integrated mop.
3. Roomba Max 775 Combo: best new premium Roomba
The Max 775 Combo is iRobot’s feature and specification leader for 2026. The company positions it as its most advanced robot, with ClearView Pro LiDAR, PrecisionVision AI obstacle avoidance, pet-zone detection, automatic mess adaptation, and an AutoWash dock. Its announced U.S. MSRP is $999.99.
It is the model to watch—not automatically the model to buy. The available evidence is weighted toward iRobot’s announcement rather than independent comparative testing. Until testing confirms that it cleans carpets, removes pet hair, navigates better, and maintains its dock more effectively than the Plus 505, the premium is paying for features and potential rather than proven value.
Before choosing the 775, check four things: whether independent testing has appeared, whether it is materially better on your floors, whether replacement bags and mop supplies are readily available, and whether the AutoWash convenience justifies the price difference during current sales.
Buy it if: you specifically value the newest navigation and automation features and accept that performance evidence is still developing.
4. Roomba Plus 575 Combo: best compact premium option
The Plus 575 Combo is aimed at homes where furniture clearance and thresholds are more important than maximum size or raw specifications. iRobot advertises it as 46% smaller than the Plus 505 by volume and says it can handle thresholds up to 35 mm. That 35-mm claim applies to the 575 and should not be generalized to the Plus 415 or Plus 515.
Rank #2
- UP TO 75 DAYS HANDS-FREE CLEANING. Dirt and dust stay gone because it empties into the AutoEmpty dock with a bag that traps 99% of allergens as small as 0.7 microns- That means no mess or cloud of dust when you empty it- Just drop the used bag into the trash and put a new one in the base.
- DEVOURS DIRT WITH 70X MORE POWER-LIFTING SUCTION. 3-Stage Cleaning includes 70X more power-lifting suction*, a Multi-Surface brush, and Edge-Sweeping brush to devour dirt and dust bunnies and leave floors barefoot clean *As compared to Roomba 600 series robots
- SUPER-SMART MAPPING AND NAVIGATION. ClearView LiDAR quickly maps your home to maximize coverage and provide a precise clean while steering smoothly around obstacles and specialized sensors prevent falling down stairs.
- FULLY CUSTOM & TARGETED CLEANING. Schedule and target rooms based on your daily routine and adjust the number of cleaning passes and levels of suction power.
- EASY-TO-USE ROOMBA HOME APP. Simply tap to set a custom clean, get time estimates, check on the filter life, or create keep-out zones to avoid specific areas.
Volume is not the same as height or footprint. Measure the clearance beneath sofas and beds, the width of tight passages, transition strips, rug edges, and floor registers. Also confirm that the dock fits where the robot can approach and leave it reliably. The 575 is an appealing compact premium option, but independent measurements and testing matter more than the percentage claim.
iRobot also advertises 3.5× stronger suction than the Plus 505 and 2× deeper scrubbing. These are manufacturer comparisons, not standardized industry measurements.
5. Roomba Plus 515 Combo: best for large homes on paper
The Plus 515 Combo is the most interesting 2026 model for a larger home that needs integrated vacuuming and mopping. iRobot rates it for up to 295 minutes of runtime and up to 2,000 square feet on one charge. It also advertises AutoWash mop-pad cleaning and drying.
“Up to” figures are best-case manufacturer ratings. Actual coverage changes with suction mode, floor type, room density, obstacles, thresholds, mop use, and whether the robot must recharge and resume. Large-home buyers should also verify multi-floor mapping, dock placement, water capacity, and whether the robot can complete the route without frequent intervention.
Buy it if: the published runtime and coverage fit your floor plan and you are comfortable waiting for broader independent testing.
6. Roomba Plus 415 Combo: lower-cost AutoWash option
The Plus 415 Combo brings AutoWash, LiDAR, spinning mop pads, and heated drying to a lower tier. iRobot advertises 2.8× stronger suction than the Roomba 105 Combo. Its compact form is advertised as 46% smaller than the Plus 505 by volume.
At its announced $599.99 MSRP, it is not automatically a budget buy. Compare its real sale price with the better-tested Plus 505 and with the 105 Vac if you do not need mopping. The 415 makes the most sense when its compact size and automated mop maintenance solve a specific problem.
7. Roomba Plus 405 Combo: best only at the right sale price
The Plus 405 Combo is a sale-dependent value pick. Official iRobot pages have shown it at both a $799.99 list price and a $399.99 limited-time price across different page snapshots. That difference is large enough to change the recommendation completely.
At a deep discount, the 405 can be a sensible way into an AutoWash system. If it is close in price to the better-tested 505, choose the 505 instead. Recheck the official iRobot catalog immediately before publication or purchase.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →8. Roomba 105 Vac: best budget vacuum
The Roomba 105 Vac is the entry-level vacuum-only model to consider. iRobot’s official page showed a $249.99 promotional price reduced from $449.99, while another page snapshot showed $279.99. These prices demonstrate why a date-stamped sale price is more useful than presenting one number as permanent.
The 105 Vac is most appropriate for smaller homes with straightforward floors and moderate debris. Buyers with large carpeted areas, heavy shedding, or demanding obstacle-avoidance needs should compare it with discounted midrange models before committing. If the 105’s sale price rises, its value advantage can disappear quickly.
Other current and entry-level models
Roomba 105 Combo
The 105 Combo is the least expensive route into a current vacuum-and-mop Roomba. Compare it directly with the Plus 415: the cheaper model may be sensible for occasional mopping, while the 415’s LiDAR, spinning pads, and heated drying may justify a higher price when those features matter.
Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo
The 205 DustCompactor Combo is designed around debris storage rather than the strongest independent performance evidence. It is worth considering if emptying frequency is your main concern, but the supplied research does not establish a comparative cleaning advantage.

