For most homeowners, the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro is the best overall outdoor HomeKit camera. It combines HomeKit Secure Video with higher-than-1080p video, color night vision, IP65 weather resistance, Wi‑Fi or PoE networking, encrypted local storage, and broader smart-home hub features.

The right alternative depends on the installation. Choose the Eve Outdoor Cam for the most Apple-focused, privacy-first experience and an integrated floodlight; the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera for encrypted microSD storage, a no-required-subscription design, and an optional 105 dB siren; or the Logitech Circle View for a straightforward plug-in camera with an exceptionally wide view.

Quick verdict

Camera Best for Key strengths Main limitation
Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro Best overall 2.6K video, color night vision, IP65 protection, Wi‑Fi or PoE, encrypted eMMC storage, RTSP/SMB options, and Zigbee, Thread, and Matter hub functions Some local-recording features are firmware-dependent, and native 24/7 recording is not currently supported
Eve Outdoor Cam Best for Apple privacy and floodlight integration Designed exclusively for HomeKit Secure Video, 157-degree view, infrared night vision, floodlight, two-way audio, and encrypted iCloud event storage Requires a hardwired 100–240 V AC installation with neutral and ground wires
Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera Best for local storage and deterrence Encrypted microSD storage, person/vehicle/animal detection, floodlight, no mandatory subscription, and an optional 105 dB siren 100-degree view, Wi‑Fi-only networking, and HomeKit Secure Video support should be confirmed for the exact model and region
Logitech Circle View Best simple wide-angle option 180-degree diagonal view, 1080p video, enhanced infrared night vision, weatherproof body, and direct Apple Home integration Older 1080p design with less storage and smart-home flexibility than the Aqara

These recommendations are based on published specifications and compatibility information, not hands-on testing or independent image-quality measurements. Prices, stock, firmware features, and regional model availability can change, so verify those details before purchasing.

What you need for HomeKit Secure Video

There is an important distinction between an outdoor camera that works with Apple Home and one that supports HomeKit Secure Video.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Basic Apple Home compatibility can provide live viewing and motion notifications in the Home app. HomeKit Secure Video adds encrypted event recording, activity zones, and Apple-recognized activity categories such as people, animals, vehicles, and packages. Depending on your configuration, it can also provide face-recognition notifications.

Apple processes and encrypts HomeKit Secure Video recordings through a home hub, such as an Apple TV 4K or HomePod. You also need an iCloud+ plan for recording. Apple currently specifies these camera limits:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • 50 GB iCloud+: one HomeKit Secure Video camera.
  • 200 GB iCloud+: up to five cameras.
  • 2 TB, 6 TB, or 12 TB iCloud+: an unlimited number of cameras.

HomeKit Secure Video provides up to 10 days of event history, and those camera recordings do not count against your iCloud storage quota. The important qualification is that iCloud+ is a requirement for HomeKit Secure Video recording; it is not automatically included with every HomeKit-compatible camera.

Aqara 2K Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera G100, HomeKit Secure Video, White | 2-Way Audio, Spotlight Color/IR Night Vision, AI Detection, 140° FOV, Wi-Fi 6, Supports HomeKit, Alexa, Google and IFTTT
  • 2K Clarity Day and Night: The G100 Wi-Fi Camera films in 2304×1296 (3MP) resolution with a 140°FOV and a wide-angle f/1.8 lens for superior image quality. It features two night vision modes: Spotlight Color Night Vision and IR Detection Mode. The spotlight provides illumination in dark, great for color recording outdoors at night. The G100 also includes 940 nm infrared lighting, ensuring covert illumination without alerting potential intruders. (Note: Both Spotlight and IR night vision modes must be manually enabled in the app and do not turn on automatically.)
  • Indoor/Outdoor Ready IP65 Protection: With durable, weather-resistant IP65-rated housing, the G100 surveillance camera is both an indoor camera and outdoor security camera, offering reliable home surveillance for flexible indoor or outdoor mounting. Withstands rain, dust, and rugged environments.
  • Local and Cloud AI Detection: The G100 surveillance cameras supports local motion and person detection, and the HomeGuardian Plan unlocks cloud-based recognition for pets, vehicles, packages, and faces, with AI event tagging. Integrated Events automatically can be triggered when paired with other Aqara devices (subscription required). It also supports Lens Obstruction Detection, custom audio files, and 2-way audio (Notes: Only in Aqara Home App).
  • HomeKit Support & Wide Compatibility: The Aqara G100 Camera provides full support for HomeKit Secure Video (Note:Requires an active iCloud subscription and an Apple Home hub. HomeKit limits resolution to 1080p. When connected to both Apple and Aqara Home, the G100’s resolution in Aqara Home will also be limited to 1080p, but will return to 1296p if HomeKit is disconnected.) The G100 has some of the best third-party ecosystem support on the market, it can stream to Google, Alexa compatible smart displays, and even Home Assistant via the RTSP protocol, making it easier to interact with visitors or check in on loved ones.
  • Flexible Storage Methods: Record 24/7 with a microSD (up to 512GB, not included) or NAS. Time-lapse mode compresses 24-hours of footage to 15-second clips (wired connection and microSD card required). Automatically store detected events with end-to-end encryption in the cloud with a HomeGuardian subscription, ensuring protection against data theft and guaranteeing your privacy at home.

