That does not make it the right choice for every refrigerator. A modular bin is better when shelf dimensions are awkward, a rolling drawer is more useful when food disappears at the back, and FreshWorks containers are the better fit when produce spoilage—not general clutter—is the main problem. The trade-off is capacity. A low caddy improves access and visibility, but it cannot hold the volume of a taller drawer. Do not choose it for a category that routinely piles above its sides.

The limitation is that several small bins can consume more usable shelf area than one appropriately sized container. Do not equate a higher piece count with more storage. Group items by a category that will actually be returned to the same place, and leave enough open shelf area for taller or irregularly shaped food.

1. Measure usable space, not nominal refrigerator capacity

- Width: the narrowest usable distance between side walls, rails, and shelf supports.
- Depth: the distance from the front edge to the rear wall, while accounting for vents and rounded corners.

USDA guidance also recommends keeping raw meat, poultry, and seafood sealed or securely wrapped so juices cannot contaminate other food.