Which Roomba is best for carpet?
For carpet-heavy homes, start with the Max 715 Vac. A vacuum-only design avoids paying for a mop you may rarely use and avoids wet-cleaning maintenance. Its announced anti-tangle brush, LiDAR, and obstacle-avoidance systems make it the premium vacuum-only candidate.
Rank #3
- DEVOURS DIRT WITH 70X MORE POWER-LIFTING SUCTION*. 3-Stage Cleaning includes 70X more power-lifting suction*, a Multi-Surface brush, and Edge-Sweeping brush to devour dirt and dust bunnies and leave floors barefoot clean. *As compared to Roomba 600 series robots

- EASY-TO-USE ROOMBA HOME APP. Simply tap to set a custom clean, get time estimates, check on the filter life, or create keep-out zones to avoid specific areas.
- EXTRA DIRT- SPOT CLEANING IS ON IT. Easily target the places where your floors need extra attention, with spot cleaning, your robot repeatedly cleans in one area for up to 5 minutes.
The Plus 505 remains a reasonable mixed-floor choice. Its carpet testing was strong for larger debris and kitty litter, but its pet-hair score on carpet was lower than its hardwood pet-hair result under Tom’s Guide’s methodology. If you have delicate rugs or carpet beside hard floors, configure no-mop zones or vacuum-only schedules where appropriate.
Older s-series or j-series models may be worthwhile only at a substantial discount. RTINGS reports that the older j7 is smarter than the s9 for hazard recognition and app automation, but has a less powerful suction motor and more difficulty with deeply embedded carpet debris. It also reports that the i3’s carpet pickup is not particularly impressive. See RTINGS’ iRobot review coverage for the older-model context.
Which Roomba is best for pets?
Choose based on more than pet-hair pickup. The important features are an anti-tangle brush, reliable hazard recognition, dirt detection, easy debris disposal, accessible filters and brushes, and a dock that does not become an odor source.

- Best premium feature set: Max 775 Combo, which iRobot says adds pet-zone detection and automatic mess adaptation, pending independent testing.
Never run a robot unattended around a puppy, an incontinent pet, or a heavily cluttered room just because the manufacturer advertises pet-waste avoidance. Pick up waste, cords, toys, socks, and clothing first.
Which Roomba is best for mopping?
For an integrated vacuum-and-mop system, the Plus 505 is the safest current recommendation because it combines AutoWash automation with independent hands-on evidence. The Max 775 is the premium alternative if its newer navigation and AI features are worth the untested premium.
The older Combo j9+ has a different advantage: its retractable mop lifts onto the top of the robot, helping it avoid wetting carpet. The trade-off is substantial manual maintenance—the mop pad must be removed and cleaned after each use. Newer AutoWash docks are more convenient but still require water management, tray cleaning, pad inspection, and occasional consumable replacement.
Do you need a Combo model?
Choose Vac when: carpet and pet hair are your priority, you already own a good mop, or you want the least complicated ownership routine.

Which Roomba is best under furniture?
The Plus 415, Plus 515, and Plus 575 are advertised as 46% smaller than the Plus 505 by volume and designed to reach areas with as little as 9 cm of clearance. Treat that as a design claim, not a guarantee that every low sofa or bed will work.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Roomba is best for a large home?
The Plus 515 is the leading candidate on paper because iRobot rates it for up to 295 minutes and 2,000 square feet per charge. For a large or multi-level home, however, verify recharge-and-resume behavior, multi-floor mapping, room naming, threshold performance, dock placement, and water-tank capacity.
A robot that technically has enough battery but cannot cross a transition strip or reach its dock reliably will need more owner intervention than its runtime rating suggests.