If you are setting up a new Apple-based security system, compare the cost of iCloud+ for HomeKit Secure Video and a compatible Apple home hub alongside the camera. The hub must also be reliably connected and located in the same Apple Home setup as the camera.

1. Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro: best overall outdoor HomeKit camera

The Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro is the strongest all-round choice when you want Apple Home integration without giving up installation flexibility or broader local-smart-home options.

Why it leads

  • 2.6K-class resolution: 2688 × 1520 video gives it more detail than the 1080p alternatives in this guide.
  • Color night vision: useful when identifying clothing, vehicles, or other details at night is more important than simply detecting movement.
  • IP65 protection: a stronger published weather-resistance rating than the Eve Outdoor Cam’s IP55 rating.
  • Two network choices: the camera is sold in Wi‑Fi and PoE versions. Wi‑Fi is easier where cabling is difficult; PoE is attractive for a new build, renovation, or other installation where Ethernet can be run to the camera.
  • Local storage and integration: Aqara lists 8 GB of encrypted eMMC storage, RTSP and SMB/NAS-related options, and support for Zigbee, Thread, and Matter controller functionality.
  • Smart-home hub features: visual and audio AI, two-way audio, and a built-in 100 dB speaker extend beyond the basic camera role.

The camera has a published 133-degree diagonal field of view and an operating range of approximately −30°C to 50°C. Those figures make it particularly appealing for exposed installations and for homeowners who want one device to participate in a larger smart-home system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are comparing retail listings, look for the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro model designation and confirm whether the listing is for the Wi‑Fi or PoE version. They are separate variants, and the choice affects both the installation plan and the network hardware you need.

Important Aqara limitations

Do not interpret every Aqara feature as an Apple Home feature. Zigbee, Thread, Matter-controller functions, some AI tools, local storage options, RTSP, and the 100 dB speaker belong to Aqara’s own ecosystem or firmware implementation. HomeKit Secure Video has its own Apple-controlled recording and detection behavior.

Aqara’s current product information also says that native 24/7 recording is not currently supported on the G5 Pro. Its information about NAS functionality is firmware-dependent and describes some NAS capability as planned for a future firmware update. Treat continuous recording, RTSP behavior, and SMB/NAS support as features to verify for the exact firmware and regional version rather than as guaranteed replacements for HomeKit Secure Video.

Choose the G5 Pro if: you want the broadest feature set, color night vision, PoE, an exposed-location weather rating, or a camera that can also act as part of a wider smart-home platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Eve Outdoor Cam: best for Apple privacy and floodlight integration

The Eve Outdoor Cam is the best fit for an Apple household that wants a camera built specifically around HomeKit Secure Video rather than a camera platform that happens to support Apple Home.

Eve specifies 1080p H.264 video at 24 frames per second, a 157-degree field of view, infrared night vision, a floodlight with a temporary light-boost mode, a dedicated infrared motion sensor, two-way audio, IP55 weather resistance, and three-axis physical adjustment.

Its privacy model is straightforward: the camera was designed exclusively for Apple HomeKit Secure Video, recordings are encrypted and stored in iCloud when your recording criteria are met, and the Apple home hub performs local analysis for people, pets, vehicles, and packages. You need an Apple TV or HomePod home hub and at least the 50 GB iCloud+ plan for HomeKit Secure Video.

The installation requirement matters

Eve is not a plug-in camera. It requires 100–240 V AC power, a neutral wire, and a ground wire. That makes it a natural replacement for an existing outdoor light fitting when the electrical box and wiring are suitable, but a poor choice for a rental, an unpowered wall, or a location where adding a circuit would be disproportionate.

The Aqara Camera G100 requires a power adapter with DC 5V/1A output which is not included in the box. Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.

Its IP55 rating is suitable for an appropriate outdoor installation, but it should not be treated as equivalent to the Aqara’s IP65 rating. Position the camera under a suitable overhang where possible, use a weather-appropriate electrical installation, and follow local electrical requirements.

Choose the Eve if: your priority is a clean Apple-only experience, encrypted iCloud event storage, and a floodlight at a location that already has suitable mains wiring.

3. Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera: best for local storage and deterrence

The Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera is compelling for homeowners who prefer local encrypted storage and want the camera’s light—or, in one version, a siren—to act as a visible deterrent.

Netatmo describes the camera as a Full HD 1080p Wi‑Fi model with:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Night vision up to 15 metres.
  • A 100-degree field of view.
  • Motion detection with person, vehicle, and animal classification.
  • Customizable alerts.
  • Encrypted microSD storage.
  • Optional personal-cloud backups.
  • A bright outdoor light designed to help deter intruders.
  • No mandatory subscription for the core camera functionality.

The Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren adds an integrated 105 dB outdoor siren. The siren model shares the principal camera, light, detection, installation, and weather-resistance characteristics of the standard version.

HomeKit compatibility needs a model check

Netatmo has announced HomeKit Secure Video support for its Smart Outdoor Cameras, and its current product information describes the family as compatible with Apple Home. However, the product family includes older and newer variants, and Netatmo documentation distinguishes original hardware from newer product documentation. Before buying, confirm the exact SKU, regional listing, and the specific level of HomeKit Secure Video support rather than assuming that every camera sold under the family name behaves identically.

Power and network constraints

The Netatmo is mains-powered and Wi‑Fi-only. Netatmo’s support information specifies a 100–240 V supply and no Ethernet or PoE port. It can replace an existing outdoor light or be installed at another location with suitable power, but it is not the right option if you are planning a wired Ethernet camera system.

The 100-degree view is narrower than the Eve’s 157 degrees and Logitech’s 180 degrees. That can be an advantage when you want a more focused view of a door or gate, but it may require more careful placement—or more cameras—to cover a broad driveway.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Netatmo if: local microSD storage, a no-required-subscription design, a deterrent light, and an optional siren matter more to you than PoE or an especially wide viewing angle.

4. Logitech Circle View: best simple wide-angle HomeKit camera

The Logitech Circle View remains a practical choice for someone who wants a conventional outdoor camera with direct Apple Home and HomeKit Secure Video integration, without adding Aqara or Netatmo ecosystem hardware.

Logitech specifies:

  • 1080p video.
  • A 180-degree diagonal field of view.
  • Wide dynamic range.
  • Enhanced infrared night vision up to 15 feet.
  • A weatherproof body.
  • Wall mounting or shelf placement.

The very wide view is its defining advantage. It can reduce blind spots at a porch, side passage, or short driveway, although a wide image also spreads available detail across a larger scene. If identifying a face or license plate at distance is the priority, a narrower, higher-resolution camera may be a better fit.

Circle View is an older 1080p design than the Aqara G5 Pro. It does not offer the Aqara’s 1520p resolution, color night vision, PoE option, encrypted eMMC storage, RTSP/NAS flexibility, or Zigbee, Thread, and Matter hub functions. Check current regional stock before planning around it.

Choose the Logitech if: you want a relatively simple plug-in camera, a very broad field of view, and direct HomeKit integration without adopting another smart-home platform.

Which camera is best for your property?

For a new build or major renovation: Aqara G5 Pro PoE

If walls, soffits, or external finishes are already open, plan the camera network before closing them. Running suitable Ethernet to the intended mounting points can make a PoE camera installation cleaner and more reliable than depending on Wi‑Fi at the edge of the property. The Aqara G5 Pro is the option in this comparison with a published PoE variant.