Are older Roombas still worth buying?
Sometimes. The discount must compensate for older navigation, weaker automation, uncertain availability, and potentially harder-to-find replacement parts.
- Combo j9+: appealing for obstacle avoidance and its retractable mop, especially when heavily discounted; manual mop cleaning is the main compromise.
- j7/j7+: still interesting for hazard recognition and mature app automation, but less convincing for deeply embedded carpet debris than newer premium candidates.
- s9/s9+: potentially attractive for carpet-focused buyers at a very low price, but aging hardware and availability require caution.
- i3/i3+: consider only as a cheap, straightforward vacuum; its carpet performance and feature set are behind newer models.
- Combo 10 Max: still a premium hybrid option, but compare its sale price and dock convenience directly with the 2026 Max and Plus range.
Older models may be officially listed but out of stock, or available only through authorized retailers. Check warranty coverage, replacement bags, filters, brushes, mop pads, and app support before buying.
Roomba versus Roborock and Dreame
The best Roomba is not necessarily the best robot vacuum overall. RTINGS says Roborock and Dreame generally offer stronger value, more LiDAR-equipped models, and more extensive mopping features than many current Roombas.
| Choose Roomba when… | Consider Roborock or Dreame when… |
|---|---|
| You prefer iRobot’s ecosystem and established rubber-brush approach. | You want more feature-dense hardware for the money. |
| Obstacle avoidance and familiar app automation are high priorities. | You want extensive LiDAR coverage or more aggressive mopping features. |
| You find a strong sale on a model that fits your floors. | You are comparing the whole market rather than limiting the choice to Roomba. |
Use the Roborock and Dreame homepages as starting points, then compare specific models, current prices, parts availability, warranty terms, and independent test results.
Ownership costs and maintenance
AutoEmpty and AutoWash reduce chores; they do not eliminate them. Budget time and money for:
Recommended Free Tools
- Debris bags or dustbin cleaning
- Filters and anti-tangle brush inspection
- Mop-pad washing or replacement
- Clean-water filling and dirty-water disposal
- Dock-tray cleaning and odor prevention
- Approved cleaning solution, where required
- Replacement brushes, pads, bags, and filters
Do not assume a claimed 75-day or three-month interval applies to your home. Shedding pets, frequent runs, high humidity, and large floor plans shorten practical intervals. Follow the model’s current support documentation and use compatible supplies.
Before purchase, test or confirm the app workflow you actually need: room selection, schedules, no-go zones, map recovery, cleaning history, and multi-floor support. App reliability is part of the product, and Tom’s Guide reported occasional Plus 505 app glitches.
How to choose in five steps
- Map your floors. Estimate carpet, hard-floor, rugs, thresholds, and low furniture.
- Decide whether you need wet cleaning. If not, start with the Max 715 Vac or 105 Vac.
- Prioritize your household risk. Pets and clutter make obstacle recognition and anti-tangle design more important.
- Compare the dock and consumables. AutoEmpty handles dry debris; AutoWash adds pad washing, drying, and water management.
- Check the live price and support position. Compare sale price—not just MSRP—and confirm parts, warranty, and retailer availability.
Prices and availability
Announced U.S. MSRPs for the new models are $999.99 for the Max 775 Combo, $699.99 for the Max 715 Vac, $799.99 for the Plus 575 Combo, $699.99 for the Plus 515 Combo, and $599.99 for the Plus 415 Combo. These are announced MSRP figures, not guaranteed street prices.
For older and entry-level models, observed official prices have varied. The 105 Vac appeared at $249.99 on one iRobot page and $279.99 in an earlier page snapshot. The Plus 405 appeared at both $799.99 and $399.99 depending on the snapshot. Recheck the official Roomba catalog before publication or purchase, and treat all temporary discounts as time-limited.
Bottom-line buying advice
- Buy the Plus 505 Combo for the safest all-round recommendation.
- Buy the Max 715 Vac when vacuuming, carpet, and pet hair matter more than mopping.
- Consider the Max 775 Combo for its premium feature set, but wait for independent testing if performance certainty matters.
- Choose the Plus 575, 515, or 415 when compact dimensions, large-home runtime, or a lower-cost AutoWash dock solves a specific need.
- Buy the 105 Vac only when its live sale price is clearly below better-equipped alternatives.
- Buy an older j9+, s9+, or i3+ only when the discount is deep and parts and warranty support are confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Roomba Max 775 better than the Plus 505?
The Max 775 is more advanced according to iRobot’s specifications, but the supplied research does not yet provide enough independent testing to prove that it cleans better or offers better value than the Plus 505.
Is a Roomba worth buying for a carpet-only home?
Yes, but start with a vacuum-only model such as the Max 715 Vac. A Combo model adds mop hardware and maintenance that may provide little benefit in a carpet-dominated home.
Can Roomba pet-waste avoidance be trusted?
No system should be treated as failproof. Pick up pet waste, cords, toys, and clothing before running the robot, even on models advertised with AI obstacle avoidance.
Do AutoWash Roombas require maintenance?
Yes. You still need to fill clean water, empty dirty water, clean the dock tray, inspect pads and brushes, replace filters or bags, and prevent odors.
Is the Braava Jet m6 a Roomba?
No. It is a dedicated mop, not a Roomba vacuum. Consider it only when comparing a separate vacuum-and-mop setup.
The Bottom Line
For most buyers, get the Roomba Plus 505 Combo. Choose the Max 715 Vac for carpet-first vacuuming, and consider the Max 775 only if its newest features justify paying for a model whose independent testing is still limited.