Allow a service loop and a sensible route into a protected junction or enclosure, and confirm the precise PoE requirements before the cable is installed. Do not buy the Wi‑Fi version assuming it can later be converted to PoE.

For replacing an outdoor light: Eve or Netatmo

Eve and Netatmo are the most natural candidates where a powered outdoor light already exists. Eve explicitly requires neutral and ground wires and 100–240 V AC. Netatmo also uses a 100–240 V mains supply and can replace an existing outdoor light or be mounted at another powered location.

Have fixed outdoor electrical work assessed and completed in accordance with local requirements. If you need help with the wiring, an outdoor camera installation service may be more appropriate than trying to adapt an unsuitable light fitting.

For a wide porch or short driveway: Logitech Circle View

Its 180-degree diagonal field of view is the widest published figure in this comparison. That can be useful when the camera must cover a broad area from one mounting point, especially where adding a second camera is difficult.

For a focused entryway and local storage: Netatmo

Netatmo’s 100-degree view is better suited to a deliberately aimed entrance, gate, or parking position than to covering an entire frontage. Its encrypted microSD storage and optional siren make it attractive when you want local retention and a physical deterrent alongside Apple integration.

For harsh temperatures or a wired network: Aqara

The G5 Pro has the strongest published weather rating in this group at IP65 and a specified operating range of −30°C to 50°C. Its PoE version also avoids relying on a marginal outdoor Wi‑Fi signal. Those advantages matter more than a small resolution difference when the camera is mounted far from the router or exposed to difficult conditions.

Outdoor HomeKit camera installation checklist

  1. Confirm the Apple requirements first. Check that the exact camera supports HomeKit Secure Video—not just live viewing—and budget for a compatible Apple home hub and iCloud+ if you need recordings.
  2. Choose the power architecture. Eve and Netatmo require mains power. Aqara is available as Wi‑Fi or PoE. Logitech is a plug-in design. Do not finalize the mounting position until power and cable routes are confirmed.
  3. Check connectivity at the actual mounting point. A strong signal beside the router does not guarantee a reliable signal under the eaves, behind masonry, or at the end of a driveway. PoE can be preferable where Ethernet can be installed.
  4. Compare weather ratings honestly. Aqara specifies IP65; Eve specifies IP55. Netatmo and Logitech are described as outdoor or weatherproof products, but follow the manufacturer’s mounting guidance and avoid exposing any power connection unnecessarily.
  5. Prioritize the view over the headline resolution. For a driveway, consider field of view, camera height, distance to the subject, glare, and night lighting. More pixels cannot compensate for a poorly aimed camera or an obstructed lens.
  6. Control glare and backlighting. Avoid pointing directly toward a low sun, bright security light, or reflective wall. A floodlight can improve deterrence and visibility but may also create glare if it illuminates the lens or a nearby surface.
  7. Mount for useful identification. A camera mounted too high may provide a broad overview but a poor angle for recognizing a person. A lower position can improve detail while increasing tampering risk, so balance visibility, physical protection, and the property layout.
  8. Protect the electrical work. Use suitable outdoor-rated hardware and weather protection, keep cable entries oriented to limit water ingress, and use a qualified professional where fixed mains wiring or new circuits are involved.
  9. Set activity zones carefully. Exclude public walkways, neighboring property, trees, and areas that generate constant movement where appropriate. Apple’s activity zones and detection categories are useful only when they match the view you actually need.
  10. Test notifications at night. Verify that the camera can see the approach, that night vision or the floodlight behaves as expected, and that notifications arrive reliably before treating the installation as complete.

HomeKit Secure Video is event recording, not a guaranteed 24/7 system

HomeKit Secure Video is built around encrypted event recordings and a rolling activity history. Do not promise yourself continuous footage simply because a camera is listed as HomeKit Secure Video compatible. Apple’s published feature model provides up to 10 days of event history, while Aqara specifically says the G5 Pro does not currently support native 24/7 recording.

This distinction matters on a construction or renovation project. If you need a permanent timeline of every moment—for example, to review deliveries or monitor a worksite continuously—check the camera’s own recording modes, local-storage behavior, NAS support, and firmware limitations separately. Vendor-app recording and RTSP/NAS options are not the same thing as native HomeKit Secure Video recording.

How the four cameras compare in practice

Image detail and coverage

Aqara has the highest published resolution at 2688 × 1520, while Eve, Netatmo, and Logitech are 1080p products. Logitech has the widest published diagonal view at 180 degrees, followed by Eve at 157 degrees, Aqara at 133 degrees, and Netatmo at 100 degrees.

Those numbers do not identify a universal winner. A wide view is useful for coverage; higher resolution can preserve more detail in a defined area; and a focused camera may produce a more useful composition at a gate or front door. Match the camera to the distance and angle rather than selecting by resolution alone.

Night performance

Aqara’s color night vision is the standout specification for preserving color information in low light. Eve and Logitech specify infrared night vision, while Netatmo specifies night vision up to 15 metres. Floodlights on Eve and Netatmo can provide visible illumination and deterrence, but their usefulness depends on placement, ambient light, and whether the light creates glare.

Storage and privacy

Eve is the most tightly Apple-centered option: its recordings are encrypted and stored in iCloud when the configured criteria are met. Aqara offers encrypted eMMC storage and additional local-network options, but those capabilities are firmware- and ecosystem-dependent. Netatmo offers encrypted microSD storage and optional personal-cloud backups without requiring a subscription for core operation. Logitech’s main appeal is simple Apple integration rather than a broad local-storage architecture.

Smart-home expansion

Aqara is the only camera here positioned as a broader hub with Zigbee, Thread, and Matter-controller functionality. That is useful if the camera is part of a wider automation plan, but it also adds ecosystem complexity. Eve and Logitech are cleaner choices when Apple Home is the center of the installation and additional vendor protocols are not wanted.

Final buying decision

Buy the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro for the best combination of video capability, outdoor protection, local-storage flexibility, and installation choice. Select the PoE version when you can run Ethernet; select Wi‑Fi when a wired route is impractical.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Eve Outdoor Cam when privacy, Apple-only operation, and a floodlight matter most and you have suitable mains wiring. Choose the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera when encrypted microSD storage, a no-required-subscription design, and deterrence are more important than a wide view or PoE. Choose the Logitech Circle View when you want the simplest wide-angle Apple Home camera and can accept its older 1080p platform.

Whichever model you select, confirm the exact regional SKU, HomeKit Secure Video support, power requirements, weather guidance, current firmware capabilities, and availability before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do outdoor HomeKit cameras need iCloud+?

You can use basic Apple Home features such as live viewing and motion notifications without treating iCloud+ as included camera storage. HomeKit Secure Video event recording requires iCloud+ and a compatible Apple home hub. Apple currently supports one camera on the 50 GB plan, up to five on the 200 GB plan, and unlimited cameras on the 2 TB, 6 TB, and 12 TB plans.

Which outdoor HomeKit camera supports PoE?

The Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro is available in separate Wi‑Fi and PoE versions. Choose the correct version before running cable or planning the mounting hardware; the Wi‑Fi model should not be assumed to support PoE later.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does HomeKit Secure Video provide continuous recording?

Do not assume it does. Apple’s published HomeKit Secure Video model is based on event recordings and up to 10 days of activity history. Aqara also states that native 24/7 recording is not currently supported on the G5 Pro.

Is the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera compatible with HomeKit Secure Video?

Netatmo describes the Smart Outdoor Camera family as compatible with Apple Home and has announced HomeKit Secure Video support. Because the family contains older and newer variants and regional listings can differ, verify the exact model number and the specific HomeKit Secure Video behavior before buying.

Which camera is best for replacing an outdoor light?

The Eve Outdoor Cam and Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera are the most natural choices because both are mains-powered and can be installed at a suitable powered light location. Eve specifically requires 100–240 V AC, neutral, and ground wires. Fixed outdoor electrical work should be completed in accordance with local requirements.

The Bottom Line

Best overall: Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro. Best Apple privacy and floodlight option: Eve Outdoor Cam. Best local-storage and deterrence option: Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera. Best simple wide-angle option: Logitech Circle View. For a new build or renovation, decide on PoE, mains power, Wi‑Fi coverage, and cable routes before the exterior finishes are complete.
